I served in the Norwegian armed forces, all the way up north, at the russian/finnish border. Coming from south of Norway, i was not very used to that intense cold. Sure, it gets cold where i was born, but up north it becomes a new level of cold. I remember - 25 degrees, and when you spit, the spit would literally freeze before hitting the ground.
British army used to have one ready arctic warfare infantry battalion and a logistics Battalion based at Bulford as part of the now disbanded NATO Ace Mobile force (AMF) the UK element of the NATO quick reaction force spent up to nearly 2 months in Norway training , one fact that has now changed was you could not have NATO forces permanently based in Norway and at that time their were not a lot of Norwegian bases , the UK government had to hire hotels up in the mountain areas near VOSS that would serve as bases for each company and logistic unit , note the Royal Marines had a training team of arctic warfare specialists attached , and every second year the UK element would go North to the Bardufoss region for a major AMF exercise.

Seeing this in the current day should be a wake up call for all members of NATO that simply being harmless does not ensure peace. What if a large nuclear strike wiped out the United States or the UK? What then? What would Europe do at that point?
You mean the Coalition Air Campaign against isis, which wasnt a Nato operation per se , but was largely Nato countries , and that air campaign supported the Iraqi army to smash the so called caliphate in Iraq . Or ISAF in Afghanistan, which supported and fought alongside US and Afghan forces , and training Afghan forces.. and the talibn never did take a major city there ,and has now sued for peace, signed a peace deal, with the US . Or the Gulf of Aden anti piracy mission of about 10 yrs ,or even 5 yrs ago, when Western and other tankers and cargo ships were being hijacked off the horn of Africa,..that's now ended largely ,due to Nato and EU and other nations having deployed ships there and protected commercial traffic .

Cold Response is another of Federal USA / NATO poking the Russian bear. Napoleon's army and Hitler's Army were defeated. NATO thinks it can win against Russia. NATO launches war of aggression against Russia will result in a long overdue Revolution in the West. NATO cant even beat small countries ie Syria because of the cheap and effective Russian military equipment and it's very well trained military. NATO overspend on military equipment that doesnt work or is too small for the soldiers, pilots to fit inside. F35 kills pilots over a certain height who eject from the paperweight.
There are plenty of times when winter camouflage is shown. Not only that, wearing just white does not make you invisible. The multi terrain camo that most soldiers are wearing would be effective in Norway, as its shade is brighter and Norway isn't just snow. There are trees and other wildlife that multi terrain camo blends in with. Plus Norway has a Summer, Spring and Autumn, not Winter all year round.
Wrong, most NATO partners operating or training in the North have cold weather clothing and camo articles suitable for Norway. But, as nowadays you are even very visible in the best camo available the accent for camo is changing to cloaking body heat.
