Thanks for the review - this pen was on my radar but fell off because of price; as others have said, this should have a gold nib, not a "gold overlay" - I paid almost as much for my Homo Sapiens Midi, and that had a Dreamtouch Nib. They can call it "premium" all they want, but at the end of the day, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. More importantly, the review style was really well done, has your signature flair to it - there's a few rough edits in the beginning (Marble blue!) and the jump cuts are a little jarring, but those can be chalked up to a first time learning experience. The only other suggestion would've been to take a second and address if the pen is compatible with the "MyPen" system when discussing the Finial - but that's something Visconti specific.
It is great to see Brian back reviewing pens! Despite being a retailer, his reviews are some of the most concise, critical, and less opiniated reviews out there.
I think the format of this video is great. You cover as much as you can including some things people might see as drawbacks. I was actually thinking about getting one of these but for the price it’s hard to justify the price when the Pineider is just slightly more with it’s gold nib. Also you can still find the Opera out there NOS for less with the 23k dreamtouch nib. I think if VIsconti brought back the 14k nibs they used to do and put it on this pen it would be a great seller for the brand.
Brian thank you. Really liked the format of this video, seeing the pen in your hand does give an idea of size of the pen. Loved the closeups of the various models. Keep it up! Thanks Andi for doing such a great job.
I liked the format. You were able to give a lot of information about every aspect of the pen in a rather short amount of time. I am still rather new to the fountain pen world and have stuck to 'starter' pens so far so I am looking forward to more of these videos so I can learn more!
I really like the new 2 cam format, and I’ve really missed the pen reviews! Other than a few jarring volume changes between shot angles, I think this is a great first attempt! Good work Andi, and thanks Rachel for twisting Brian’s arm into giving Broads some love.
I hope it’s practical for you guys to keep doing this style of video every once in a while. Lots of good info for the shoppers. Btw, all of the pens were beautiful, but that blue one was wow!
Very nice new video style, and the overhead is great. An overall awesome first try. Love that Visconti Blue ink, and the all black pen makes me think of solid onyx, and I'd love to have one. But, I can't see that high a price difference over my Rembrandt fine and medium pens which are very good writers. They need to forget the gold onlay and lower the price no higher than $250 in my opinion. Anyway, thanks for the review.
Great video format! I picked up the Vertigo in the Blue Marble and it really is a lovely blue pearlescent swirl. Inked it with Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-Gao and have enjoyed the writing experience. I would have preferred a price reduction w/ steel nib or went straight to a 14k gold nib at the current price point.
Beautiful closeup video. Nice job guys. Good length of video to get a really good idea of what the pen's story and features are. Brian's conclusion was slightly choppy from editing.
Brian very nice looking pens indeed i would opt for the Tiger version personally. But the piece attached to the nib looks like it could easily come off and the price is a bit on the steep side considering it has a steel nb . Also great camera work Andi. Thank you and all at Goulet pens for another excellent review.
Just wanted to give my impressions of the new format. I like how the video is unfolding in a more organized fashion than the "typical" videos. With that being said, especially in the transitions between subsections, I find the cuts harsh and jarring. Likely this is die to the candid natire of the other videos and the stream-of-consciousness quality to which we have all become accustomed. If the video could flow smoothly and not feel like mis-matched takes sewn together you would really be onto something!
Nathan Bimrose defintaely. I love all Goulet videos but the transitions were what struck me the most. They were very harsh and it seemed like Brian didn’t get into his flow due to the sheer number of transitions there were. I like a more conversational style as it’s the small hiccups in a video which add to the viewers experience. They’ve tried to make it a little too clean and organised for me. Keep it loose, and let what happens happen
I really like the design of this pen and the fact that the price is more than accessible than the Opera Master, but I wonder if they plan on coming up with more colors, I'm not too crazy about the ones available right now.
Very thorough review. Thanks! These are beautiful pens. In the past there have been quality control issues with Visconti nibs. Brian made a video about it. Has this been resolved?
It's not exactly an on/off switch, but the quality control & feedback loop on it is much improved. We would obviously stand behind any Visconti pen bought through us and make it right if not. - Colin
I love Visconti pens and own many. I have not liked magnetic caps however as I think the pen dries out quickly. Love the closure on the Homo sapiens. Wish this had that or was threaded. Like the new review method.
excellent format. close ups integrated perfectly. The text overlays are just the right amount of info - although I personally find the size, typeface and placement a little intrusive. write on!
The Wine pen is beautiful, but the price is beyond what I can budget for. The second view with this video looked good- no 'vertigo' here! (haha) Keep up the technique with the second camera. Overhead is effective.
I was REALLY considering this pen, expecting it to be in the $150 ballpark . . . but then I saw the price and woooooooahhhh nonono, that fell off my wishlist REAL fast. I don't think any amount of craftsmanship and materials can justify that kind of price. Why does Visconti think that this pen is worth that much? Is it limited edition? Is the pen manufactured by hand from start to finish? I realize that MSRP is set by the manufacturer/brand and not by your company personally but this feels EXTREMELY expensive for what we are (or are not) getting.
Hey Brian. I have seen this pen on your website with the 14k gold overlay nib but I have also seen pics of this on the internet and some european retailer's websites with a plain steel nib without the overlay. Does this pen come with 2 nib models? I would like to get it without the overlay if possible.
European stock may be different, I'm not sure. I know Visconti is doing a roll out of new nibs across pen models. That said, all of our stock has the gold overlay. - Colin
If you need to have 2 pens inked up at once, I'd go the Eco route. But if you're just writing with one pen but want multiple nib options, the Vac700R is great. - Colin
This was a good review. I don't think I will be getting the pen, though. I looked at the ones on the web site and they are all very pretty pens. Since I don't think in metrics, how would the size of this pen compare with that of pens like LAMY Al-Star, TWSBI Eco, and Pilot Metropolitan?
It's smaller than them when unposted, slightly larger than the Metropolitan when posted. You can compare the Vertigo to other pens you may be familiar with using our Pen Plaza tool: www.gouletpens.com/pages/pen-plaza - Colin
I'm laughing way too hard at the 'marble blue' audio insert! 😂😂😂 It reminds me so much of those 'personalized' audio messages where you have to speak your own name 😂😂😂 Insert name here
I don't know why but I hate the magnetic mechanism so much, I hope they won't remove the hook safe mechanism on opera master. It seems like they are on the transition from hook safe to magnetic cap. That's pretty much bothered me.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE tick our LEADER off? Always, Just a happy dude! Does he EVER EVER EVER have, a bad day...Just picking on ya...LOL. Love your videos...I must think this through...Maybe, a hot cheque...Return a .75 cent item...something...to conquor this HAPPY GUY!! LOL. Great Vid, Mr. Leader! Your reviews increase our knowledge of fountain pens; you cover a lot of themes and share your encyclopedic knowledge with us. They're wonderful!

I really like that you took a minute to discuss the nib nook images because that helps me figure out which nib suites me best.

Thanks so much Brian. I’ve missed your full pen reviews. Thanks for bringing them back. Hope to see more going forward.
Brian thank you. Really liked the format of this video, seeing the pen in your hand does give an idea of size of the pen. Loved the closeups of the various models. Keep it up! Thanks Andi for doing such a great job.
Oh! How I’ve missed these videos!!!!! So happy!! So happy!!
Thank you, Brian. Very nice to see a new review. Snazzy Andiwork on this, so thank you, Andi.

Woohooo! I loved videos like this in the past. That nib looks pretty crazy!

Thank you for sharing an interesting and informative video. I very much enjoyed the dual cameras as opposed to moving one camera around.
Absolutely gorgeous pen !
That was fascinating and entertaining as always, loved the format, packed with information. The next best thing to actually owning the pen. 😊
I hope it’s practical for you guys to keep doing this style of video every once in a while. Lots of good info for the shoppers. Btw, all of the pens were beautiful, but that blue one was wow!
Since I'm in the wine industry, I really love the wine colored pen! I also love the Visconti Sepia ink!
Very interesting and informative review. Many thanks!
Very nice new video style, and the overhead is great. An overall awesome first try.

Yeah, between this or a Van Gogh & Rembrandt, I know what I would pick. - Colin

BlueMel
I don't have the pen, but I really like using Pilot's Iroshizuku Asa-Gao.
Yes, spot on! Great format, thanx.

Gorgeous pen😍

Yeah, the hook-safe lock is one of my favorite capping mechanisms. Would love to see it on some of their lower cost models. - Colin
8:20 into the video, alright you convinced me, I'll throw it on my wish list, ha ha.
Ha ha, that's a pretty good wishlist. My wishlist only adds up to around 1800. You'll have quite the handsome collection when you accomplish it.

What about that nib unit? Any word on if you'll get just them in and a price
Haven't heard that they'd be available separately as a nib unit. If this nib ends up on more pens, I could see it becoming available. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company well I know they're in those newer divinas too.. hopefully I'll be able to score one for my Rembrandt eventually🙂
Can the Visconti My Pen System be used with this pen?
Yes, I believe the MyPen system is compatible! - Colin
Nice! Thank you Colin.

Do u think it's better to get a fine nib vac 700r with broad nib unit or 2 twsbi ECOs

those pens look amazing.
