    If these kids wanna make a difference then why don't they form an anti bullying group at school to patrol the hallways and help bullying victims and encourage other schools to do the same?So maybe then the kids who are being bullied and humiliated wont feel so angry and depressed and wouldn't think about seeking revenge by bringing guns to school and killing people.

    • @susanbradley111
      @susanbradley111 6 років тому +1

      Why can't both be done? It's not one or the other. Gun regulation could stop an emotionally disturbed person getting an assault rifle, and anti-bullying could prevent someone from being beaten down emotionally to the point of violence. Mental health care should also be addressed, as it's hideously expensive in the United States. Various methods should be employed. They've chosen to focus on this one. You focus on anti-bullying.

      I think people have discussed that, but yes, more needs to be said. The deputies should be fired, but I don't know if legal action can be taken. They decided not to risk their lives, is that an obligation? Yes, the FBI failed horribly. Police knew the man was dangerous yet allowed him on the street.

It is way too easy to purchase guns in a lot of States and it is unfortunate that there is not a national database that keeps track of gun owners!

    id like to see these people have a discussion with people that have opposing viewpoints. these people are seen as victims so they are just being coddled right now. if you want to talk about feelings - great. if you want to talk about policy - and our constitutional rights - lets have a real discussion and debate.

    • @susanbradley111
      @susanbradley111 6 років тому +1

      They've had many. Didn't you watch the forum held with Dana Loesch (spokeswoman of the NRA), Marco Rubio, Scott Israel and so forth? The Parkland students and parents were there as were community members and a lot of difficult questions were asked and addressed. They also met with the president. You must remember, this incident is still quite fresh, having happened less than two months ago. These kids will need to go through the grief process for dead friends and teachers, and face therapy for their own trauma and fears. Already though they've shown a willingness to have discussion and debate with a variety of people, including those with different views.

    I want everyone to remember that voting in November is only a sliver of the battle. The most important time to vote is in the primary to make sure the candidates with the strongest policies and ideas for implementations for those policies who you think will best represent your communities. Find out when your state’s primary is and look into each candidate and who is funding their campaigns along with their policy proposals.

      While the gun Australia buyback program of 1996 did decrease the amount of gun deaths in Australia, it did not decrease the amount of homicides. People just found other ways to kill each other.
      The gun buyback program does appear to have decreased gun deaths, but it DID NOT decrease homicides. In fact in 2002, six years after the program started and stricter laws were put in place, more homicides were actually committed. So not only did the stricter gun laws and buyback program increase the amount of guns owned in the country, it also caused the criminals to just find different ways to kill people.

    • @PhillipLWilcher
      @PhillipLWilcher 6 років тому +4

      People have always found ways of killing each other if that is their mindset, as did Cain murder his brother Abel, but you can't pull a trigger if your'e not holding a gun. Your argument, as well meaning as it is, does not hold against the likes automatic weapons used in mass shootings that can target a crowd of innocent people with a round of bullets to kill them en masse, such as was seen in Las Vegas. Where any gun buyback program will not decrease homicides overall, it will decrease the amount of deaths caused by guns, as you have stated in your opening remark. You are on track! let's not waver from it, shall we?

      How's the inability to defend ya selves by even the means of Mace or Pepper spray, without being jailed or fined working out for ya in Australia? I'd imagine that being defenseless, deters home invaders and rapist from raping their victims often huh?

    • @PhillipLWilcher
      @PhillipLWilcher 6 років тому +3

      So, you condone the mass killings of even children by semi-automatic weapons as long as it allows you the right to bear arms, for whatever reason, according to an amendment that was drawn up prior the advent of such weaponry? Is that right? Look at what has happened in the US - or just Las Vegas alone - over the last few months, and compare that to the level of such crimes perpetrated here in Australia since 1996 and you have your answer. I wish you well, Jak!

    Lets take a look at part of the actual cause of this shooting and at least admit and agree on a couple things. One, you students are kids, your not adults. Two, your not half as mature as you're pretending to be which takes me straight to the heart of how Cruz (assuming he did this) was treated by you students individually and as a group. The day of the shooting all I heard from students were comments like "we knew he was crazy" people made fun of him, " we all avoided him". These are the responses from immature kids, which is exactly what you are. Not once did I hear a student say something like: hey, Cruz is hurting or maybe we should talk with him and see if we can help him. These are mature responses. I bet it never occurred to you students to dothe mature thing. I'm not judging, we were all the same way as kids which brings me back around to some of you kids in the last seconds of your 15 minutes of fame specifically the cute girl with the bald head and hogg. Your answers now that you will vote everyone out of office that you're going to get everyone's guns and so forth. everyone says that every generation
    most of you can't vote right now you won't be able to vote untill your 18. I guess the main point being that you guys in just a couple of years will have a totally different view of this entire event as well as your solutions to it. If you were mature right now you probably could have stopped this yourself but because you're so immature and your kids and that's why we have adults there guiding you is because you do make bad decisions we all make bad decisions at your age I think y'all should just take that in consideration and before you try and get too high on your problem solving high horses. You don't have the answers Now and you didn't have the answers during the preventive stages. I know you could easily say well the cops and law enforcement didn't have the answers either but with that I would say you were wrong. They did have the answers that may have prevented this. Why they were not used is the question us adults who were not involved in this need to figure out and you kids need to mourn your classmates and take a backseat untill we can figure out why these adults and law enforcement officials made the desicions they did. I think you will soon see that nothing that happened on that day is what it appears and the solution is not the knee jerk reaction, feel good, immature answer you have presented.+

      Laurence Smith what evidence do you have to support your claim that they play video games? In any event violent games are played around the world without similar consequences. Even if these people are in some way fake or dishonest as you would have us believe I'm afraid their arguments ARE NOT. It seems to me that you don't like what they're saying so you have chosen to make personal attacks against them instead of arguing your case. That's the sort of approach we've come to expect from the president and his supporters, ie no reasoned argument but lies and insults in an attempt to defame opponents. The best way to drain the swap is to get rid of the liar at the top of it.

      Listening to both sides would make them better and truly more tolerant, citizens, neighbors, and friends. The MSM, colleges, social media, etc., have all proven themselves to be the truly close minded hypocrites who want to shut down our First Amendment by refusing to let one side speak!

    Image every scenario you can where a shooter could be present to do damage and image what you would want in that situation. Gun shows up at the movies and starts shooting everyone, what do you do in the 30 seconds you might have? Someone shows up at a mall and starts shooting at you, what do you do? Someone shows up at a school, work-place, marathon race, concert, etc.
    Stop and imagine for a second what you would do in that situation. I can tell you what I would hope for. I would pray that there was someone there with a concealed carry ready to fire-back, I would pray that I had my conceal carry to defend myself, and if those options were both off the table I would pray that a security/police-officer just happened to be there to fire-back.
    It pisses me off to no-end when something this tragic happens and politicians use the deaths of others as a stepping stool to propagate their own agenda. The false/miss-leading media reports, the out-right ignorance of weapons and how they function. AND TO SAY THE LEAST the negligence of almost everyone and their dog when it came to someone who was reportedly unstable. There are so many more rifles out there. The AR 15 is simply a model of rifle from ArmaLite. AR doesn't stand for assault rifle and is a semi-automatic (meaning that if you pull the trigger it will shoot one single time) They're not sold as automatic rifles since that is ILLEGAL ALREADY. Most gun crime is a result of gang violence with most if not all guns involved are obtained illegally on the streets. Which America has some of, if not the highest, gang-related violence in the world. Where's the reporting on that? Wheres the passion to stop the majority of violent crimes in America?
    If someone is hell-bent on killing they're going to do it no matter what form it takes. England banned guns and has ridiculously high rates of knife involved crimes. The crime didn't go anywhere. Banning guns didn't magically result in less violence, if anything it made it harder for normal people to defend themselves. I do believe in compromise and if that means raising the age for buying an AR-15 to 21 that may be a good compromise, should we have better security for our schools? Absolutely, give trained professionals in the schools to defend it, or give willing and trained teachers conceal-carry permits so we can have someone ready to defend our kids when they most need it? Sure thats another idea. Having "safe-rooms" Designed in the infrastructure of a school so a classroom of kids can be secured during a shooting, great idea. Can't kill students if they're in a bullet proof box with independent generators, fuel, water, and food. Boom Problem solved, Make the doors more secured, replace windows and doors with bullet proof material. Raise the budgets of schools so they have resources available to make said upgrades. Just a few of the options we could look at and discuss.
    So much death and so much tragedy can happen sometimes but when that happens we need to look long and hard at the underlying ROOT of the problem. What is the core problem? Saying it was the kind of gun the shooter was using is the latter-end of the issue. The lack of security in schools is a fundamental problem in this situation. The lack of action taken by those officials who knew this individual was unstable is a big issue. The complete lack of reaction from the officer on-duty was an issue. The fact that this kid was so messed up in the first place is an issue, how/what made this kid react the way they did? What was the underlying root to this kids response to his environment? What gear did he have when he attacked the school and where did he get the funds for it and why hadn't anyone noticed it, in fact I caught wind that the UBER drive thought something was weird but nothing was done then either.
    There are way more factors that need to be questioned, analyzed, and De-constructed then what kind of gun they used to perform the shootings. We need to stop dividing ourselves, we need to stop "identifying" as one end or the other and realize that we create our on divisions by defaulting to "us" and "them". Put-off the "us" and "them" mentality and start thinking about how "WE" can make a change. We, as people of these United States, need to inform ourselves. That doesn't include turning on to CNN or FOX for an hour everyday and listening to the agenda-full media. Do your own research, question whats being said, never take anything at first glance, and don't make irrational decisions based off the emotion of a situation.
    We as a people can be capable of SO MUCH GOOD, and we do. We donate, we give time, we give to charities, we fundamentally have the ability to understand when we're doing something wrong or not. If we collectively try to live clean, wholesome lives, we will collectively prosper, we will collectively find peace. For when individuals are informed, level headed, and good, then the collective naturally becomes good as a bi-product.
    All in all I think we as a people have to open our eyes to the information we see and really take the time to do our duty as a human-race and make good decisions.

    Incredible. If you want to listen to the truncated version, the last 15 minutes are the most powerful. If your school won't give you a voice because they are too fearful or too whatever, then start a club outside of school. Spread the word on social media like Meetup. Your voices count. These kids are shining examples of clear thinking and powerful words. Ignore the trolls on this thread that are somehow thinking the topic of abortion has any reason for being discussed here. It does not. This is about common sense gun reform. That's the topic folks.

      Misha Colibra, too bad the voices of others don't count at all. Any students who dare to truly think independently and critically that have a different opinion from theirs and the liberal MSM talking points have been completely ignored and silenced! Some students even were suspended from school for refusing to participate in school walk outs! How much more unAmerican and unconstitutional can they get?
      Even some UA-cam videos and whole channels have been deleted and banned permanently. That's as bad as book banning and book burning! And Facebook is even worse!
      IF these children were truly brave and courageous, they wouldn't be afraid to debate others with facts!
