Experiencing this feeling in real life is absolutely horrifying. When I was younger I was walking home from my friends house at night after a long day of hanging out gaming and exploring the woods like we had 200 times before that, through a little trail we had that connected our houses (they weren’t far away we were next door neighbors.) I was walking minding my business and it felt like the entire world went on pause. The trees stopped shaking and the air around me seemed to completely freeze as if it was as terrified as I was. I could hear no signs of life except for my own heartbeat. It’s almost like you can FEEL something there just watching you. I ran faster than i’ve ever run in my life back to my house. I’ve never experienced it again and never want to. I’ve never felt more vulnerable and like something was cornering me… watching me like that. It was like everything paused in anticipation of what would happen next, and maybe something would’ve, but I didn’t wait around to find out. I can only describe the feeling as what it must feel like to be a prey animal just waiting for my turn to be eaten. I don’t know if it was a paranormal or an animal or something but it was like time just froze and I was maybe standing there 5-10 seconds but it felt like an eternity.
This on a multiplayer server would be insane. Imagine hearing the voice of your friend... in the middle of the forest... in deep fog... just for it to the THAT. Wishing you lots of success in your current and future modding endeavors.
The creepiest part, in my opinion, is that it's able to mimic your voice. Imagine the fear and panic the Manbear could cause on a multiplayer world just by imitating your friends.

This mod is genuinely scary, and is very different than the more popular dweller concept, reminds me of the reworked Man From the Fog in a sense, I cant wait to see more of the Manbear!
the reworked man from the fog is genuinely a wonderful complimentary horror mod. hes not some unfair garbage anymore, hes genuinely terrifying and forces you to always be on guard when adventuring at night, forcing you to stare directly into his eyes and confront him instead of just trying to ignore him.

When the brain panics, it loses all rational sense, so you make stupid decisions, one of them is to hide and run, which is why they run into forests, because they can see cover and get far away, where as a house is enclosed, and can’t escape from if cornered, despair the owl bear being advantaged in the forests

Scary noises are scary, but the most horrifying sound in a lively forest, is the absence of sound, especially when everything suddenly goes quiet. Edit: seriously you should add that, when he’s watching you everything goes silent
In a forest. The absence of noise is a signal that a predator is near. It is the same kind of fear as uncanny Valley. A fear of somthing that triggers a primal fear.
Its the primally ingrained 6th sense, specifically to detect nearby predators. Since out mind is our greatest weapon we have to wane focus on background noise, however our subconscious maintains a monitor on potential threats, thats why sudden silence, footsteps and quiet sounds snap your attention so harshly
The main things cave dweller copies are missing are suspense and buildup. Most of them just have some kinda sound effect and then it pops up and tries to kill you, which will probably surprise you at first, but it isn't really scary. The Manbear looks fantastic in my opinion, it copying your voice sent chills down my spine the first time, and he didn't even do anything after it. Almost 10 minutes go by after it seems like it might attack, but it never does, which makes the 10 minutes all the more unsettling. It's unpredictable, it catches you off guard, but most importantly, it waits. It doesn't just attack you right away or slowly follow you, it appears randomly in a way that you barely notice, and then it disappears without you even properly seeing what it looks like, making it all the more terrifying due to humanity's natural fear of the unknown. I love it.

The fact there isn’t any normal hostile mobs makes this 10x better. If there were zombies and skeletons it would destroy the thought of being alone abd would take away the night time exploration
Or he leaves subtle traces. It would also be cool if he set up traps like bigfoot in the hunting bigfoot game. Maybe there could be a large footprint in the snow. Large claw marks on the tree. Knocked over trees. It would also be cool if he formed kind of camps or living spaces that you can explore

@@ajin5381 There's no AI in both mods. Skinwalkers just detects when there's any sound from your mic above a certain threshold and saves these clips as an mp3 files (also filters out short clips) and then plays them from creature's position at random intervals.

You should add a feature that tamed dogs can warn you of the ManBear's presence. You will be doing whatever you are doing with your dog but for some reason the dog just starts growling. You look at your dog and he is full agro, like with the red eyes and everything, but for some reason he isn't moving to attack. He is just standing there staring off in a direction. If you look off in the direction the dog is looking at and you have exceptionally good eye sight, you can see the ManBear's figure looming in the distance. The reason the dog isn't moving to attack is because the dog knows he will die if he tries to fight the ManBear. If the dog could, he would try to run away, but he is loyal to his owner, so instead the dog tries to protect the owner, despite how scared he is. It can act as a kind of warning system, and even if you don't own a dog you can note the presence of the ManBear with two things, or rather the lack of two things. One, nothing, not a damn thing is spawning. The entire forest lacks naturally spawning mobs. All the mobs that are around are trying to run away from the area. This is because of one thing, all the animals in the forest can sense the ManBear's threatening presence with their primal instincts. They can feel the overbearing threat of an apex predator with the animalistic intuition that we lack. The second thing you notice is that there is no sound. The entire forest is dead quiet except for the sounds that the ManBear makes. This is partially because all the mobs that could run away made themselves scarce. But the mobs that are still around (maybe because they are stuck in a fenced in area you made for them) are as quiet as a mouse. Not a single oink from a pig or chrip from a bird. This is because they can't run away so they are trying to not bring any attention to themselves, in the desperate hope that if they stay quiet and don't make sound, maybe, just maybe, the apex predator will ignore them. Just some ideas.
i always start with a hole (which i like to call hobbit holes), make the ceilings and walls glass so i can see outside, and eventually turn the hobbit hole into a “basement” of an actual house. the fun starts when i turn around and wonder why tf a creeper was behind me
That’s always been my strat, just go subterranean mode. Assuming he didn’t design the mod to dig you out. Just make yourself a little dug-out for the night and then venture out during the day to make an actual house or get supplies. Or continue to develop it which is what I tend to do.

Which implies if you don’t dig deep enough he can still get you but if you make an underground fortress then the mod isn’t that scary. That is unless he can spawn underground in like your storeroom or some other random place. I’ll eat my words if he can but if not you then the strategy still stands.
It's been years since I wished for "Stalkering Creatures" to add to my worlds, something to watch and creep my gameplay, but there was nothing like that at the time. It's like watching a kid grow, seeing all these mods is a blessing for minecrafters

Interesting, I know lots of the “horror” mods have a variety of spawn rules, but seems different. I notice it seems to spawn in a snow like biome but what makes its spawn rule more unique that it only seems to appear if it’s snowing. I like to think of this similar to the warden as it makes use of limiting our vision which most other “horror” mods don’t take advantage of. All and all this isn’t like dweller mods, this is truely it’s own creature that uses different mechanics to scare us which works because most of us are too use to the dweller mods and not to unique horror mods
You mentioned that the manbear can break your house in another comment, and if that's true then personally I think that's a bad idea. Horror mods that grief the player's house/build feel cheap, and personally I think making it so that the player can feel safe in their own house is actually helpful in building tension because it makes it scarier outside the house where you're not safe. It makes you more anxious to leave or wander too far to gather resources. If you want to keep the player from feeling TOO safe you can have it so if their base gets big enough, aka if the open space they're found within is over a certain size/volume, then the manbear can spawn inside with them. A common challenge for people who play horror mods is building a base so having a mob that destroys someone's base is somewhat counterintuitive and often ends up being more annoying than anything especially as they get more and more used to the mod, but having a limit on how big the base can safely be can help force them to keep their base smaller or segmented/split up, which makes the sense of claustrophobia and being trapped more pronounced. You could also have it do that it can spawn inside on rare occasions when the player isn't inside their base if they're outside too long for an extended period of time, as if it managed to make its way in somehow when you weren't around. Where the player's base is could be determined by where their bed is and if it's in an enclosed area within a certain distance. You could also alternatively maybe make it so that it can learn to open regular wooden doors after a while so the player needs to change to metal doors or other methods to get in and out safely. Giving the player a limited sense of safety is often a good thing with horror mods/games, it helps prevent them from getting desensitized to the monster as quickly because if they're never safe and can never escape or avoid the monster ever then there's no point in trying to avoid it and fear can quickly turn to frustration or apathy instead. Instead you want the player to feel encouraged to leave their safe place because they need to gather resources or to reach a new location or to continue the story, depending on the style of horror game they're playing. They're more likely to run if they have somewhere to run to that they know is safe. It might result in them getting caught/killed less but that just makes the possibility of getting caught/killed scarier than if it happens constantly. Just my 2 cents.

This is peak horror. It repeats your voice, it mimics you, it does everything. It genuinely makes you afraid to even click 'play' on your minecraft world. The first few seconds of the video already had me nervous. I really feel like a V2 is in order, as well. I don't wanna order you around, but I feel like if you take the manbear (scariest minecraft horror mod), and made a V2 with even more scary aspects to it, you could easily make this the scariest minecraft horror mod that absolutely noone could top. Some mechanics might include: Fake Night (When the manbear is around, it will appear to be nighttime.) Silent Night (When the manbear is around, it will be completely silent. No animals or mobs will spawn, background music completely stops, and the night just becomes quiet and empty. *too quiet and empty.* This would really unnerve a lot of players. Victims (Mangled bodies of sheep, cows, and zombies can be found around the manbear's territory. Additionally, blood can be found on the ground or trees in the manbear's territory. This marks the final resting place of the manbear's recent victims. Spooky, right?) Scary Noises (Utilize scary and offputting noises in the manbear's territory. Sudden noises and eerie ambience easily scare most people, and put them on edge. I know this is already implemented, but make them more in the moment. Make them more unexpected. Don't have them as just one little jump, but instead as something that puts them on edge for the rest of the night. You know what I mean?) Territory (Instead of the manbear haunting you around the whole map, the manbear will have a designated territory. Basically how this works is: every day the manbear will pick a certain biome. Then, the manbear will choose that biome as it's 'territory', which is where it will reside and attack the player. The manbear can only affect the player if the player is in the biome that has been selected as it's territory. Desert biomes will not be selected. Every night, the manbear's territory will randomly change to a new biome. All the other biomes are normal, but once you enter the biome that is the territory, you're gonna wish you hadn't.) You could put way more mechanics, but this is my personal opinion. I seriously think you could make this mod so scary it would not even be comparable to other mods in any way, but it's already pretty close so don't go worrying too much about this lol. Loving it though! Very spoopy!

All of those except silent night aren't so good imo because they point out that the thing is actually around whereas everything going quiet will be something you don't immediately notice and you can't see it so the silence will make something feel different and off without directly showing that something is wrong
I REALLY like how realistic this one is compared to most "Dweller" mods. It isn't a humanoid creature with elongated limbs or anything like that, it's literally an animal, a predator, and this mod does an amazing job at making you feel like prey. It doesn't have a loud ass soundtrack or screaming when you encounter the Manbear, it roars like an animal sounds and imitates your own voice, and most of the time it can scare the shit out of you just with sound effects. When it DOES appear, however, it doesn't immediately start chasing you and making loud noises, it just sits there staring at you, just to disappear in the fog immediately after. Sure, maybe it depends a bit too much on shaders in that aspect, but who's gonna get scared by Minecraft with the default visuals? Its design is also something I gotta really give credit for, the Manbear has a pretty big model, which means that it is visible from afar, but just seeing a huge silhouette like that in the distance can be very terrifying, and seeing it from up-close doesn't take that away, as it towers over the player with ease. This is definitely one of the best horror mods I've ever seen, incredible work!

To make a truly terrifying mod, we need to make the game support the mod. Give mobs new rare sounds, use them to make horror movies cheap scares or new mobs even! When you only add a single mob, everything diferent will at least be atributed to it, making it less scary.
It’s this difference that enhances the mob, when you hear something different, you know it’s not normal, and that’s terrifying. Course horror is subjective but that’s just how I see it

Primordial Fear really kicks to 1 to 100 turbo mode and all of youre senses enhance when the First twig cracked and you know you are no longer alone,it really turned scary when it started to mimic human sound

TLDR: Someone PLEASE make a horror mod where the monster is completely different each time you encounter it. In response to the trend of "horror mods" and its apparent stagnation, I came up with an idea for a "perfect" horror mod that would be called "Schrodinger's Herobrine." The monster's appearance, sound, name and behavior would be procedurally generated for every encounter, so you can never know what the monster will do, and you will never be able to predict or become familiar with the monster's behavior. It would also be able to do things that mobs "shouldn't" be allowed to do, such as opening and closing doors, breaking and placing blocks, opening chests and dropping some of the items onto the ground, et cetera; things that wouldn't be so annoying as to take away from the fear factor, but significant enough to warrant a shiver when the player notices that something's off. The monster should only rarely actually try to kill the player so that it doesn't become predictable or annoying, but should always pose a plausible threat so that it never becomes trivial. Jumpscares should be avoided when possible so that it doesn't become "cheap" or "unimaginative," focusing more on ambient horror and the fear of the unknown. Most of the time, the monster should exist entirely outside the player's line of sight and disappear the instant that the player sees it, or even right before so that the player's fear of the unknown is prolonged. The monster should only confront the player visibly maybe about like 35% of the time, so that the player's imagination can run wild with possibilities. The monster should appear rare enough that it doesn't become a nuisance, but common enough that its presence in the world is significant. All in all, proper balance would be crucial, as any number of factors being too high or too low could result in a sub-par experience. I can't make this mod myself because I'm too busy, but I would really appreciate it if somebody else were to make this mod for me. I might even commission someone at some point, I don't know.
That will be a very hard thing to make, and I don’t think a commission for the full thing would do it justice. Instead i think you should commission for the base elevator, and then start adding the variant floors; as the base would probably be the hardest part. I also think you would be more motivated to finish making it, because you wouldn’t have a reason to quit anymore
I don't think this mod would actually be that difficult to make, apart from a few details here and there, everything seems simple enough, and with a configuration file option, the experience could be simple to adjust and customize for each individual. The only tedious thing about making this would probably be the large amount of 3D models and possible traits/behaviours for the monster, everything else could be modular and more-less plug-and-play. I'd actually consider making this mod, however I currently don't have the time, but in the near future, who knows.
Just came here to say that in my country (or more specifically, my province), we have a horror story coming from farmers and hunters living on the hills about a Manbear or "Ucumar" as we call it, so this mod hits incredibly close, especially the whole part of imitating voices and waiting for you just to scare the hell out of you. I love it!
Manbear really is the next level. It fits Minecraft idea as a horror game, much, much better than Dweller. I mean Dweller is just like another Warden, but overpowered as f**k, with some additional mechanics, btw not very fresh. The scariest thing on the Earth is human imagination so pushing it with some noises, disappearing or appearing things, and showing just something in corner of the view can really boost our fear to the absolute edge. Great job man!!
looks amazing! i had some ideas if you're interested in them. i think that when it copies your voice, it should slightly modify the recording it takes so it sounds a little inhuman. like the manbear is still figuring out exactly how to copy you. i think that having scratch marks in some of the trees that it's been near would be a cool way to show you that something is nearby, and that whatever it is, you're in its territory. lastly i had the idea of there being a random chance for one of the villages nearby to become massacred. like a village you've visited before could become abandoned, with scratch marks and blood and broken doors everywhere, but no sign of the villagers. just some things i thought of :) super cool mod!
I really like it. It reminds me of one of my favorite gamplays I ever saw (ironicall i can't remember the name) but basically, you were in a radio tower trying to help a hike get away from Goat Man. At one point the goat man looks at you and screams. Not the scariest game I've seen, but defiently one of the most rememberable. Edit: it’s called ‘do you copy’ I recommend checking it out if you like a bit of a shorter mystery horror game. It has multiple endings.
See, this is how you make minecraft scary! It's not just right in your face, it's stalking you from afar, giving you a chance to make shelter and get food but always watching. You have this sense of constant unease knowing it could strike at any moment. The fact that you didn't even see it during the first chase was so chilling, it was just this horrible roar and it was running at you but you couldn't see what you were running from. The snowy biome is perfect for this too, the snow making it foggy and harder to see adds to the spooky factor. Great job!

Now i finally remember what this Mod reminds me of. Its the game "Do you Copy?" Just like in your Mod the Creature mimics the voice of their victims. Instead of an Manbear its a Goatman. And i really liked that game, even though it was short. Your Mod is like a perfect recreation of the creature in the game for Minecraft. Good work.

Simple enough, have mic permissions constantly on, and then let a voice recognition script trigger an RNG that determines if the last thing you said will be played back.

I still want a horror mod that has the monster be more of a curious creature than a hunter, getting closer and closer to you, observing what you do, maybe its hostility depends on an invisible morality system, like making houses for Villagers makes it more passive, or killing Villagers makes it more aggressive maybe it'd be humanoid, but it'd be more like a mix between Mothman and a Wendigo (two cryptids a lot of people seem to think are cut)

I’ve never experienced it again and never want to. I’ve never felt more vulnerable and like something was cornering me… watching me like that. It was like everything paused in anticipation of what would happen next, and maybe something would’ve, but I didn’t wait around to find out. I can only describe the feeling as what it must feel like to be a prey animal just waiting for my turn to be eaten. I don’t know if it was a paranormal or an animal or something but it was like time just froze and I was maybe standing there 5-10 seconds but it felt like an eternity.

Since out mind is our greatest weapon we have to wane focus on background noise, however our subconscious maintains a monitor on potential threats, thats why sudden silence, footsteps and quiet sounds snap your attention so harshly

The main things cave dweller copies are missing are suspense and buildup. Most of them just have some kinda sound effect and then it pops up and tries to kill you, which will probably surprise you at first, but it isn't really scary.
The Manbear looks fantastic in my opinion, it copying your voice sent chills down my spine the first time, and he didn't even do anything after it. Almost 10 minutes go by after it seems like it might attack, but it never does, which makes the 10 minutes all the more unsettling. It's unpredictable, it catches you off guard, but most importantly, it waits. It doesn't just attack you right away or slowly follow you, it appears randomly in a way that you barely notice, and then it disappears without you even properly seeing what it looks like, making it all the more terrifying due to humanity's natural fear of the unknown. I love it.

You should add a feature that tamed dogs can warn you of the ManBear's presence.
You will be doing whatever you are doing with your dog but for some reason the dog just starts growling. You look at your dog and he is full agro, like with the red eyes and everything, but for some reason he isn't moving to attack. He is just standing there staring off in a direction. If you look off in the direction the dog is looking at and you have exceptionally good eye sight, you can see the ManBear's figure looming in the distance.
The reason the dog isn't moving to attack is because the dog knows he will die if he tries to fight the ManBear. If the dog could, he would try to run away, but he is loyal to his owner, so instead the dog tries to protect the owner, despite how scared he is. It can act as a kind of warning system, and even if you don't own a dog you can note the presence of the ManBear with two things, or rather the lack of two things.
One, nothing, not a damn thing is spawning. The entire forest lacks naturally spawning mobs. All the mobs that are around are trying to run away from the area. This is because of one thing, all the animals in the forest can sense the ManBear's threatening presence with their primal instincts. They can feel the overbearing threat of an apex predator with the animalistic intuition that we lack.
The second thing you notice is that there is no sound. The entire forest is dead quiet except for the sounds that the ManBear makes. This is partially because all the mobs that could run away made themselves scarce. But the mobs that are still around (maybe because they are stuck in a fenced in area you made for them) are as quiet as a mouse. Not a single oink from a pig or chrip from a bird. This is because they can't run away so they are trying to not bring any attention to themselves, in the desperate hope that if they stay quiet and don't make sound, maybe, just maybe, the apex predator will ignore them.
Just some ideas.

That’s always been my strat, just go subterranean mode. Assuming he didn’t design the mod to dig you out. Just make yourself a little dug-out for the night and then venture out during the day to make an actual house or get supplies. Or continue to develop it which is what I tend to do.

Interesting, I know lots of the “horror” mods have a variety of spawn rules, but seems different. I notice it seems to spawn in a snow like biome but what makes its spawn rule more unique that it only seems to appear if it’s snowing. I like to think of this similar to the warden as it makes use of limiting our vision which most other “horror” mods don’t take advantage of. All and all this isn’t like dweller mods, this is truely it’s own creature that uses different mechanics to scare us which works because most of us are too use to the dweller mods and not to unique horror mods
You mentioned that the manbear can break your house in another comment, and if that's true then personally I think that's a bad idea. Horror mods that grief the player's house/build feel cheap, and personally I think making it so that the player can feel safe in their own house is actually helpful in building tension because it makes it scarier outside the house where you're not safe. It makes you more anxious to leave or wander too far to gather resources.
If you want to keep the player from feeling TOO safe you can have it so if their base gets big enough, aka if the open space they're found within is over a certain size/volume, then the manbear can spawn inside with them. A common challenge for people who play horror mods is building a base so having a mob that destroys someone's base is somewhat counterintuitive and often ends up being more annoying than anything especially as they get more and more used to the mod, but having a limit on how big the base can safely be can help force them to keep their base smaller or segmented/split up, which makes the sense of claustrophobia and being trapped more pronounced. You could also have it do that it can spawn inside on rare occasions when the player isn't inside their base if they're outside too long for an extended period of time, as if it managed to make its way in somehow when you weren't around. Where the player's base is could be determined by where their bed is and if it's in an enclosed area within a certain distance. You could also alternatively maybe make it so that it can learn to open regular wooden doors after a while so the player needs to change to metal doors or other methods to get in and out safely.
Giving the player a limited sense of safety is often a good thing with horror mods/games, it helps prevent them from getting desensitized to the monster as quickly because if they're never safe and can never escape or avoid the monster ever then there's no point in trying to avoid it and fear can quickly turn to frustration or apathy instead. Instead you want the player to feel encouraged to leave their safe place because they need to gather resources or to reach a new location or to continue the story, depending on the style of horror game they're playing. They're more likely to run if they have somewhere to run to that they know is safe. It might result in them getting caught/killed less but that just makes the possibility of getting caught/killed scarier than if it happens constantly. Just my 2 cents.

This is peak horror. It repeats your voice, it mimics you, it does everything. It genuinely makes you afraid to even click 'play' on your minecraft world. The first few seconds of the video already had me nervous. I really feel like a V2 is in order, as well. I don't wanna order you around, but I feel like if you take the manbear (scariest minecraft horror mod), and made a V2 with even more scary aspects to it, you could easily make this the scariest minecraft horror mod that absolutely noone could top. Some mechanics might include:
Fake Night (When the manbear is around, it will appear to be nighttime.)
Silent Night (When the manbear is around, it will be completely silent. No animals or mobs will spawn, background music completely stops, and the night just becomes quiet and empty. *too quiet and empty.* This would really unnerve a lot of players.
Victims (Mangled bodies of sheep, cows, and zombies can be found around the manbear's territory. Additionally, blood can be found on the ground or trees in the manbear's territory. This marks the final resting place of the manbear's recent victims. Spooky, right?)
Scary Noises (Utilize scary and offputting noises in the manbear's territory. Sudden noises and eerie ambience easily scare most people, and put them on edge. I know this is already implemented, but make them more in the moment. Make them more unexpected. Don't have them as just one little jump, but instead as something that puts them on edge for the rest of the night. You know what I mean?)
Territory (Instead of the manbear haunting you around the whole map, the manbear will have a designated territory. Basically how this works is: every day the manbear will pick a certain biome. Then, the manbear will choose that biome as it's 'territory', which is where it will reside and attack the player. The manbear can only affect the player if the player is in the biome that has been selected as it's territory. Desert biomes will not be selected. Every night, the manbear's territory will randomly change to a new biome. All the other biomes are normal, but once you enter the biome that is the territory, you're gonna wish you hadn't.)
You could put way more mechanics, but this is my personal opinion. I seriously think you could make this mod so scary it would not even be comparable to other mods in any way, but it's already pretty close so don't go worrying too much about this lol. Loving it though! Very spoopy!

All of those except silent night aren't so good imo because they point out that the thing is actually around whereas everything going quiet will be something you don't immediately notice and you can't see it so the silence will make something feel different and off without directly showing that something is wrong
I REALLY like how realistic this one is compared to most "Dweller" mods. It isn't a humanoid creature with elongated limbs or anything like that, it's literally an animal, a predator, and this mod does an amazing job at making you feel like prey. It doesn't have a loud ass soundtrack or screaming when you encounter the Manbear, it roars like an animal sounds and imitates your own voice, and most of the time it can scare the shit out of you just with sound effects.
When it DOES appear, however, it doesn't immediately start chasing you and making loud noises, it just sits there staring at you, just to disappear in the fog immediately after. Sure, maybe it depends a bit too much on shaders in that aspect, but who's gonna get scared by Minecraft with the default visuals? Its design is also something I gotta really give credit for, the Manbear has a pretty big model, which means that it is visible from afar, but just seeing a huge silhouette like that in the distance can be very terrifying, and seeing it from up-close doesn't take that away, as it towers over the player with ease.
This is definitely one of the best horror mods I've ever seen, incredible work!

To make a truly terrifying mod, we need to make the game support the mod.
Give mobs new rare sounds, use them to make horror movies cheap scares or new mobs even!
When you only add a single mob, everything diferent will at least be atributed to it, making it less scary.
It’s this difference that enhances the mob, when you hear something different, you know it’s not normal, and that’s terrifying. Course horror is subjective but that’s just how I see it

TLDR: Someone PLEASE make a horror mod where the monster is completely different each time you encounter it.
In response to the trend of "horror mods" and its apparent stagnation, I came up with an idea for a "perfect" horror mod that would be called "Schrodinger's Herobrine." The monster's appearance, sound, name and behavior would be procedurally generated for every encounter, so you can never know what the monster will do, and you will never be able to predict or become familiar with the monster's behavior.
It would also be able to do things that mobs "shouldn't" be allowed to do, such as opening and closing doors, breaking and placing blocks, opening chests and dropping some of the items onto the ground, et cetera; things that wouldn't be so annoying as to take away from the fear factor, but significant enough to warrant a shiver when the player notices that something's off.
The monster should only rarely actually try to kill the player so that it doesn't become predictable or annoying, but should always pose a plausible threat so that it never becomes trivial.
Jumpscares should be avoided when possible so that it doesn't become "cheap" or "unimaginative," focusing more on ambient horror and the fear of the unknown. Most of the time, the monster should exist entirely outside the player's line of sight and disappear the instant that the player sees it, or even right before so that the player's fear of the unknown is prolonged. The monster should only confront the player visibly maybe about like 35% of the time, so that the player's imagination can run wild with possibilities.
The monster should appear rare enough that it doesn't become a nuisance, but common enough that its presence in the world is significant.
All in all, proper balance would be crucial, as any number of factors being too high or too low could result in a sub-par experience. I can't make this mod myself because I'm too busy, but I would really appreciate it if somebody else were to make this mod for me. I might even commission someone at some point, I don't know.
That will be a very hard thing to make, and I don’t think a commission for the full thing would do it justice. Instead i think you should commission for the base elevator, and then start adding the variant floors; as the base would probably be the hardest part. I also think you would be more motivated to finish making it, because you wouldn’t have a reason to quit anymore

I don't think this mod would actually be that difficult to make, apart from a few details here and there, everything seems simple enough, and with a configuration file option, the experience could be simple to adjust and customize for each individual.
The only tedious thing about making this would probably be the large amount of 3D models and possible traits/behaviours for the monster, everything else could be modular and more-less plug-and-play.
I'd actually consider making this mod, however I currently don't have the time, but in the near future, who knows.

Just came here to say that in my country (or more specifically, my province), we have a horror story coming from farmers and hunters living on the hills about a Manbear or "Ucumar" as we call it, so this mod hits incredibly close, especially the whole part of imitating voices and waiting for you just to scare the hell out of you. I love it!

Manbear really is the next level. It fits Minecraft idea as a horror game, much, much better than Dweller. I mean Dweller is just like another Warden, but overpowered as f**k, with some additional mechanics, btw not very fresh. The scariest thing on the Earth is human imagination so pushing it with some noises, disappearing or appearing things, and showing just something in corner of the view can really boost our fear to the absolute edge. Great job man!!

i think that when it copies your voice, it should slightly modify the recording it takes so it sounds a little inhuman. like the manbear is still figuring out exactly how to copy you.
i think that having scratch marks in some of the trees that it's been near would be a cool way to show you that something is nearby, and that whatever it is, you're in its territory.
lastly i had the idea of there being a random chance for one of the villages nearby to become massacred. like a village you've visited before could become abandoned, with scratch marks and blood and broken doors everywhere, but no sign of the villagers.
just some things i thought of :) super cool mod!
all of these + making nearby creatures like bird sounds and stuff go silent when hes near would be cool since I saw a lot of people talking about that

I really like it. It reminds me of one of my favorite gamplays I ever saw (ironicall i can't remember the name) but basically, you were in a radio tower trying to help a hike get away from Goat Man. At one point the goat man looks at you and screams. Not the scariest game I've seen, but defiently one of the most rememberable.
Edit: it’s called ‘do you copy’ I recommend checking it out if you like a bit of a shorter mystery horror game. It has multiple endings.

I loved that game, honestly.
See, this is how you make minecraft scary! It's not just right in your face, it's stalking you from afar, giving you a chance to make shelter and get food but always watching. You have this sense of constant unease knowing it could strike at any moment. The fact that you didn't even see it during the first chase was so chilling, it was just this horrible roar and it was running at you but you couldn't see what you were running from. The snowy biome is perfect for this too, the snow making it foggy and harder to see adds to the spooky factor. Great job!

Now i finally remember what this Mod reminds me of. Its the game "Do you Copy?" Just like in your Mod the Creature mimics the voice of their victims. Instead of an Manbear its a Goatman. And i really liked that game, even though it was short. Your Mod is like a perfect recreation of the creature in the game for Minecraft. Good work.

INCREDIBLE mod. I actually have no idea how to put into words just how well done this is. Zero clue how you pulled off the voice mimic aspect?? My only criticism would be that the child giggles are unnecessary/don’t fit with the theme and break immersion a smidge. Otherwise?? Seriously amazing, dude
Simple enough, have mic permissions constantly on, and then let a voice recognition script trigger an RNG that determines if the last thing you said will be played back.

I still want a horror mod that has the monster be more of a curious creature than a hunter, getting closer and closer to you, observing what you do, maybe its hostility depends on an invisible morality system, like making houses for Villagers makes it more passive, or killing Villagers makes it more aggressive
