    The 996 designer was a genius and way ahead. The Le Mans racing style is stunningly beautiful.

    I agree 100% with your impression of the early 996s
    It’s definitely the best bargain in a sports car today.
    And the 1999 is the lightest and most analog water cooled 911.
    And I’m glad I bought one while they’re still cheap.👍

      I’m glad I got one now as well, otherwise I’m sure I would be paying quite a premium. It is probably going to be something like the 911 SC. Before I bought my previous 986 Boxster I got close to pulling the trigger on a 911 SC that was $18,000. It ended up selling before I decided to buy it and just today I saw one for sale for $50K. That may be an ambitious price, but they have been fetching higher and higher prices.

    Cool video, fun to watch!
    I have a 98 model year C2 3.4 Tiptronic too. I will say to anyone who knocks a tiptronic, drive one with a properly rebuilt box - it will completely change your opinion. Most of them on the road right now are high mileage slushboxes with worn valve bodies and clutch packs! I daily drive mine too, the auto is definitely far nicer overall. You can heel and toe with the cable throttle tiptronics too. Dont' know if this is the case on the later ones..
    If it was just a toy however.. I would rather a manual haha!

      Glad you enjoyed the video.
      Good point about most not driving one that has been rebuilt. Even without a rebuild if properly maintained and given an Italian tune up they are pretty good. Certainly, not as bad as they are made out to be and I used to be someone that wouldn’t touch one. Had it not been for knee issues I would probably not have considered the Tiptronic. But now I can drive it for long periods of time even in traffic and still be able to walk without issues the next day.

      Sounds like you have a great car. I almost bought an article grey example before I found this car, but apparently I like black Porsches (since my previous 986 Boxster was black).

    I just bought the 3.4 manual 996, the one with the cable operated throttle - amazing car. Seriously quick cross country with a beautifully rev-hungry motor, I personally think it’s more fun than the 3.6.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 роки тому

      Can’t agree more. The 3.6 is a great car, but I personally prefer the rev happiness of the 3.4.

      You wanna be able to redline a motor, feel that satisfying kick, hear it sing, and not be doing 140 MPH at the end of it. The 3.4 is perfect for that.

    Eh it sorta always has torque vectoring. If that’s a 99 with TC (not PSM) then it has ABD (active braking differential) enabled at all times regardless of if the TC is off. If you get the rear of the car to out of control you’ll see the active warning triangle still flashing despite the TC off light next to it.

    • @OurRideLife

      Thanks for sharing that. Yes, this is a ‘99 and it has TC and not PSM.

    Looking into a 2000 c2. How are they at high mileage? The one in question has 80k miles

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  2 роки тому

      Mine has about 104K miles on it now and for the two years I’ve owned it, the experience has been almost completely trouble free. A few weeks ago the water pump started to make a ticking sound, but just finished replacing it and all is running well again.
      I hope that helps.

    If given the choice, would you buy the 997.1 or the 996?

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 роки тому

      Good question. I almost bought a 997.1 before finding this 996. The 997.1 has a better interior and most prefer the external styling, but I do prefer the way the 3.4 drives, especially with the cable driven throttle body. I also didn’t pay much for this car. With the 997.1 that I got close to buying I was going to be paying about $30K, but this 996 was only $12,500 for a well maintained car with under 100K miles and a clean title. Some of that is the Tiptronic and that the 997.1 was a manual car, but that is still quite a price gap and makes it easy should a rebuild of the engine be needed in the future. Hope that answers the question.

      For the Yosemite region of the PCA the name is a little misleading as most of the membership are in the Stockton or Modesto area. Yosemite just sounds better than the something like the Modesto region.

    Why did you buy a tiptronic?

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 роки тому +1

      Probably missed it, but I cover it very quickly in the video. I have knee issues and after owning three manual Porsches and not being able to bend my knee for days after driving them I finally had to make the change. Since I use it as my daily driver it is a bigger issue, although I have thought about adding a manual for weekends so I could have occasional fun, but not have constant knee issues.

    As a fan of cars, and professional racer, i bought it with manual. Its the man thing, not the gay thing, even if they´re considered man.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  2 роки тому

      I’m a big fan of the manual driving experience and my first three Porsches were all manuals. I tend to daily drive my Porsches and due to knee issues I switched to a Tiptronic.

  • @mortenberg2897

    I really don’t understand how anyone can choose the tiptronic. I drove it - and it does NOT fit this sportscars feel ....

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 роки тому

      I totally understand and had that same mindset before I got this one.
      As I mentioned in the video knee issues forced me away from a manual. My previous three Porsches had been manual cars and the driving experience is much more sporting. However, since I use my Porsches as daily drivers the fact that my knee would tighten up to the point I could barely walk forced me down the automatic path. I am thinking of getting a manual for weekend use as it wouldn’t put as much strain on my knees, especially since I wouldn’t plan to drive it in traffic.
      One thing I forgot to mention was that some of these Tiptronic cars need an Italian tuneup. They remember the driver’s driving style, so if the previous driver didn’t push it then it won’t be aggressive with its shifting. Still not quite the same as a clutch, but performs a bit better.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 роки тому +1

      I hear you. My previous three Porsches were all manual and the driving experience is definitely more involving. I ended up going the Tiptronic route due to knee issues that were being made worse by driving a clutch daily in traffic. I would often find it difficult to walk as my knee would not bend without a lot of pain. After the switch the issues have been greatly improved.
      Of course I do miss rowing my own from time to time, so I am considering buying another car with a manual gearbox for weekend drives that shouldn’t cause as much issue as the daily drive.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
