Wow, Andrew. Good that you found a way for "Chord explode". I think Cubase team should bring "chord explode" in their next Cubase 14 update. It is really helpful.
Andrew, Killer! This was as exciting to watch as an overtime Super Bowl. Unbelievable (given where we all were post the previous explode for 13 and then the new drop 14, sans the same technique) in terms of turnaround to solve this problem. much appreciation.
Thanks a really useful lesson. I knew there must be a catch when Steinberg so dramatically improved the score editor! Thanks to you I now have a Logical Preset to cover it.
Your vids are always so good. Great info on the explode. And I’d run into the bug you mention where my logical editor presets would only work consistently when I ran them from the window. Thought it was my code. Now I know how to fix them! Sweet!
What you are doing is writing for SATB using automatic voice leading in a basic way should be able to print a score for that. Pretty awesome tutorial thanks Andrew.
Great video, thank you. I thought you could use the function "MIDI --> dissolve parts" to achieve this result but that does not work for separating voices of chords so I learned something new, thanks :) I suggest to add "Chord track: Assign voice to notes" (or similar, I'm on the German version) to your macro. That way you don't even need to have a chord track set up and you don't need to activate the follow chord track function.
Thank you a million times for this video! You definitely earned a sub. I can't believe we no longer have Explode Chords as an option and I really hope they bring it back. I'm having one issue that's driving me nuts. This only seems to work if you have the chords in the chord track - and when I add the chords it immediately mutes all the midi notes in my region THEN changes the voicing! Is there any way around this so that it doesn't alter the voicing?! Thanks!
I wonder why Steinberg got rid of the explosion function. I didn't even know it was there:) I imagine they are programming something better or similar for the future. Hopefully we'll see it again in Cubase 15. Still the best update since I've been in the Cubase world.
Andrew, Will watch it later . Will see what the project conversion Ableton to Bitwig to Cubase 14 will result in. It is nice to loop clips in ableton and bring them in arrangement view .
Very useful video, thanks! I suppose it's just a matter of time before Cubase can follow Baroque style voice leading rules as well along with various user options... Like voice leading quantize.
When you press F11 for your macro and it doesn't work. It's usually the on-screen keyboard that is the problem. (For me anyway). Even though it's not open. I have to click Alt+k then Alt+k again to close it. It seems to fix the bug.
Can you set it up to put the midi for the “exploded” tracks on existing tracks underneath the one that you are running the key command on? Like the “orchestrate” feature in studio one’s harmony wizard add on? I’m also trying to create a macro to create “strums” for midi guitar.
hi dfhm,,, I havent tried to go that far, although there may be a way. My current workflow to do that kind of operation, I have sections of my orchestra already created in a template so when I explode the tracks like this it is very easy to just drag them down into the premade tracks. On the other hand Something you may explore,, Cubase 14 now lets you move tracks that you have selected up or down with key commands,, that could be a quick fix for you as well... andrew
Very frustrating, I created the macro and the only thing that happened was the project logical editor opened. When I created the preset and applied it worked. Once macro was created, no success. Just the editor would open. I do have chord set for voicing. Have you also experienced problems with consistency using the macro?
hi mic,, once I followed the steps exactly I have had no issue since,, what I recommend for you is experiment with just one voice in the PLE,, alto or tenor ect,, no macro, and see if you can successfully execute moving that one voice out of the chords onto its own track, if you can, analyze from there, if you cant,, re examine your equation thoroughly,,, also make sure your MIDI event is selected and highlighted before you execute, if its not,, thats what will cause the PLE window to open with nothing else happening,,,
@ thanks for the response. I also added duplicate selected track at the beginning, and at the end of the routine I added delete selected track. That allowed me to keep the original track in case I wanted to go back to it and change something. I'll try to learn how to rename each track, for example violin one Viola cello and bass. Thanks again for this routine.
I took a course on the website. I will advise everyone. But there is still little information for me, I want to learn more about Halion. more about sharing with other DAWs. what is possible and what is not
I will wait till Cubase 15. Nothing here vaguely useful for anyone that is not synth based disco dance. I do not use drum machines and synths, if I did they all have most of what is put in this update, Ok the score is useful to some, when I did mess with Cubase Drum fingy it just drove me to use Steven Slate that was way better and easier to use. I then sacked that and learned to play drums. This update is just what can we do to make some more money out one section of users, they should have put other things in to suite all users.
I’m coming from Logic Pro to Cubase 14 just because of the score editor. It’s extremely intuitive and is perfect for making charts for my band to play. It’s amazing to be able to make scores in one program instead of having to start in a DAW and export to notation software.
Exceptional tutorial...been using Cubase for 20 years and have learned something
I always learn something new. That "chords to midi" technique is so useful! Thank you so much!
why
@@shapourdashtpour63 I use it to break it out into a string section
A scholarly piece of useful teaching - well done and thank you.
Thank You !!!
Clearly fantastic ! Thank you for the time you used to make this video ! Greetings drom Belgium ^^

Great video tip. Thank you, will set up today.
As usual, Andrew, top stuff!! 😁

Great video, explained well. Thanks
I wonder why they removed it 😮 great video
WOW WOW WOW ...!!! LOL...Thank you for the Info..!!
Thanks a Lot, very usefull for me😊

@ apreciate the response.🙏🏻
Any suggestion for strums without manually “slicing” each chord?
On m y side, I've created a nice Logical Editor script that explodes chords the way I need.
I'm not using the voices, but the position of the notes in the chords. That way, I can deal with chords with different numbers of notes.

Killer Feature for killer musicians … IRONIE OFF
Chord option in Inspector are missing..(?) Any ideas?
hi xavier,, rt click in an empty area of the inspector and make sure the option for chords is checked,,, andrew
uh, why did they remove it in the first place?
indeed,, david,,
The MIDI Pad went backrupt with Cubase Pro.
