    Now eat a US army ration, known as an MRE. Depending on the one you get, it's either Meal Ready to Eat, or Meal Refusing to Exit.

    To cook the food you use a hexa burner to heat the water in a mess tin, once boiling you place the packet of food into it and once cooked you use the water to make a tea/coffee

  • @craigt3637
    @craigt3637 8 років тому

    what we used to do with either orange/lemon powder was to add some to the hot chocolate try it. also you don't have to carry the box of rations you would brake it down so it was easy to carry ie some in the left side pouch some in the right side pouch.

  • @squeethesane
    @squeethesane 9 років тому +1

    I remember MRE's as being very compact. That's an awesome true 24 hr load out but like Dan points out, so heavy... The meal pouches seem like they'd be worth making room for if you do another survival trip.

    You know I have enjoyed many different reviews,video's on youtube over the years and a few weeks ago I came across "Deep Digger Dan" by accident as I have never done any metal detecting.
    Over the last few weeks I have lapped up everything you have put on - seriously the most entertaining, down to Earth funny bloke on youtube today.
    I love wild camping so enjoyed your Scotland treks (sure you put a video up a few years back with your plans and think I commented but could be wrong?).
    Im even looking for a cheap entry in metal detecting now as I think me n the kids would have some fun.
    Keep it up mate , just liked your FB page as well - you are one of a kind and a top bloke.

    I do Army Cadets (UK) and we got 2 of these boxes for 2 days and I had so much stuff left over. Every box is different so if you get something you dont like in the field you can swap with your mates and its pretty good. Keep the videos up Dan! +Deepdiggerdan They are supposed to keep all of it inside you, I didnt poo for 3 days after eating these, keeps all the energy and stuff inside of you :D +homemadestuffz

    • @DelReyno
      @DelReyno 9 років тому

      TheTopKek Yeah, I found that it's a nice selection if you pick the right box. You could end up with a box which is just terrible and you have to deal with everyone just to get something you want. Also, the officers don't tell you what's in them which really sucks (I'm an NCO in the CCF by the way)

    In regards to the muesli, you don't need to follow the instruction on the packed, you just add as much water as you like. For in the field nobody carries a measuring container to measure out the required amount of water. also if its really floury then you need to add loads more water for there should be no flour left
    great video overall and a please to come across your videos again, i used to watch but youtube deleted my subscribed list.

    Dan,
    I am impressed. That was between 3800-4200 Kcalories, and enough sugar in one go to put a rhino in a mood. I enjoyed seeing how wide your eyes got about 10 seconds before you said you had a lot of energy.
    Rat Packs are called MRE'S in the States, and honestly, they are comparable to what you ate in this video.
    I am curious, did your energy crash down quite hard, within a couple hours of finishing the food?

  • @Nero_Mania
    @Nero_Mania 8 років тому

    I think the reason why some soldiers would do that is because during training or overseas, youre moving around and fightingbso you might not have time to eat. Some soldiers even go a day with out food so by the end of the day you have that. If you havent eaten anything in at most over 24 hours youd be hungry as heck so youd want to get that food in your stomach and the energy that you need. So I would say, lack of food, alot of spare time, or a very big appetite are some of the reasons why a soldier mightbtry the rat pack challenge. But im not a soldier so chances are im wrong but its a good theory none the less
