You help me learn and understand Wing Chun so well Master Chan! love all your Wing Chun vids! You are tremendously skilled! You and Master Wong are my favorite practitioners of Wing Chun to watch on youtube at the moment haha thank you so much for the informative and great videos!
Hi I'm impressed by your own knowledge, I fit in 11 years of tkd no sport, from learning to take it, kyokushin, a bit too. Before mostly I did practice Wing Chun - filled of Baji, Tang Lang which I didn't knew at all at 15yo, so I called wing chun so much that in those 11 years, I keep on I will, fits Tkd kicks in wing chun's structure and way of compressing and straight-circlin line. Economic movements are easier than I excepted. Thanks to you I knew Hakka Fist and when I'm right filled, morning qi gong, power, or while I'm learning Chen Tai ji Yang, adding, as you said with a lot swords, stick and bamboo ring, the releasing of the energy shocked me, can't imagine how can be cultivating it :). Thanks very much for those great things you share. Lorenzo, Italia ☯🔆🐉🐯
@Aidan Fisher Wing chun is simply the principles centerline, keeping your elbows in, and...that's it probably. A lot of the other principles are also found in many other martial arts. Body connectivity, circles, using body mechanics to use less effort, fluid motions, and so on. You can apply these to all martial activities, no?
@Aidan Fisher I saw a video of Cheung when getting attacked by Boztepe. Even on the ground, Cheung kept his Yin pretty well and Boztepe could not get a punch through, even though he was kneeling on top of him. Better to resolve issues with a minimum amount of violence and instead help each other out. That is the idea behind martial art, right? To better our health or position or whatever. Helping each other accomplishes that way better than violence.
That was a very good video ... Invisible kicks are used more that you think in MMA if you look for them ... I just know them from Kung fu especially wing Chun. That was a GREAT video and you should be proud I hope that we could see it in combat use though or anything similar because those are sensitivity drills. Sensitivity drills especially in wimg Chun are not combat ...
I'll readily admit I have no real expertise in any martial art (maybe I should stop right there ...), but , based on my experience in muay thai, a "structurally slow", "telegraphed" kick with enough training to commit the movements to muscle memory can be fast enough to hit the average person before they can move (whether to block or retreat). Before muay thai I tryed to kick like Bruce Lee or Bill Wallace, nearest weapon to the nearest target, that kind of thing, but after muay thai I realized that even big movements off the rear leg, with an initial step to one side can become both powerful & fast. That being said, I do appreciate Adam's reasoning & explanations, there are definitely different techniques & approaches that can be effective in their own ways. Speaking of leg techniques in Wing Chun, Adam, how common or uncommon is the practice of chi gerk in Wing Chun? Am I correct in thinking most Wing Chun schools don't practice it at all?
Listening to the instructor made me realize even more just how fast Bruce Lee must have truly been, because the kicks that the master showed that telegraphed were the kicks Bruce Lee used, but they weren't telegraphed, which means that he had either perfect timing or he was extremely, extremely fast.
Most people (like me) like POWER. So they practice Muay Thai or JKD and they expect to stand strong and invincible in a fight and deliver crushing blows. What they have left out is what boxers have known and Wing Chun knows is that if you want to hit your opponent hard then you have to follow your jab to get close to him. As you showed with the kicks that weren't telegraphed, they distract an opponent for a second but that is long enough for you to follow up with the power shots. Even Conor McGregor said, "Precision beats power and timing beats speed." When Conor was at his best, he was deadly and beat the toughest guys in MMA. Always practice your combinations.
Weight on the standing foot is for controlling distance, weight on the kicking foot is for closing distance. A single strike can be multi functional, there is no correct weight distribution - just form fulfilling function.
All arts work when they are performed at the right place and right time just as all arts have their weaknesses. That's why practicing different arts is important. There is no one superior art that is better than all other arts plain and simple.
It's not just the leg lifting... The kick is a deem gerk and even though there is no chamber, the entire leg is engaged including the quadriceps which are the main source of power leading up and out knee/toes at 45 degrees and out to the heal with a relaxed snap ball of foot pulled back.
Really love these videos. It would be amazing to see an exhibition match of wing chun vs. Kick boxing. I think it would be great to promote both sports being as how they are both very effective defensive and offensive.
The key to power is inner energy, nothing magical, but just doing things differently. We seek the best ways to kick and punch. Like you always say, it's different for different people. Long arms, short arms, muscular build, skinny, etc etc. There is energy inside of us that can be used by doing things differently. Qi gong is becoming so popular. Why? Another trend? Or is there really inner power that can be used by doing things differently than we are used to. Every martial art has its own stuff. Bruce Lee had the right idea. If he was still alive he would be talking about qi gong among other things. You make fantastic videos because they are not full of bull. You get to the point. Isn't that what you want in a martial arts video?
Where is the balance? Cause when you don't move shoulders and body to hide kick, the power will be low. And when you do move, you get power, but the enemy will detect the beginning of strike. Two different ways, which of them is more effective?
Think of the kicks that aren't telegraphed by shoulder movement like a jab in boxing. It distracts your opponent and moves him out of position. Or, more accurately, it moves him INTO position for you to follow up with the power shots.
A weighted kick is only one of wc kicks application I don't know whether Adam is just say'n that cause it's a beginners class or he doesn't know d other types??
..did adam chan even once say he was teaching his students skills to be used in 5 minute rounds,in a locked cage with lots of space, against a trained opponent, with no outside interference, and no threat of weapons?or would these kicks and blocks be useful in a crowded space, like a bar, with someone rushing at me,trying to take my head off with a bottle or something else?c'mon,guys..we all know nobody stands a chance against an mma fighter..but if i ever came up against a mugger or a burglar, what are the chances that they would also be a ufc fighter?
Very true. Never hold back against a person on the street who knows mma, because as they say, they are deadly. You should fight as if your life depended on it, meaning you should not hesitate to use weapons. Especially, if they are the aggressor. Sadly this is the world that has been created by mma now. You don’t know who knows mma on the street now. I personally study Ameridote and the other MMA (Mexican Martial Arts) but I’m just a white belt / beginner.

Test the art by yourself if felt unsatisfied with the result, drop it. Thank You. 🙏
You do realize most people don’t even have the work ethic or dedication to complete a marathon for fun or even attempt to run on a regular basis… Most people won’t commit to a martial art even if you could magically make an unbeatable martial art and give them free lessons…
MMA is deadly. And nowadays you don’t know who knows MMA on the street. If you encounter an MMA fighter on the street who is the aggressor, make sure to not hold back. Use weapons and whatever it takes to get back home alive. If you hold back on the use of force you’re sadly mistaken, as this person comments, they do not hold back either. This is the sad but real reality really (not fake) real reality that MMA has created and proven time and time again which we face out there today now boys.

if you look at professionals and see them load up and kick the opponent. you see they get them if the timing is good and they put strike before the kick. the strike is cover to hit the opponent full power. so watching this video and you talk about you wouldnt get them is not real talk. And i know you know cuz i see you do have real skill. I dont believe in preaching and teaching non telegraphic strikes cuz if you put it in a combo the second punch is mostly non telegraphic. I believe in good form, in mobility instead of stifness. Remember Bruce talking about it in Game of Death comparing himself and the opponent to tree and its stiffness. I do believe there is a time for wing chun in a fight but always done in good form, mobility and good timing.
