Originally a part of Nippon Animation's Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics series, this anime version of the story was brought to us in English by Saban. phelous.com / phelous
Actually considering this was made in the 80's should it be consider a ripoff? It's more of a another adaptation of an already establish story albeit not a particularly special one.
The anime is actually based on a Brother Grimm fairy tale called "The Summer and Winter Garden". It was pretty much a watered down version of The Beauty and the Beast (many of the plot points the anime glosses over, were also glossed over in the story), which is why the Grimm Brothers decided to remove the tle fro their book from the second edition onward.
Actually...to be fair Maria and the beast have more believable chemistry than any other of the Beauty And the Beast knock off couples. Even if its only on screen for maybe less than 10 minutes.
Personally, I don't think this one version was that bad. It's definitely the best one he's looked at so far. It showed their relationship grow over time, and it kept the more stylized fairy-tale style of storytelling (the quick pace, the narration, etc) and so its quirks seem to fit much better than in the other, longer versions (save for the Disney one, of course).
Well, the series, in general, was decent. I remember really liking some of their versions of the tales. I really liked the one about a goblin witch in the woods and Snow White. I also liked Cinderella. It was sweet and updated for a modern audience with the prince recognizing her by face. I say a modern audience because the story does make sense in a historical setting(candlelight, clothing and make-up, her shoes being made to-an-inch her size since there were no standardized mass production sizes). and this Beauty and the Beast is kinda nice with the sisters not being total jerks like they are in a lot of other stories. The animation is also better than Golden Films and Good Times. It has this nostalgic anime style you find in Sailor Moon or Inuyasha.
the english dub ruined this, i'm pretty sure that opening song wasn't in the original japanese dub, also they might have added stuff like the narrator and such, also seing how it was rescored, it's likely the original score was leagues better, kinda like DBZ. (and since this is the composer of the OCEAN dub and not Falcouner, i can say that without causing a Kikuchi vs Falcouner flame war)
Since you want more versions of this story to give special meaning to the rose... I want to see a version where the Beast breeds and cultivates flowers, and he finally has the PERFECT rose to show in the upcoming competition, and that's why he's mad when Beauty's father takes it!
That's pretty much a plot-point in the live action Dennis the Menace mpvie from 1994, of all things. Mr Wilson is the guy with the perfect flower and Dennis is the one that fucks it up.
StarlightPrism In one of short Witcher stories, he meets this world's equivalent of the Beast, and he actually had many daughters stay at his pallace and grew close to them, because he heard true love's kiss would break his curse. Unfortunetly it didn't work, but the ladies had some fun and were very into his beasty appearence. The roses was just the pretext. In the end a monster vampire thingy, who came a lot to meet with him, turned out to be the one to truly love him, even though she pretty much slaughtered everything else, but she did give him a kiss after he impaled her to save Geralt. True love can sometimes be fucked up.
1:45 - I only found out recently, but it was technically adapted from 'The Winter Rose', which is the Brother Grimm's version of Beauty and The Beast, and it does feature things that were shown in the anime, such as the garden being half covered in snow, while the other was warm and green, beast actually coming to take beauty by force, beauty's father dying, and beauty's sisters not being mean. I known this is an old video, but I thought it would be nice clear up some things.

That reverse color piano is a Harpsichord. This Beast probably wanted to do something to set himself apart from the other Beasts, so he bought the Harpsichord to stand out.
Oh man, I loved Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics when I was a kid. I think it was my first real exposure to anime, haha. Nickelodeon had quite a few english dubbed Japanese cartoons back in the 80's. :) Thanks for reviewing it!
Jaymz Bernard same i found these anime adaptation to be my favorite versions just because I liked anime because of them the Disney version was good but these will always have a place in my childhood
Can someone please explain why in every Beauty and the Beast story, the Beast has to have a bitch fit over a rose? At least the Disney version gave us a reason why the rose was important. Anything from the original story?
I think that in the original story, the roses all represented the amount of days left in Beast's life. So whenever one was picked, it would shorten his life by a day. You'd think that they could take two seconds to mention this in the movies though.
Yeah that one too, though I can imagine when the subject of a daughter comes up and the person doesn't have any the beast is like " oh, never mind then. Be on your way" 😅
Actually, it's the other way around. The younger they look, the older they are. Look at Jotaro Kujo for example, when he was in high school, he looks like he's 30..when part 6 rolls around and his daughter is like in her late teens to early 20's...he looked like he's in high school.
Only verbally. He at least tried to keep the beast away from her, and didn't try to guilt her into dying for him like Old Man did. Plus Maria's dad didn't vandalize anything other than one rose.
In all fairness, he's actually better than Old Man and the G2 version. He didn't trespass the house, didn't steal food, didn't open an exchange offer of his daughter to save his ass, and he did put a fight against the Beast when he tried to enter their house. ....well, except for the dildo.
13:22 "Reverse-color-key piano"? It's actually a _harpsichord_. Most harpsichords have swapped key colors, and the sounds they make are quite different from pianos because the strings are plucked rather than struck. You can even hear it if you listen to the scene in question. (Cue the "The More You Know" rainbow)
Believe it or not, Brothers Grimm DID work on a variant of Beauty and the Beast from part of their collection called "The Winter and Summer Garden" where the youngest daughter asks for a rose in the middle of winter and finds one in a garden that's half eternal winter and half eternal summer. After making the deal with the Beast, he doesn't tell his daughters about anything that happened. 8 days later, the Beast appears and takes the youngest daughter away. When she returns home, her father is ill as she can't save him, which he dies. She stays longer for her dad's funeral and when she returns to see Beast, he's buried beneath a heap of cabbages. (Sounds familiar?) This tale was in the Brothers Grimm's collection's first addition in 1812. But because the story was too similar to it's original French story, they omitted it from later editions.
I love that this was played as an elaborate prank war between Maria and her father. They are stone cold! "Maria knew that even though her father was no longer here, that somewhere he knew that she had gotten the final laugh." Lmao
You know, I never understood how in the Disney classic Belle acted like the Beast was a hideous monster while actually he looked kind of majestic. But here..? Fuck if I were 'Maria' I would've jumped out of a window by now.
3:25 That screen is so nostalgic. Brings me back to when I was a kid and watching my Thomas VHS tapes. Video Treasures released a lot of Thomas tapes in the mid-late 90's. BTW, this narrator sounds rather like John Baddeley, but I doubt it is.
I'm always surprised how much background information Phelous can pull out of even the most obscure films. It's honestly impressive and very interesting.
Maria?..... but the beast was looking for Mary. Have you seen her? -Didn't you say she died? Oh yea... three years ago. But he got a letter from her! Said she was waiting....
Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics use to air on Nick Jr. back in the day, which I used to watch as a kid in the late 80s & early 90s! Would love to see Phelous review more of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics!
That is sweet. Very cute style. It shows their relationship growing. Having her be called Maria is good. It doesn't pile on the angst as much as some, with nasty family. That's a good version. Don't worry on the age part. She's adult. It's older anime. They didn't do that wierd age thing in the 1980s as much or at all. The women looked the age they were or close.

Great video. In case you wondered: the reverse color piano is actually an harpsichord. Pianos were only invented in the 1700's, so they wouldn't exist during the time period the story was set in.
Oh my goodness, I can't stop laughing! I adore Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics and Beauty and the Beast, so I was super excited when I saw the thumbnail for this review. This review is priceless!
15:10 Actually, in my experience, it's more often the other way around. the amount of anime girls I've seen that look like they're 10, but are actually like, 500 year old vampires, or a witch or some such... xD
Saban went from producing shows like this, to dubbing anime like digimon or producing power rangers, to now being credited as a studio that's producing live action movies like The Stand-In
That old Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics intro is so nostalgic..! I used to watch that show all the time when I was a kid! That narrator, too, I always loved his voice! Phelous, you're so awesome! I hope you will take a look at more of the GFTC episodes, they get pretty epic!
So Maria can turn things to dust... what a weird power I think Anime age is that a person who is older appears younger than usual... not the opposite. She might be 20 something for all I care.
A very decent rendition of the fairy tale, in all fairness. Loads better than all the other version Phelous has reviewed. At least, it's pleasant to look at thanks to the artstyle.
Omg, this is such a blast from the past! "Grimm's Fairytale Classics" was a staple of my childhood. I've tried to track the series down since then, but have not had much luck. The fact that you were able to acquire this gives me hope. I wonder if the entire anthology is available somewhere??
I just happened upon this VHS at a Goodwill so I'm not sure how many got a release like this. From what I can tell there was a Volume 1 of some of these episodes put on DVD over here but they never made a vol 2. They might have come out in the UK though.
Same here! I remember this episode vividly from my childhood, how funny to find the review here. There are actually quite a few episodes of the show uploaded to UA-cam. Just type in 'Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics' and you'll find a bunch of them! :)
I...I think the beast in this was voiced by Dan Woren, because while he's in monster form he sounds uncannily like Zen-Aku from Power Rangers Wild Force. But in his human form he sounds like Caster from Fate/Zero. I...I can't _prove_ it's Dan Woren since there's apparently not a cast list for this movie. But it would track since Dan Woren did work on other Saban shows. Such as more than one season of Power Rangers.
1:18 Nippon animation also did the animation for Around the World with Willy Fog, which also had the same narrator, Theodore Lehmann as well as Cam Clarke doing the most terrible French accent you'd ever hear.
Old Man is such a hypocrite. Maria's dad might say violent things (in Phelous's version) but at least he never actually tried to manipulate/ pressure her to sacrifice herself for him like Old Man did. Maria's dad tried to keep the Beast away from her, and sans stealing the rose he didn't do anything close to as obnoxious as what Old Man did in the castle.
This definitely takes me back to early anime on Nickelodeon. I actually like the look of this beast, having him wear the hood makes him even more unsettling. And it makes sense that he'd try to hide his face. Disney's Beast had a great voice actor, but the look was never scary.
Me too although not my first anime. That would be 1975's "Ringing Bell" (Chirin no suzu). It's good watch even today, but it is super depressing. It follows the 'no happy endings in anime' semi-trope.
I actually liked this version tbh, I grew up with this. Here in South America (or at least in my country) 'Grimm's Fairy tale classics' is a TV show every weekend the kids watch in public channels.
4:27... They live in an IHOP? 4:42... "Buy me a beautiful dress", "Buy me shoes, be sure to get the latest style, because we're sick of cosplaying as pilgrims!" 11:53... "The poor Beast was sad." Um, WTF, plummy-voiced narrator guy?!?! By all means, reserve your sympathy for the jerk who forcibly took a girl from her home all because of a rose! Let's just ignore the poor girl who is beside herself with fear and grief! You suck, Narrator Guy! 12:04... "He was startled by his own hideous reflection." So the Beast had a preternatural ability to avoid reflective surfaces? 13:28... "Maria felt so much happiness, that she forgot all about the Beast's repulsive looks, but I'm not going to let you, the viewers, forget, for I am Narrator Guy, and I'm the worst!" 17:50... And with the power of love, the Beast turned back into a Cossack. 19:14... At least the sisters didn't turn into statues like in other versions. 19:21... Snarking aside, that shot is actually quite lovely. I remember the show "Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics" from my childhood, and it was fun to hear Phelous's take on it. Really, it's probably the best version he's reviewed so far in terms of animation quality and the relationship between the titular characters (at least we see their romance really develop, not like Gaspy McAirhead and Warthog/Goomba Hybrid).
I love Grimm's Fairytale Classics! I watched them a bunch as a kid, and have been rewatching them on UA-cam. I like the anime vibe, and that they bring to light a lot of more obscure fairy tales. I quite enjoyed watching Old Man interact with Beard Father in this episode. And when you did the Dingo Hunchback style zooming face on Maria, it completely took me by surprise - I laughed for a full minute. Thanks for the great episode!
gotta say, not a bad adaptation. I give it a 6/10 sorry, but Disney will always get a 10/10..granted, it is one of my favs but still As for those other two you reviewed, they were cringy as hell. Especially the one with the three ghost tards.
The three ghosts one blew my mind in how weird it got. The classic Goodtimes version is bad, but I can't hate it, if only because its so amusing it how bad it is, plus we got OLD MAN! For me the worst version would ironically be the Disney DTV sequels, in particular the third one. That crap is neither entertaining in a good or bad way, its just painful to sit through. And it lasts like 90 minutes.
AT Productions Yeah they are not adaptations, but they are without question the worst thing to carry the name. I'm not fully sure what the worst adaptation would be, probably that tween garbage film with one of the Olson Twins a few years back. That thing is a mess.
TheLegendaryBlackBeastOf Aaagh Completely agreed, it knew what worked, and what needed to be changed. It added new characters that felt like they were always there, and the classic ones were updated with so much character they felt like actual people. I hate the word masterclass, but it's what it was. It completely earned that Best Picture nomination, and I am so glad to see its still popular 25 years later.
Agreed, Disney took good care of this adaption, and didn't snort crack while making it like the one with the three ghost. But tell me, I am use to the Bell, her dad, most hated Disney Villain, and the living inanimate objects. It that the original story line, or is the beautiful sister, with obnoxious sisters the original story line? And lastly, the Olsen Twins are in one? I..I don't even wanna know how the hell it plays out.
The blonde sister sounds like Usagi from the first English adaption of Sailor Moon. Also I watched this on UA-cam and the original for it is The Summer and Winter garden I think. Reply if you saw it or if you didn't you can still reply. So lonely. I kid. Sobs in corner.
God I love the narrator in this. It's like he really needs to piss so he's doing his lines as fast as he possibly can, it comes off as extremely rushed but fucking hilarious at the same time.
As usual I continue to highly appreciate and enjoy all of your BATB reviews! Very well done! I’m a big fan of anime. The cover design for the Beast sure is super cool! If they actually used that design, it would have improved the movie by about 20%!
Oh god. the Grimm's Fairytale Classics theme song. hearing just a few notes of it played here in this review really hit me in the nostalgia ballsack... you don't even know man!

Isnt that only for cloth?
EvilThorn The spices are wet! They're completely useless now... My daughters stood under the rain and got all wet! They're completely useless now...
Isn't the earth filled with water? The world is completely useless now..
*Tosses them onto trash pile*
The Universe is completely useless now...
That reverse color piano is a Harpsichord. This Beast probably wanted to do something to set himself apart from the other Beasts, so he bought the Harpsichord to stand out.
I love Old Man. He will never get old to me. :-)
He's completely useless now!
+Rustydog9000!Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I miss his Pastas though. :(
Holy shit, Old Man has freakin standards!
I hope his standards don't get wet, or else they'll be completely useless now.
(air rimshot)
He he heeeeeeeeeeeeee!
This was really a great version and her dad actually fought for his daughter
TheDeadCobra Agreed unlike...Old man.......heeeeeeeeeeee
I love Phelous' interpretation of the relationship between Maria and her father. That just cracked me up!
"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." - Beauty and the Red Green
Nope!
No reason!
I think that in the original story, the roses all represented the amount of days left in Beast's life. So whenever one was picked, it would shorten his life by a day. You'd think that they could take two seconds to mention this in the movies though.
I just gathered he was a territorial/over protective arsehole lol
Not sure about the original, but many tales imply he was just looking for an excuse to get a girl in his castle who could break the spell
Yeah that one too, though I can imagine when the subject of a daughter comes up and the person doesn't have any the beast is like " oh, never mind then. Be on your way" 😅
17:19 - The moral of the story is never let your window open during a east cost winter storm, kids.
Hey, TFD! I didn't know you were a fan of Phelous =)
Nah I've been following and liking his horror reviews before all this. He just got my attention more when he began trashing knockoff cartoons. ;)
Same here, man.
OLD MAN WINS, FATALITY!!!! HUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
tiiiiime traaaaavel
1TrulyMad đ7đ
Akiyata...
Actually, it's the other way around. The younger they look, the older they are. Look at Jotaro Kujo for example, when he was in high school, he looks like he's 30..when part 6 rolls around and his daughter is like in her late teens to early 20's...he looked like he's in high school.
You have got to be kidding me. 0_o
Araki style changed over the years. I prefer Stardust Crusaders Jotaro style but oh well.
Maria's father is worse than Old Man!
Daeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Only verbally. He at least tried to keep the beast away from her, and didn't try to guilt her into dying for him like Old Man did. Plus Maria's dad didn't vandalize anything other than one rose.
TheLegendaryBlackBeastOf Aaagh I mean Phelous' version.
But is he worse then Senior Moustache?
In all fairness, he's actually better than Old Man and the G2 version. He didn't trespass the house, didn't steal food, didn't open an exchange offer of his daughter to save his ass, and he did put a fight against the Beast when he tried to enter their house.
....well, except for the dildo.
I very recently discovered your stuff & have been marathoning through everything you've ever done on UA-cam, your content is fantastic man!!
Thanks!
+Phelan “Phelous” Porteous ANIME!!!
+Phelan “Phelous” Porteous also good work. you have my blessing
Who else wants Phelous to somehow get an interview with the Old Man VA?
This is one of the better ones you’ve reviewed since it actually tried to to build up devolpmemt with the beast and Maria.
I mean... the art style is beautiful. At least in this regard, it's better than the other adaptations.
Ah so at least you mentioned it 😜
Believe it or not, Brothers Grimm DID work on a variant of Beauty and the Beast from part of their collection called "The Winter and Summer Garden" where the youngest daughter asks for a rose in the middle of winter and finds one in a garden that's half eternal winter and half eternal summer. (Sounds familiar?)
This tale was in the Brothers Grimm's collection's first addition in 1812. But because the story was too similar to it's original French story, they omitted it from later editions.
I can't believe the beast from xmen got his own anime....
Fascinating.
I love that this was played as an elaborate prank war between Maria and her father. They are stone cold!
"Maria knew that even though her father was no longer here, that somewhere he knew that she had gotten the final laugh." Lmao
The narrator sounds like he drank a crap ton of caffeinated coffee before reading his lines. He talks so damn fast in this! XD
Blurr would be proud
The Shadow jokes are killing me.
Also the beast looks like the Grimace.
You know, I never understood how in the Disney classic Belle acted like the Beast was a hideous monster while actually he looked kind of majestic. But here..? Fuck if I were 'Maria' I would've jumped out of a window by now.
Disney was going for a scary appearance rather than an ugly one.
At least Disney's version of the beast looks more beastly. This one on the other hand looks like a demon.
A DEMONIC BEAST!
This beast looks like an ogre.
When the AVGN's Bullshit Man gets his own anime
Holy hell it does look like Bullshit Man, your right!
Beauty and the Bullshit
"Please, I just wanted to get a rose for my daughter..."
"THAT'S BULLSHIT!"
You know what's bullshit? When you just want to get a flower for your daughter, and some jackass tries to kill you!
Sir/Madam, you made my night. 10000 Holy Beers to you!
The Hebrew meaning of the name Maria is "bitter" The Latin meaning is "Virgin"
So the name Maria literally means "bitter virgin". LMAO.
So... the average Fortnite player or TikTok user then?
Lol. That manga name.
Maria: is sad.
Everything within a 2 mile radius: I don't feel so good.
I'm always surprised how much background information Phelous can pull out of even the most obscure films. It's honestly impressive and very interesting.
"Reversed colored piano" AKA Harpsichord
Maria?..... but the beast was looking for Mary.
Have you seen her?
-Didn't you say she died?
Oh yea... three years ago. But he got a letter from her! Said she was waiting....
The "Maria" thing looks quite fitting if you see the Beast as a bootleg version of Shadow The Hedgehog.
Someone slowly poisoning their father until they die?
I think Dio approves Phelous
((Wishes so hard that Dingo made a "Beauty and the Beast")))
Oh gosh no please...I'd HATE to imagine a Beauty and the Beast 'film' by Dingo pictures. Thankfully, it never happened, but still!
Which would be uglier the beauty or the beast?
No contest they'd all be hidious
sure. why the damn hell not?!
Let's launch a kickstarter to fund Dingo to produce one!!! I'm sure they won't need much!!! I'll toss money in!!!
I love these old Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics episodes.
I could see a Beauty and the Beast anime actually working if they got Mamoru Hosoda to direct.
That comment aged like a fine wine.
Look at Belle.
The Beast looks like a Pokemon..
A Gastly/Ursaring fusion.
Or a Sableye pumped up on Steroids.
TheArceusftw That too actually.
I'm gonna catch it!
I'll use rock smash!
Five years later this show get a Bluray release love this episode
The beast's voice reminds me of a voice that keeps showing up in Dingo Pictures. That guy who plays the villains, typically.
Yeah I thought so😅
Then phelous should still be worried since Maria looks 13.
@@fightingmedialounge519 people can look younger than they actually are. Please move on 😅
You have failed to actually understand my comment or the top comment by repeating that she looks 13. People can look younger than they really are. Accept it and MOVE ON
@@gracekim1998 That's irrelevant to the original comment, and maybe you shoud take your own advice
@@fightingmedialounge519 zip it troll. You clearly can’t read because it is relevant 🤦♀️ just stop commenting altogether, you’re ANNOYING. You’re a hypocrite 😑 I’m convinced you’re blind to not notice the OBVIOUS 😬

god you are so STUPID 🤦♀️
Please leave the Internet. You’re a terrible person and a condescending’teacher’ who sucks at their job
15:10 Actually, in my experience, it's more often the other way around. the amount of anime girls I've seen that look like they're 10, but are actually like, 500 year old vampires, or a witch or some such... xD
"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
or funny. A funny dude appearance rate increases with it.
This is one of the better cartoons reviewed by Phelous. It doesn't drag out like some other cartoons and the animators did a great job.
After 2 weeks without a computer I was like: Damn, now I wanna watch some Phelous. And there it is.
Indeed
my fave was the puss in boots one XD
No one is omitted from a terrible anime adaptation like GASTON!!
No one was invented for the Cocteau film and then repeated in later films like Gaston!
So Maria can turn things to dust... what a weird power
I think Anime age is that a person who is older appears younger than usual... not the opposite. She might be 20 something for all I care.
It goes both ways just depends on the show
Lord DIO Oh... Let's just rely on source material then... How old was the Beauty anyway?
Timothy Gauker doesn’t this take place in the renaissance? Was there an age limit back then?
"You're the worst Beauty's father ever!"
"Maria!"
"Who cares!!!"
LOL XD
A very decent rendition of the fairy tale, in all fairness. Loads better than all the other version Phelous has reviewed. At least, it's pleasant to look at thanks to the artstyle.
I actually really like the song at the beginning. I guess it just feels nostalgic even though I haven't seen this in my childhood.
Saban/Levy music is classic. 👌
Phelan, notice me!
Thanks for the info! I will have to look into that DVD compilation. Too bad the full series wasn't released, but I'll take what I can get, lol.
If you have a video downloader/converter, you can download episodes of this show from UA-cam. Also you can import the original Japanese versions.
Same here! I remember this episode vividly from my childhood, how funny to find the review here. There are actually quite a few episodes of the show uploaded to UA-cam. Just type in 'Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics' and you'll find a bunch of them! :)
I like the opening scene at least. Looks like the love story between a very large Black Mage and a White Mage
The more stupid animations Phelous reviews, the more material he gets to use for the next. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
1980s anime has its special charme to it.
I actually used to watch Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics all the time as a kid. Technically, it was my very first anime.
Me too although not my first anime. That would be 1975's "Ringing Bell" (Chirin no suzu). It's good watch even today, but it is super depressing. It follows the 'no happy endings in anime' semi-trope.
Same and one where they time traveled to Biblical times. I ain’t joking about the latter one.
These Saban voices bring back so much nostalgia, haha
Mark Sauvie Saban voices also worked on Transformers: Car Robots - Robots In Disguise.
I actually liked this version tbh, I grew up with this. Here in South America (or at least in my country) 'Grimm's Fairy tale classics' is a TV show every weekend the kids watch in public channels.
The one thing I'll give this adaptation is that is has nice animation to look at.
Phelous reviewing bad cartoons and doing old man impersonation... this is my happy zone :)
4:27... They live in an IHOP?
4:42... "Buy me a beautiful dress", "Buy me shoes, be sure to get the latest style, because we're sick of cosplaying as pilgrims!"
13:28... "Maria felt so much happiness, that she forgot all about the Beast's repulsive looks, but I'm not going to let you, the viewers, forget, for I am Narrator Guy, and I'm the worst!"
I give it a 6/10
sorry, but Disney will always get a 10/10..granted, it is one of my favs but still
As for those other two you reviewed, they were cringy as hell.
This was one fairy tale that Disney vastly improved on in so many ways. Agree, 10/10 for Disney's version.
AT Productions
Yeah they are not adaptations, but they are without question the worst thing to carry the name. I'm not fully sure what the worst adaptation would be, probably that tween garbage film with one of the Olson Twins a few years back. That thing is a mess.
TheLegendaryBlackBeastOf Aaagh
Completely agreed, it knew what worked, and what needed to be changed.
Phelous now has more Beauty & the Beast reviews than Horror reviews ^^
God I love the narrator in this. It's like he really needs to piss so he's doing his lines as fast as he possibly can, it comes off as extremely rushed but fucking hilarious at the same time.
As usual I continue to highly appreciate and enjoy all of your BATB reviews! Very well done! I’m a big fan of anime. The cover design for the Beast sure is super cool! If they actually used that design, it would have improved the movie by about 20%!
Will you ever do the Disney kind-of-sequel to Beauty and the Beast with the evil pipe organ voiced by Tim Curry ?
Oh my word, that reminds me that there is a Russian version of Beauty and the Beast and Tim Curry voices the Beast!
Brooke Smith That would be the ultimate lead up to his review of the kind-of-sequel climax. o-o
This comment has nothing to do with your comment, but I freaking love your profile picture and user name
The Anime Obsessor If that's directed to me... Thank you?
Lord Ghirahim
Yeah, I meant you XD
Oh god. the Grimm's Fairytale Classics theme song.
hearing just a few notes of it played here in this review really hit me in the nostalgia ballsack... you don't even know man!
I have to say, this version of the Beast is my favorite out of all the ones in the Beauty and the Beasts you've reviewed. He's hilarious.
