    Can you please explain the following:
    If Snowflake is using underlying storage and compute engine, how is it different from any other cloud data warehouses like Redshift/Synapse ?

    • @DataEngineering
      @DataEngineering  2 роки тому +2

      Snowflake is SaaS tool and Redshift/Synapse they are Paas tools.. so in snowflake, you don't have to know how data is stored and and what type of compute it is used.. and this need to be selected in Redshift/Synapase... you need to plan infra in them.. but in snowflake is true elastic... you just declare it.. and it will work...
      Redshift is a wrapper on the top of postgres and Synapse is using SQL server or Spark... so a developer need to know too much to make thing happens.. but in snowflake.. it is true service.. so you don't need to worry...
      I hope, at high level..this clarify... there are lot about them.. but can not write everything here..

    At 24:06 you are mentioning full ACID compliance but recommended OLAP only, not OLTP. That is a very strong limitation. So where does it come from ?

    • @DataEngineering
      @DataEngineering  10 місяців тому +2

      Snowflake does not support constraints and single row update is very expensive and slow.. and that's why not suitable for OLTP workload.

    Just have one doubt regarding one of the quiz question
    Which one best describes the snowflake architecture ,in the quiz you mentioned 'shared data' but in the slide 30:55 you mentioned 'shared disk & share nothing' can you clarify this?

    • @DataEngineering
      @DataEngineering  2 роки тому +3

      Hi @Akshay Dwivedi, thank you 🙏 for watching my video and sharing your query.
      If you look into Hadoop eco system, data is shared across all the compute (same here in snowflake) but compute is shared from same cluster, however in snowflake compute is not shared between two workload and that's why it is called shared disk and shared nothing (compute has a different isolated cluster and it is not a shared cluster unlike Hadoop). I hope this clarifies.

    Query execution in Compute layer and query compilation in cloud Service layer - can you please explain the difference in the two processes?

    • @DataEngineering
      @DataEngineering  Рік тому +1

      When you submit a query to snowflake, it first parse the query and check if all the objects (like tables or views or functions) exist or not and the user has issued the query having necessary privilege to run it.. and this process does not need virtual warehouse and this step is done by the cloud service layer. Once all looks good, the query is submited to VWH for execution.
      I hope, this clarifies. Do let me know if you need more input.

      Never thought of it, but a good suggestion.
      Since snowflake is so broad, need to think what is generally asked and where candidate should focus. Can you share some direciton?

    It would be great if the data model was covered here, it almost seems like the tool is doing everything and not following some kind of structure that a data model will provide in creating the physical design. At leat I would like to see that.

    Introduction and architecture are not explained for newbies to data engineering. There are many terms which are just written. Could not understand what it means.

    • @DataEngineering
      @DataEngineering  11 місяців тому

      sorry.. they are not power points.. my contents are available in my blog pages and my medium pages .. the content what you see is hard to share.. due to its big size and rich media type (not-ppt)..
      I recently started sharing my content via udemy as it allows me to share the resources/code/ppt etc..and yes, I know many of us are not fully aware of snowpark Python API, if you want to manage snowflake more programatically.. you can watch my paid contents (data + code available) .. many folks don't know the power of snowpark... these 2 videos... will help you to broaden your knowledge..
      These contents are available in discounted price for limited time.. (one for JSON and one for CSV).. it can automatically create DDL and DML and also run copy command...

    Answers to QUIZ question 9 are incomplete, should include point E also:
    "The cloud services layer
    If Snowflake detects that an availability zone has become unavailable, the cloud services layer can reprovision the impacted virtual warehouse in a different zone and restart queries that have been in process to ensure that they complete successfully."

      you may load data and delete them in same day.... so at the end of the month..when storage cost is calculated.. it is done based on avg cost of the store.. and all data is stored in compressed format..

      OLTP needs RDBMS and snowflake can not enforce relationships, referential integrity as well as many contraints... that's why it is called Cloud Data Warehouse and not cloud RDBMS... hope this clarifies..
