I updated the modpack I created for the video a few years ago, so if you'd like to give it a try here it is! www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/dark-and-dangerous Let me know if I should change/add/fix anything and I'll be sure to update it.
One thing you are neglecting in these scary mod packs is that there should be moments of comfort and safety in between the tense times. That way the tention and moments of terror are more impactful.
if i could add some more mods, i'd probably go with Chisel, Pam's Harvestcraft and some furniture mods, like Mr Crayfish's Furniture Mod, or Decocraft these could provide some comfort, like making a really nice base and having decent food, which makes going outside the more scarier (and you'll have to if you want certain crops, materials, etc) only thing is i don't know whats updated and what isnt so particular mods i mentioned might not work, but i hope my idea itself came across fine here C:
I am literally alone in my dorm and on my campus except for a few people i dont know so I got so fuckin scared and did a whole sweep after I heard the knocks. Came back to my computer and put on the headphones and heard it and was like ohhhh lmaooooo
Is it just me or does this straight up enhance the feel of Minecraft? I really like the look of the shader and the resource pack even outside horror stuff, it's weirdly nostalgic and comforting since it kinda reminds me of old 2012 medieval resource packs. Image being chased in a dark cave by weeping angels with spiders crawling all across the walls, then just coming back up to your cozy home. This pack manages to give back the old Minecraft feel in a lot of ways.
@@ThornyPickled They don't know how to deal with him. Once you get used to dealing with him _(getting used to running for your life when you hear him)_ he's more of a slight inconvenience than anything else.
In addition to add to the horrors of the cave, you could also add the “it lives” texture pack that changes the sculk and the warden into an amalgamation of meat creatures to make exploring the deep dark even more unnerving.
Oh I HATE those spiders. Minecraft's spiders manage to not be scary due to the goofy simple textures and extreme dumbness but being able to crawl around on any surface and navigate is just a nightmare.
I feel like a great addition to this would be some sort of skinwalker that would take a random players skin and try to follow players around to kill them when they're cornered. The only tell would be no nameplate above their head and communication with other players, but throw in an area based voice chat and it would be even harder to tell.
Imagine if the skinwalker looked down sometimes like it's looking at the inventory, places down a crafting table, mines some ores, maybe even attacks enemy mobs with irregular, player-like swings Then, when you least expect it...
Dude same. I live out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods. It's at least a couple minutes walk to a neighbor's house. Been binging horror movies all night and watched this for a break and the moment I heard that knocking sound I jumped up and thought someone was at my door.
Love how the background music during the gameplay shots is a distorded version of sweden, making it fit the Minecraft's style but being 10 times creepier. Great idea.
I feel like this is exactly the atmosphere I'd like nether to have. Just imagine playing Minecraft for the first time, managing to get what you need to travel to another dimension, and as you cross the portal, you are greeted with a completely different atmosphere. While I already like Nether, I feel like it just feels like the atmosphere is.. intimidating, but not exactly scary. And I do think that having that 'scary' part to a literal hell dimension would really add to the experience. And all those mod packs and what not in the video would really remind you where you are, that it's not a place you're welcomed in. And people would be lowkey shitting themselves going there, not only for the first time, but each time they cross the portal there would be that very same terrifying feeling. Because you know that the atmosphere there will shift dramatically. But each time it would scare you just as much as the last time.
It would be awesome of you could make this a modpack with your own adjustments (sounds) if you can. This stuff takes alot of time and often something doesn't work
I agree, I wonder why he doesn't just make a public modpack on forge client for us all to download. I tried the eyes mod, and I don't find the default sounds scary whatsoever, so I tried making my own sounds that I found creepy for the eyes, but once you spend more than an hour changing the sounds out.. you start to desensitize yourself to those sounds and they're not scary anymore. You know what to expect, since you just made all the sounds. So if he just uploaded his version, and had a dropbox of the sound files to drag into the mod, I'd love it.
i was mostly scared by the warden summoning, the spiders crawling through the spikes and the part where you were in a boat through the caves it just reminded me of the time i went caving and i felt like i was being watched so me and my family had to leave
The door knocking sound at 5:42 honestly had me rewinding your video to replay the sound 5 times just to make sure I wasn't tripping balls and hearing it irl
Hardcore darkness itself completely transforms Minecraft; doing anything in the dark goes from being risky to absolutely suicidal, and makes the mobs much scarier Combining it with dynamic lighting is so much fun
I've been making a Modpack for halloween recently I've already put alot of these mods in it but theres so many extra ones I hadn't seen yet but I have now thanks to this video
I'd suggest making day as long as night (night is shorter than day by around a third in vanilla game, so it'll feel longer anyway) but keep the extended length (maybe like.. 30min? 20? at least twice as long as the normal 7) That way, the whole day is spent in fear of the long dark night, ramping up tension. If you really want a shorter day, only make it a little shorter.. 25% or so, like the vanilla night compared to day. the difference will hit especially hard due to how much you need light.. also potentially remove the knocking ambient sound effect. it's not game related and doesn't really feel right like the rest of your expertly compiled modpack additionally, if there's a way to make that Tremors mod functional (stones falling out of the ceiling, caves collapsing giving the perception that they are no longer the infinitely stable constructions minecraft have made us used to) that could really ramp things up. overall though bravo! It looks and feels terrifying just from watching
I agree with a lot of that because tbf the knocking would be a lot more annoying to me than scary and the tremors aren't as scary knowing there's nothing to worry about when they happen
The music kills it. Silence is much more unnerving than creepy music. Also, there is constant fear, there need to be more light moments, to make the highs higher.
I actually made a horror modpack of my own last year which was partially inspired by your previous videos in this series. I'm glad for this sequel as it is definitely scary and can give me more ideas for my next update.
The gameplay part made me realize that I'd love to see more multiplayer let's plays without any voiceover or text chat and man, the death message of your friend almost made my heart sink, thinking this was hardcore mode before looking down
It's actually incredible what mods and modders can do to this game. Just a fraction of these mods completely changes the game. This is a great video and it perfectly portrays the mods in the gameplay section, and I can't wait to play with these mods. Keep up the great work!
Many aspects of this pack reminded me of Castle Miner Z (basically a more realistic, scarier Minecraft clone). Despite never having played it, i felt kinda nostalgic since i used to watch gameplays of it when i was younger. Minecraft has a lot of potential to be scary, specially with the survival mechanics that make you actually go out. I kinda wish Mojang focused on this and on exploration more earlier on the game's life tbh
The knocking at 5:43 and at the end has me jumping every time. It legit sounds like someone at my window. I initially ran to go look who was out there!
that gameplay section was dope as hell, i think you should totally make more things like this, even if in just showcasing the atmosphere and gameplay with modpacks you make
Please make this into a modpack! This could be a very fun challenge. Like a short day on peaceful and a longer night on hardcore, with scaling difficulty.
if all the mobs had different functions, like spiders being able to shoot web or creepers being able to charge at you, it'd be a lot more intimidating as well!
Has anyone done a full multiplayer gameplay video with this modpack yet? It'd be cool to see how well a group of friends could survive, especially if they added a couple more mobs, the parasyte mod might be a fun addition provided you tweaked the rate of corruption.
For the next how to make Minecraft it’d be really cool if you could make the game feel new and unkown! I feel like a lot of the magic of early minecraft was just not knowing what was coming your way and needing to learn the game and I sometimes wish we could all get that feeling back :)
Been looking for mods that add horror elements to my TerraFirmaCraft-inspired mod pack. I already _most_ of these. Now I'm adding Spelunker's Charm. :D I think Spelunker's Charm would go great with a cave-in mod that makes the cave itself an actual threat, so the rumbling sounds and falling rocks are even more unsettling. Edit: Just found a mod named RealMining that offers a "landslide" mechanic. And it's TFC-inspired, too. Perfection.
