- John Swinney has won the SNP leadership contest and is set to be named as Scotland's new first minister, replacing Humza Yousaf.
Posting on X, Mr Swinney said: "I am deeply honoured to have been elected as leader of the SNP. I will give all that I have to serve my party and my country."
The nominations for the party's leadership contest closed at 12pm on Monday, with Mr Swinney confirmed as the sole nominee.

First Minister, is the title given to the person who controls Scotland, from Health to policing. A Prime Minister has literally no impact on the day to day life of a Scot. 😆
Really why?
In Italy they had the same problem. Politicians would become PM, without the citizens having a chance to vote for them and select their preferred candidate. In other words, all their PM were installed. And that kept happening up untill real elections were held and the RIGHT won with an overwhelming majority!
