2020 Jeep Diesel Walk Around for Overlanding | Towing Patriot Camper X3

- Come join me for a walk around of our 2020 Jeep Rubicon EcoDiesel overland vehicle in it's beginning stages. We use it to tow our Patriot Camper X3 camper trailer but we wanted showcase a couple modifications that we've done to the Jeep and couple things we've noticed when towing the Patriot Camper. Remember this Jeep is still our daily vehicle so it's not a dedicated overland vehicle type build but hopefully you will still find some value in the information provided and shown.

As a video nerd it was the gopro mount that most interested me. One of these days we need to pick up a gopro and a mount for our adventures. I think my Gopro is a Hero 3+ and I haven't used it for years. Great video David!
A Hero 3+ is what I had before as well before I picked up the 9. I also picked up a pretty good suction mount for the GoPro that can be used on the outside or inside of a vehicle or really anywhere with a flat enough surface.
Converting everything though to those manfrotto quick disconnect mounts was a great investment. I have those on my tripod, handheld vlog tripod, inside the jeep, etc which make moving my GH5 and GoPro so much easier with less hassle.

I own a JL, my rear camera is in center of the tire camera, I am curios if that wheel mount would move it up also. Been looking at the same camper, wasn’t aware of the hitch issue. Will be watching too see how you fix that.
Did you find a solution to your hitch woes? Looks like you may be able to invert your current hitch or run a straight tang to get the clearance you require.
I swapped my stock tire carrier out with the Terraflex one and it got me half of the way there. I can now clear the actual DO35 hitch but it won't clear the trailer towbar when connected so it's going to have to do for now. The biggest thing is I no longer have to take the actual hitch off just to open my tailgate which was the biggest aggravation so it's an acceptable compromise for me.

Yes! I've been eyeing some auxiliary lighting on the A-pillar and/or the front bumper like a Heretic Studio Amber light bar.
@@NoLimitsOverland Amber for sure. I have some white and some amber. But, I seem to always go for the amber lights.
Awesome setup. What MPG do you get towing the Patriot camper with the diesel JL? How does it tow?
Thanks Derek! The MPG towing can vary widely depending on type of traveling and terrain but on the highway just normal towing I can get around 20-22 MPG and actually taking it off-roading around 15-18 MPG. The camper tows extremely well due to it's independent air bag suspension and the fact it's running the same size tires as on my Jeep.

Thanks for the walk through. Why did you go with the ceramic coating vs paint protection film or a vinyl wrap? Are you happy with it so far?
Thanks for watching. I've actually had PPF installed on top of ceramic coating on a previous car I owned (only on the front) and decided against PPF on the Jeep due to cost and not really worrying about rock chips since it sits up high. Previous car was a sports car so it sat low and was definitely susceptible to rock chips way more than a Jeep is. I'm very happy with the ceramic coating so far.
@@NoLimitsOverland thanks. Will be interested to see how the ceramic holds up. Having the same debate now, was leaning toward vinyl wrap to help protect from pinstripes.
