We're David and Christy, doing this overlanding thing with a 2020 Jeep Rubicon Diesel and a Patriot Camper X3 wanting to share our adventures and leave this place better than we found it. First Overland Adventure With My Dad | PATRIOT CAMPER X3 Pack Down
Watch as I do a pack down of the Patriot Camper X3. I was blessed to have the chance to take my Dad on his first weekend overlanding adventure on the Georgia Traverse trail. The trip didn't end exactly how I would have wanted but we had a great time nevertheless and made some memories. It was his first time camping again since 2014 due to health reasons so it was great being able to take him out again using the Patriot Camper X3 and hit some off-road trails.
We took a two day trip on the Georgia Traverse trail and met some people that recognized the Patriot Camper and chatted with others that wondered what kind of camper we were towing. We had a great time despite some challenges along the way.

Maybe somebody will find the gopro and be able to return it. That really got to me. My dad passed before I ever had money to do the things in doing now. At least we got to go wheeling in my non-modified Jeep one last time. It's good to see you and your dad spending time together

It looks like a fantastic trailer and a great idea. Where I live we have way too much wind to try to deal with an outdoor kitchen. However in a different region of the United States and maybe one that's a little bit warmer. This would be an excellent choice for a person warning some adventure in their life.

Hey thanks for the kind words. The Dometic fridge did come with the trailer at no additional cost at the time when we bought it but things could have changed since then so best to verify.

Really enjoyed the video, nice to see some real life experience with the trailer. I was wondering how much time does it take to open it up for sleep and fold it back down. As our traveling style is less a base camp style and more of camping each night at a different location.
Really trikes the presentation of the X3, we been looking at the X3 for the last couple months we noticed there only seam to be one dealer in the US and it’s in Oklahoma, is this where you purchased your trailer or this there another source?

Any new experiences since this one? we're looking at the X3 and curious how it's been six months later if you've had much more adventures with it.
Hey, unfortunately due to some personal unexpected medical issues and some family priorities that needed to be take care of, we haven't been able to go on any adventures or shoot any videos. However, that will soon change and just because we haven't been able to go on any "adventures" doesn't mean we haven't used it for other purposes and have lots of feedback, good and bad, to provide. @@NoLimitsOverland Sorry to hear that, no worries, was just looking for US based experiences and anything like warranty issues with there only being the dealer in OK was wondering how that'd work out, only about an 1100 mile trip to see the dealer for me :)

Looking to order a Patriot X series. How much was the X3 with the options you received?
Prices have been changing due to current events and market demands so I would contact Exploration Outfitters, the USA dealer, to get an accurate and updated quote on the X3 with the options you'd want.
Is there a way to add an air conditioner to a X3. I would only need one to run a couple hours before bedtime if the inside temperature is over 75. Thanks
You could custom config something but you would be required to be on shore power or run a generator just like any other travel trailer that has one installed and the goal for this trailer is really to be off the grid and not require those things. Not sure honestly where you would mount it and most likely would need a small one like a Dometic CoolCat or something. With this type of trailer though I wouldn't recommend it as it would add extra weight and would lose additional storage capacity depending on how you would rig it. I'm like you and need to sleep cool so what I run is a swamp cooler like the Transcool E3 that you can put cold water/ice in it and it blows cold air on you. Also, because canvas has great breathability properties in addition to all the windows you have for cross breath ventilation, I haven't had a problem yet not sleeping at a comfortable temperature. Hope that helps.
Did the Teraflex tire carrier solve your clearance issue with the hitch?!
It got me half way there 😂. The tailgate can fully clear the DO35 hitch when the trailer isn’t hooked up now but it still can’t clear the trailers towbar fully. It’s not obviously what I was hoping for but being able to at least clear the hitch is good enough for me for now. The alternatives are invest in a much more expensive tire swing away arm system or lift the jeep since I’m stock currently.

Did your internal table and compartments above the fridge and coffee machine come with the silver bubble metal finish matching the exterior kitchen table? or did you do this after delivery?
It came that way from the factory with that stainless steel top. The X3 model when it was first released didn’t have that on top of the internal table but they’ve since changed that.

Are the food storage areas bear proof?
That’s the worst feeling ever I’m sure. I have the suction cup for mine, but I tether it incase that suction cup fails. Were you using the GoPro app, and tracking feature?
How well does your Jeep pull it? Did you regear the Jeep and if so to what gears? Wife has a JKU with 5.38 gears and a little nervous about being able to pull it.
The Jeep pulls it very well but I have a diesel with lots of low end torque so didn’t have to regear it. Have you watched my jeep overview video where I talk more in depth of this?
3:73 is a higher gear ratio than 4:10....
Glad you got to spend all that time together. Someday someone will find that & it may be a blessing for them, restoring a lost/broken relationship. Nice vid though, it’s probably in your Jeep. Hope you do find it though.
Did you find a solution to your hitch woes? Looks like you may be able to invert your current hitch or run a straight tang to get the clearance you require.
I swapped my stock tire carrier out with the Terraflex one and it got me half of the way there. I can now clear the actual DO35 hitch but it won't clear the trailer towbar when connected so it's going to have to do for now. The biggest thing is I no longer have to take the actual hitch off just to open my tailgate which was the biggest aggravation so it's an acceptable compromise for me.
Loved your video guys! Actually an excellent review! Well done. We're down in New Zealand and really liking the look of these campers. My question to you is: How do you find the diesel Jeep tows the X3? I'm due for a Jeep upgrade and find the diesel very appealing. Have only just learned of the Patriot X3 campers (which wifey loves the look of) so this might be a great option for us. Thanks, Bruce

Awesome setup. What MPG do you get towing the Patriot camper with the diesel JL? How does it tow?
Thanks Derek! The MPG towing can vary widely depending on type of traveling and terrain but on the highway just normal towing I can get around 20-22 MPG and actually taking it off-roading around 15-18 MPG. The camper tows extremely well due to it's independent air bag suspension and the fact it's running the same size tires as on my Jeep.

Pretty cool but for 55k not worth it at all.
Hoping you guys are getting opportunity to hit the trails more now that you are entering warmer weather. You must have a very early build X3? All the others I've seen came with the shock cord 'bungees' to collapse the tent built into the canvas, with a little storage pouch. Also not many around with the Rimex s/steel top on the two access hatches, most have the black powder coat finish.
I own a JL, my rear camera is in center of the tire camera, I am curios if that wheel mount would move it up also. Been looking at the same camper, wasn’t aware of the hitch issue. Will be watching too see how you fix that.
