Fun Facts: Choi AKA Mas Oyama (which was his adopted japanese name) was a real person, the Korean born founder and grandmaster of the Kyokushin Karate style. The whole thing with him travelling all around Japan, challenging and beating all the martial arts masters did really happen. His teachings influenced Bruce Lee, who was a huge admirer of him and he´s also the inspiration for Ryu from the Street Fighter games.
This story is so inspiring because you can feel it is true and his wisdom comes across! A great man is he who is humble. Power without justice leads to revolts . Justice without power is meaningless
I can still hear him in the street trying to entice customers. "Pachinko! Pachinko!!!" Truly an excellent film. I would even recommend it to folks who don't typically watch action/fighting movies. The book that Bum-Soo gives Choi in the beginning is "The Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi. The books is not only about Martial Arts and Swordsmanship but also philosophy as well and is fantastic in and of itself!
This is one of my favorite movies. I was already well versed in Shotokan. I always knew of Kyokushin but could never find a real teacher. I finally did and practice even now. This movie was beautiful.
You are so right. When I really became skilled I was already strong. I started lifting at 12. It gives you a sense of invincibility. In truth no one is. I balanced my aggression with religion. Studying all. Even mythology, which was a people's religion when they were alive. I have OCD so if I get in to something I go all in.
@@soorajtr6692 very true. Kalari deserves to be on top. Another form 'Adimurai' is the missing link between Kalari & kungfu. There is a catch though. Kalari and adimurai lost its true form ages ago. They became a sport - around the 18th century period and now they became a recreational, display art. Skilled people in kalari and adimurai tend to develop good fitness but they also lose ability to take really powerful hits. In contrast, Kungfu got derived into many forms of real time hand to hand combat skill, that literally turns an individual into "tanks". They can starve, get hit, and still keep moving. I wish some desi guy or eastern or western guy uses kalari or adimurai in some MMA fighting tournaments.
I just jaw dropped after finding out that he is the founder of the very martial art I’ve studied my whole life. I’m in shock I was thinking “huh that’s funny” when he was with the bull then they confirmed it and I’m just shook.
I remember seeing the trailer to this movie on a 1995 VHS movie called "The Blade". Back when there was trailers right before movies! I used to watch movies with my grandpa and we saw this one together. He passed away in 2007 from lung cancer. I miss him.
When I saw him fight the bull, straight away I said this film must have been about Mas Oyama! Dude was no joke, probably a stronger/better martial artist than Bruce Lee, but doesn't get his recognition.
Good movie I really enjoyed it it’s a Reality in true life , the guy Didn’t take advantage when he could’ve kill his opponent and taken advantage of his broken leg .Instead he let him live , And for that, His enemies respected him , he did what the widow told him to do if your going to be a martial artist to be the best and do it for the good of the people. He went on to be the best martial arts fighter and became a teacher of martial Artist and well respected ,good message for people that are in to Martial arts ,Boxing, wrestling , and etc .
this movie teaches you is whats powerful then a super power is not giving up leadership friend ship and alway working hard and stay strong and the most powerfuls is in your heart your will to fight

Not to forget the inspiration behind the character of Orochi Doppo from the Grappler Baki series
He said that in the video
Choi was breaking stereotypes and Bruce did the same
Shinichi Chiba played an Excellent Mastatsu Oyama in an early version

Kyokushin is definitely the best form of Karate. The sad part is, the curriculum/training changes an athlete's intrinsic kind nature forever!

Before it was so cracked now it’s so dogshit, went from practical to impractical
I really loved the friendship between Chun-Bae and Bae-Dal. I wonder if Mas Oyama really did have a best friend like that
He is very humble man
the book he wrote is just amazing!
He never gives up
True karate students understand the importance of self control, character and etiquette 🙏
