    I was a cable tech. in the army, and what we use to do was put axle grease on a rag and then run the cable through the rag as you rewind. And you will find out that the cable will last alot longer.

    I always carried 4' long hardwood 4x4. You tied it to the frame in front of the front spring hangers with a small chain or rope or if your j-hook chains were long enough you used them. It beats having to put a front bumper on. I towed for a salvage yard with a wrecker and a large Louisville rollback for 24 years. Watching your story brings back memories. Paul

    I grew up around a slightly newer version of this, 3/4 ton . I don't think the fenders were tiped to a point at the headlight im not sure now. The wheel wells were In the body. It had a strange v6 reliable as can be and had its own sound.

      +StinkySQL Sixpence Well...that tow truck has a new home now and the owner bought a carburetor from me to rebuild, so hopefully he has it all sorted out now. I agree though, those old mechanical fuel pumps had issues. Thank you, -Rick

    my good friend is building a 1955 chevy truck and he needs a pair of decent front fenders. do you have any for sale that you can ship via grayhound? they can be a little rusty and while any old color will a green would be preferable. as long as there not way overpriced money isnt an issue.

    The tow bar doesn't go under the bumper. That's a good way to create slack and have you J hooks fall out if that's what you're using. Plus you run your chains to the hooks in the top of the sling before you lift it. The chains are supposed to hold the weight of the truck, not the rubber.

    aren't the wheel dollies also used for vehicles with 4x4 if you cant put the transfer case in neutral?

    • @ClassicTruckRescue
      @ClassicTruckRescue  8 років тому +3

      Yes, but all Napco 4x4 trucks can be put in neutral....Keep in mind that a rare, automatic (Hydramatic for GMC and Powerglide for Chevy) wouldn't have neutral in 2-wheel drive versions, but the addition of the Napco 4x4 package would enable neutral via the transfer case. Hope that makes sense. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

    So just curious so the second clutch to run the winch takes place of a PTO now a days and it's coming from the transmission? Manuel truck and needs a clutch for the winch just confused me srry

    • @ClassicTruckRescue
      @ClassicTruckRescue  7 років тому

      No, just one clutch. Transmission in neutral, then engage PTO....now the PTO acts like its own gear in the transmission. Then when you engage the clutch, it turns the PTO, just as it would normally turn whichever gear the transmission would be in if it weren't in neutral. Hope that makes sense. -Rick

    • @xmo552
      @xmo552 4 роки тому

      He showed you. He did a proper hookup at 17:25. There's a chain with a large J-hook. You hook it to the axle/suspension/frame. At the bottom of the sling there's a small chain-hook welded on, hook the chain there and loop it around. At the top of the sling there's another chain-hook, hang the excess chain there. Done.

My Current Tow-Truck, Homer (and the one I intend to keep) can be seen in some of my more recent videos. None Of my tow-trucks are ever 'For Hire', but they do go rescue other old trucks and sometimes lend a hand without seeking payment. Yes, we are in the Mulino area. Thanks Fer Watchin' -Rick
