    Nothing can top the burgundy Parker 51 pen my (English) grandma bought for my grandad when he was 21. He died at 91, and he used this pen every day for 70 years, always with the original black Quink ink. I asked him if I could have the pen: I've had so many letters from him, that pen is so much a memento of him. He said I could: but when he died, no one could find it. And then, fortunately, Grandma found it in the back of his desk drawer. Wonderful pen: easy flow, easy fill, nice thick line but not too much: perfect for my hand, which was Grandad's hand for all those years.

    I have found your vlogs to be exceptionally helpful. Sadly I lost my last fountain pen after only forty years. The pen world has developed so much in that time that I have had to start as a beginner. Thanks for your help. Also I am so pleased that your buisiness is doing so very well. You are authentic and that is probably the making of it all. Be well.

    Excellent video and excellent list of pens. For some of them (Visconti, Namiki Maki-e), the title of the video should have been "Pens that Require a Lifetime of Savings to Purchase." I hope to start my foray into the gold nib category over the next 12 months or so with the Lamy 2000 or maybe a gold-nib Pilot pen.

    I love all your videos. Thanks so much for posting them. In India, people of my generation (I'm 52 now :-) ) grew up with eyedropper-filled fountain pens, but I find it sad that almost no one uses these lovely things any more. We seem to have only roller balls and ball points, whose writing has no character at all and none of the joy of writing with a fine instrument that you treasure, and take care of. Again, thanks for the videos!

    • @kencur9690
      @kencur9690 2 роки тому +1

      @@SharkLizard you won’t impress with a Homo sapiens Visconti: it’s very understated. It’s only impressive if you disclose the material, or if you study it. It’s not a “wow” pen though, especially given its matte body. It’s most definitely not a ceo type of pen: even a relatively conservative black and gold MB 149 has more of a wow factor. Actually, I find the HS more of a writer’s pen. Innovative, yet somehow paradoxically traditional.

      Some of the most important target groups for Mont Blanc are Arabian oil sheiks and newly-rich Russian tycoons. No kidding. When you go to the Mont Blanc boutique in Hamburg they have the Russian Vogue lying out in their waiting area. For those customers 5,200$ is a joke.

      Russia is the wild wild west of capitalism and they have a brand new generation of robber barons that grew up under communism. Its going to take them a while to implement the correct laws to regulate their economy. Im sure they have 5-10 5,000 dollar pens.. one for the private jet, one for the summer home, one for the office, one in their spare briefcase, on their desk at home... you get the idea.

      The Goulet Pen Company Catching up right now! Too bad I can't buy from your store. I'm german and...well...buying pens from an american store would be pretty pointless, because they are probably cheaper over here.
      By the way, this just came to my mind, I'm an English-German translator, so if you need someone to translate texts for easier contact with german pen companies hit me up! Most people over here can speak english pretty well, but if you're running into troubles I can probably help! I can send you my contact information via mail if you're interested, just in case something comes up.

    Thankyou. Very instructive. A little fast if you're trying to make notes (with a fountain pen!) but you can always back-up, Some fascinating pens there.

    *Something to be aware of regarding Karas Kustoms:* Got my FOUNTAIN K very recently from Goulet. Two issues with the pen itself. I'm actually familiar with Karas Kustoms. Already own one of their click ballpoint pens in aluminum. Bought a brass FOUNTAIN K since I personally find their aluminum pen to be way too light. While the brass has the sort of heft you'd expect, you can't post the cap on the other end of the pen. Technically, you can. But it's barely on there to the point it'll fall off if you do any remotely fast writing. I'm one of those individuals who loves to write with the cap posted on my pens. Also, the clip was just ever so slightly misaligned. Common issue on Parker Jotter ballpoints. Thing is, the FOUNTAIN K isn't a $7.oo pen.
    Considering the price, Karas Kustoms should have done a better job with the clip. And, hate to say it, but considering that a lot of pen enthusiasts and collectors like to write with the cap posted; I really wish that Brian had mentioned that one detail with the FOUNTAIN K in this video. For me, those two issues aren't major ones as I do own quite a few other fountain pens from various different companies; and I wanted a tough-as-a-tank fountain pen. Definitely got that with this pen. But I can see how others might be bothered by those two issues.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 років тому +1

      Brian does mention the posting issue in the Fountain K overview video which is much more detailed (ua-cam.com/video/J5JdInTd0kc/v-deo.html ), but I can still see why that might be frustrating. I'll pass along the clip misalignment issue to see if that's the case with other stock and provide feedback to KK. Appreciate the comment. - Colin

      Thank you, Colin. I appreciate that. I've watched the "Top 7 Fountain Pens to Last a Lifetime" video a handful of times, as I found it very interesting. Underneath in the "Up next" section, the full review of the FOUNTAIN K has never popped up. But I realize that's an issue with UA-cam. Didn't know Brian had done a full review of that pen line.
      As I mentioned, the clip is something that is livable, for me personally. But yes, I can see how someone wanting to get one Lifetime pen and can only afford one such pen; might be upset by that issue. Thank you for looking into that.

    I learned handwriting with a fountain pen in the fifth grade so have always preferred writing with one. I used a Mont Blanc for 40 years and am upset because it's been misplaced. I got out my grandfather's Mont Blanc from 1929, cleaned it well, added ink and love the way it writes. I wonder if those Pilot pens will be writing when they are 93 years old?

  • @randalllaue4042

    You asked about pen stories for possible expansion of topic... my grandfather had one with a “ bellows” of some soft material that would suck up the ink into the barrel. Why did they stop? Did they “wear” out? Is it worth anything nowadays? Was it a “Skin” that was used? It seems too early for plastic parts...

    My Lamy 2000 did not last too long. Leaks started to appear when I remove the cap as if it is sucking the ink out. I could not find where this is coming from. I sent it for repair in a local Lamy outlet and they said that there is a crack on the body. Cracked it when I am barely using this pen.

    I'm sure these pens are beautiful and are exactly as you described but at least at this time, I cannot afford these pens. I have several fountain pens and you can laugh if you want but my $30 (+/-) Dark Lilac Lamy Safari 2016 limited edition w/medium nib, is my favorite and best writing pen and I didn't need to ask the bank for a loan to buy it. Thanks for these top tier reviews.
