It's kind of sad that Alex Chilton gets interviewed by people who have absolutely no clue at all about the other great stuff he did later in his career... Imagine someone interviewing Marvin Gaye about his early days as a Motown session drummer, without knowing that he'd gone on to make his own albums....
I guess the irony here is that there are now plenty of latterday Big Star fans who have no idea Alex sang "The Letter"? Nice clip, Alex seems like a charming guy...
@steve89z -I think his personal style was different to what he did (very briefly) for the Box Tops, even his tunes in Big Star after Chris Bell left were different - His solo career was lo-fi fuzzed out swaggery rock'n'roll with a touch of folk and he is quoted as saying he is most proud of his production work with The Cramps - I think although he never had a hit like with 'The Letter' he did things on his own terms and he was happy with that y'know?
the thing i don't get why no more hits or a killler career? they had one more hit.i was 13 in 1967 and played this song to death at linwood luncheonette linwood nj my 7th grade hangout! fountain soda, burgers, shakes, and the jukebox! owned by a cop! sergeant rudy reeves!
I was blessed to have played drums for Alex at 1st ave in Mpls in 1985.
What a pair of pins!!!
I love love love Alex Chilton, he gives me the lovey feeling when I listen to his music
Not a single mention of one of the greatest Pop Rock bands made it into the story.

If he'd had health insurance, he might still be with us. RIP
Alex Chiton did a helluva lot more than The Box Tops. Big Star. His solo work. His production of The Cramps. Cool find, though.
sometimes I think that one of the pleasantest experiences of my life was meeting and chatting with Alex Chilton because he was so sweet
@mozo2112 Agreed. I hope more people discover what an incredible & original artist Alex was...I'm truly saddened by his death.
neon rainbow also a good song.

I loved this! I thought Alex was a black soul singer. We all did! Xxx
When I use to hear this song on the radio as a kid I would've bet anything this was a mature black guy and not a white teenager.
Why didn't they mention Soul Deep. That I think was their best hit.
