This not just a technical train video for train heads, but a high quality production that captures the beauty of the area as well. Your drone piloting skills are obviously top notch. You have clearly been flying it first person, and beyond line of sight, which is incredibly tricky when the drone is going both with and against the train. Bravo! Incredible video!!
The longest Australian goods train was the BHP Billiton Iron Ore Train, which was 7.352 kilometres (4.57 miles) long and weighed 99,734 tons: It happened: on June 21, 2001, the train travelled 275 kilometres (170.88 miles) from the Newman and Yandi mines to Port Hedland, Western Australia. The train consisted of 682 ore cars and was hauled by eight diesel-electric locomotives. It was able to transport 82,000 tons of iron ore. A single driver controlled the train. Normal BHP Billiton Iron Ore trains can be up to 2.8 kilometres (1.7 miles) long, with typically 268 cars, and can weigh 43,000 tonnes
Sure seems so. Is it all that expensive and cost ineffective to add a couple more locomotives in the middle? Anyone know? (of course, there will be railroaders out there who know).
Great video. Awesome train. All of that screeching of flanges on the curved rail is causing significant slowing of the train. Those locomotives are working very hard.
Also, to mention how well the soundtrack is mixed. Living in Hawai'i means I can only enjoy the big trains on video and this is one of the best I've seen. Great job!
Fantastic drone video. Much more interesting than watching four engines then 100 cars from the side. I watch trains at Ordway (Mile Marker 548) most mornings. The "Z" trains pass that grade crossing with five engines forward and two DP's in the middle. Estimated speed is 30 to 35 MPH. They must be in a real hurry to get somewhere.
Welcome back to Southern California really enjoyed your Donner pass footage. The radio chatter is always interesting and the dispatch was right Mt. Vernon and Loma Linda are like a half a mile if not less apart but i guess rules are rules and its good to hear they are abiding by them. Those EMD;s are making this possible 4 locos with that much weight is impressive. Nice Blue shirt ROB hahaha. Thanks again for the wonderful catch.
@CalebA-sv2kw haha thank you very much Caleb! 😎🔵 Very true, and I'll have more EMD action later! And yea i miss donner, i could probably stay up there and not come down, lol
@@CalebA-sv2kw Yes, but intermodal trains are not heavy when compared to a unit train or a manifest train. The length of these intermodal trains adds rolling resistance and they make communication between the locomotive and EOT problematic. So DPU's placed mid-train assist in overcoming the resistance that the length creates, and they act as a repeater for communication between the head and rear ends of the train.
Beautifully done for us non-railroad technical people. I wish there was a way you could explain to us what they’re talking about between each other on the radios.

thanks for the capture! at 2:35 mark, dd you fly your drone over engine exhaust? I wouldn't think you could do that with the heat, but what do I know? at 6:00 the white area in back, is that from a mud slide? thanks
@joebidenbites1015 thank you!😎🫡 Yes, I do try and avoid the engine exhaust, but it gets tricky. As for the white area, I do believe it's a small dry river bed. 💧
EMDs 645s or710s V 20 s sounds like . Saw a loco a week ago U.P.nnorth of Tucson over 4 miles of cars with multiple DPUs double stacked . Damnest bunch of cars I’ve ever seen on one train . 4,400 hp each loco . All those trees eatin the CO2 really green
Vegas is saying no to the A’s moving as they firmly believe they can stay in Oakland but Fisher had already done the damage and Sac will be waiting for the move.
@@CalebA-sv2kw those are on the dirt from a derailment. I have no idea when. You can tell they're kinda tore up, I'll have to make a video getting a closer look 📹
Total of four locomotives for a 3 mile train going up a 1.8 degree grade. Under powered, needs at least two or three more locomotives. I think those trains are too long anyway, a mile Max should be it.
@@Greatdome99 Not talking about going faster, I’m talking about not enough locomotives so the 3 mile train doesn’t stall and needing more locomotives so each locomotive is less strained and more dynamic braking.

Four engines seem to be handling all that tonnage very well.
Nope. Just right. The bean counters dictate power and speed versus customer expectations.
