By blocking the ants, the aphids will be much more susceptible to predation by birds and insects. Ants defend the aphids and scale from yellow jackets, paper wasps, and other common predators.
I followed this video last year and plastic wrap killed two of my peach trees because I left it on trees the whole summer I guess that's why they don't have follow up video on how to remove it
curious, is there not a cone that you can get that is too slippery for any bug to crawl on and put it on the trunk? that would solve the problem, no? there's also caterpillar tape that is so slippery that no insect can pass the barrier.
any ideas on how to prevent wood bores, getting ready to put the baby trees in the ground and I want to be organic but also don't want bores...thanks for any ideas you could pass my way
Jenna Mandell they dont do much pollinating. usually they are having a beneficial relationship with another pest, in which the ants protect the pest from its natural predators (which are the pollinators) and the pest provides carbohydrates to the ant from your tree.
It will actually kill your trees . I followed this video last year and it killed two of my peach trees Plastic wrap is very bad for trees specially young ones
You said you used it the entire year.by that do you mean that the amount that you put on at the start is the same one that you used the entire year?doesnt the plastic you wrapped around underneath get loose?
In the UK we have a beer called Tanglefoot from the Badger Brewery. I can assure you that after a few tasters, you do end up with your feet in a tangle lol. On the vid I have to ask, is clingfilm the best thing to use? Does this not strangle the tree while it's growing. Can you not put the gum strait on the bark and still be organic? If not, is there not an organic gum you can get?
In the UK, this is usually a common sign you have a aphid infestation. Ants don’t harm the plant, but farm the aphid.

How did you get the plastic wrap off with all the tanglefoot on it without it getting all over you?
Great tip on a product that works. Organic - the best way to go.
Thanks Bruce, I completely agree!
won't this damage the trunk of the tree being covered with the plastic wrap? Doesn't it need the air and sunlight?

I've read that ants are sometimes beneficial to fruit trees as they help pollinate.
