  • Here's the completion of my setup of the Oasis Lead Shot Maker, my coolant system setup and the results of my first batch of lead shot! I apologize for the orientation of my video(s); apparently holding an iphone vertically isn't a good idea for video production!
    In this video, I'm only using two double-drippers for this trial run; the #7.5 shot size were installed here, and as you can tell in the video, it's an exciting success for me!!
    Please let me know if you have any question or comments.

      Hello Mr Adam, my son is in trapshooting and I decided to make Shot to cut the cost. I have my system I’m trying to get it going but I’m having an issue. My pump is not circulating well and it’s creating a lot of foam. What is your best suggestion? I heard on your video you did a aquaponics pump. I am trying and searching on the Internet to look for the same pump. But no luck. When you can pease let me know. Thank you!

    You hit the nail on the head when you stated "Screw paying Two buck a pound for this crap" I have bought the Magma engineering D&R shot maker. It has a heat control unit built into it so you can adjust your heat setting. I like the bilge pump idea to recirculate your coolant, that's pretty smart. I will probably set up my rig the same way. as of now I still have to get al the stuff, the shot collection tank and coolant overflow tank and a necessary height stand for the unit to set on. I plan on making shot for trap shooting and I'm new to shotgun sports, I need a shot maker to save money so I can practice enough to get proficient. The price of shot is outrageous. and for what,, Lead B.B's? anyway good video dude. Dave.

      Thor's Axe Dave, thank you so much for the comment. I’m sorry I missed it coming in 3 weeks ago!! I’m honored to have gained your attention; I’ve enjoyed your videos and community contributions. So yes, it’s horrible paying so much for lead BBs, lol, on principle I spent $500+ to make my own to save $2/pound; but considering I shoot a box of shells (25oz) per shooting day; I’m hoping I live long enough to shoot $500 worth ROFL. I then started out searching for lead sources (Tire shops). Of course I kept stuffing 1lb ingots into the ladle, then later was shocked to find 7 lbs of shot; lol production fail! :)

      I have made about 250 pounds so far of #8 and I'll be good for a while.. hehehe.. I do like the capability of shotmaking at home because it does save you big time over buying it. These machines would be used best as for a group of people who get together and make their shot for shooting sports. Maybe even a gun club if people wouldn't fight over it. or someone keeps it a secret and carts it away, that has happened to our gun club where assets of the club have been found in peoples garages and nobody knew about it. a couple of guys get the power to buy it and sneak it off someplace like the cub never had it. Enough about that. I shoot twice a week if I can and this is definitely a boon to my reloading assets. well, thank's for watching dude. Dave.

    Great video, thank you. I am thinking about it, just getting into shotgun reloading and wow the shot price is crazy! I have a extra RCBS lead pot and I may use it to pre melt the lead and let it flow into the shot maker. I know every time you put in a cold ingot it cools entire pool and could stop the flow. This is a great idea!

      HI William, congratulations on the decision to get a shot maker, and to help your son shoot more by reducing ammunition costs!! What you describe about foam in the coolant (fabric softener) was something I experienced also. I diluted my liquid by adding a small percentage of water; 10% by volume to start. So if your coolant tank consists of 5 Gallons of softener, try adding 1/2 gallon of water to dilute the mixture - You may have better results. As far as the aquaponics pump, this is just any ordinary aquarium pump; I believe the one I showed was a 15gallon/hour pump, pretty small but does the job. You should be able to find this at any local pet store that sells fish aquarium equipment -- or perhaps the easier route is to shop Amazon/Online for an aquarium pump of the same volume/hr. :) Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Pretty cool, and he's made all the mistake in making one. I decided for the cost it was just as reasonable to start with someone else's base model (found for under $400) and go from there. • @arizadam12
      @arizadam12  2 роки тому

      Hi Jim, I haven't yet tried to see how fast I can produce the shot, but the only thing holding me back would be how fast the element can melt the lead. I've seen guys pre-heat the lead and then run that through the ladle, but honestly the real restriction is how fast you can get the lead through the drippers. I'd guesstimate that 20 lbs per hours is probably doable. You know us reloaders have no concept of time well spent though lol

      I use Downey fabric softener; you could use water, but you really want to have something less likely to cause a steam explosion from having molten (700 degree) metal so close to it. The oily nature of fabric softer isn't going to have as low a boiling/steam point as straight water. Plus it has a pleasant smell when you're handling the finished product, and it rinses off clean, as opposed to something more oily which would need detergents to wash off. I hope that's helpful information for you.

      Lead typically melts well at 600-700 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course if your lead isn't completely pure; meaning it has other elements in it; you could be affected adversely. For instance, make sure you don't have any mystery metals; like Zinc within your melting material. Good Luck, Mariano.
