    Awesome mate. Only way to do it in a day is being at the bottom before it gets light. You have bigger balls then me. Was a shaking mess after the last really exposed bit leading up to the summit. The bolts are a new addition. Great vid

    Great footage Ant. Approach shoes for the win! Think I'll take a short rope etc for the exposed sections when I tackle it.

      Yeah Approach shoes are all that's needed IMO. Have fun!

    I wish I had a head for these sorts of climbs. There is so much that I am missing out on.

    That was an awesome climb, I swam too it, 2 years ago in Feb, with a 2$ blow up ball from K-mart and then took the wrong path (trappers route), had to back-track on Sinbad River and start climbing steep moss using trees as stepping platforms for 2-300meters, until i got to the ridge and joined the track. I got to end of tree line and made myself a straw bed as I only had jacket and t-shirt and shorts and was 9pm. I then proceeded as the following day was perfect. The scariest bit is the grass section above the tree line as it is slippery and you get above some cliff bands. Once you hit the solid rock, it is grippy and easy. It is nowhere near as bad as it looks on the videos IMO. On the other hand trying to get up Mt Sefton looked way scarier, than your video shows. When i got back down it was 5pm and I couldn't retrace my ball, so had to use empty drink bottle as buoyancy device. There was a swell at this time, although at first looked intimidating, helped me get back to mainland, stopping and resting on rocks 4 times on the way back. It was a good job I didn't know there were sharks in there until afterwards, or so people have told me eeeek!!!

      Sounds like a wickid adventure! I would love to try and climb this when I go back to New Zealand without ropes but part of me think I'm a bit crazy for attempting, does look scary steep with lots of vertical drops for a lot of it.
      I've scrambled up many mountains in Wales without ropes solo but NZ is like Wales on steroids.

    Thanks for sharing. Got in mind to do Mitre this summer. Do you have Strava? Just after a few more details.

    • @antstead
      @antstead  2 роки тому +1

      Strava or any other track recording won't help much, esp you tried to follow our track, we got off 'track' a number of times. Just follow the ridge, up and down. It will be an adventure. :)

      I'm a keen amateur mountaineer and really enjoy your vids for inspiration and infomation that can be gleaned for different climbs, thanks:)
      I was actually hoping to follow you on a fitness tracking app, as your pace and fitness level seems to be the most realistic of the NZ UA-camrs...especially compared to the likes of Alistair McDowell

    Interesting to see that there are rap rings. Were they just at the crux or pretty common in the higher parts of the scramble?

    As a certified experienced mountain guide the peak is both class 2 and sections are 3 ie major injury and death possible. Parts of it require rope protection and climbing shoes NOT trail running shoes. Death is a possible consequence of slipping on some extreme sections

      As demonstrated by previous deaths, from falls here.

    Mitre peak is aways interesting, it's a pity that you filmed more of your self rather than the scenery, and the natural sound would be good too, not the music.
    How ever thank for your video.
