@@Exit854 I didn't have to install any cores. Just works like a GBC. Also, go for the cheap aliexpress GB Pro + multicart as the Everdrive has had issues with the first version of the FPGBC. Plus it's easy to update the firmware with that multicart
@@Exit854 The Analogue Pocket is a little more expensive but is waaaaaaay more powerful. IMO, just buy the Analogue Pocket. The Analogue Pocket Plays GBC, and Game Boy Advance games out the box without any downloads or adapters. If you actually download the other Cores for the Analogue Pocket, you will be able to play everything from the 2D era including Arcade games. The Analogue Pocket is an absolute Beast of a handheld that plays 2D era games nearly perfect with perfect timing. The delayed timing and glitches ruins regular emulation consoles.
I own an Analogue Pocket and its easily the Best Retro Console I own, and I own a bunch of them. The main reason for that is the FPGA Tech behind it but also the quality of the product and screen. FPGA Technology allows for near perfect emulation without the glitches and delayed timing associated with regular software emulation. The Analogue Pocket can Play Arcade games, pretty much anything from the 2D 16-Bit era and everything older nearly perfectly. For people who actually played those games, the best part is the perfect timing of the Game Play and sounds.
The best thing about the Analogue Pocket is that it's based on FPGA. Since each core is reverse engineered, you get cores that is extremely close to owning the original hardware. It's so cool to be able to play all of those 8-16 Bit systems including handhelds we grew up with back in the day. The screen size and resolution is just awesome on this machine. The fact that you can dock the unit like the Switch, takes it too the next level. Another thing that i love about the Analogue Pocket, is that they release a lot of Arcade games for it that never was released on consoles at all. Nice comparison video :)
Perfect timing; I just got back into GB stuff after grabbing an Analogue Pocket (next drop is on the 10th of May, for those who have been waiting); always nice seeing the original hardware and all the customization options we have nowadays! Subbed!
Great video. I love both my original Gameboys as well as my Analogue Pocket. It‘s great to pick whatever I‘m in the mood for to play my cartridges on or to play ROMs of unobtainable games like Shantae. BTW, I got into cartridges AFTER buying an Analogue Pocket😆
This was a good video. Lately ive been interested in expanding my Gameboy collection. I never had one growing up. My brother did. I had the Game Gear. But even now, as an adult, I think they are still fun to play and you cant beat the nostalgia vibes that comes along with it. :)
Glad you think so! ❤️ Yeah I totally agree, I didn't play much growing up but I always loved a few select platformers with their cute little bit tune music
I’d love to have the old gameboy colors, or repair my original grey brick. The better value for playing is the analogue pocket yet if you prefer those old feels and nostalgia, I can see that original GN being the better buy
I finally bought an Analogue Pocket because I've had poor luck with Gameboys, I have a couple DMGs with backlights, a GBC and a GBA. I screwed up a front-light installation on the GBA and none of the others will read any of the three flashcarts I have. It's a bit expensive but cheaper than all that stuff I've already bought.
I'm watching your video and playing with my analogue pocket. Best purchase. I paid around 300 dollars shipped and taxes to México city. I also got the dock later. I use my everdrive GB but also roms on the SD card. You should get a dock! And talk about the openfpga cores! Nice.
I am lucky enough to still have my DMG GameBoy from when I was a kid. The screen started going out on it though, so I recently modded it to have a backlit screen that I can change the palette and brightness. I love that thing and was happy to bring it back to life.
I have a different array of handhelds, from gameboy to these modern cheap Chinese emulators.. My pocket is by far more superior, Im always picking that out from the others. With open FPGA you can play up to SNES, which is brilliant! Fingers crossed the devs of these cores will sort out save states as in the future 🤞 Great video, you just gained another sub 😊

Quite happy with my FPGBC. The price is competitive even compared to used gameboys in good condition, and the screen looks pretty good. I mean, until the SP came out, we all wanted a gameboy with a backlight and a modern display, and that's just what it is nothing more, nothing less.
I would want the analog pocket because the only does it have a significantly better screen than the original game boy it’s also compatible with GameBoy advance games as well. Great video.

I bought the gamecube gameboy player few years back and it's great way to play if you can find them and prepared to pay the price though not portable there's plenty of ways to modify the system
The analogue pocket looks nice and has some great features, but its at least double the price and possibly more compared to a refurbished or even screen modded gameboy on e-bay.
I can’t wait to resell my analogue pocket. The screen looks good and all but it got delivered slightly damaged in my mail box and the system’s ergonomics are quite terrible
I have my original gb modded with the ips screen and it's still comfortable to play. The gameboy Light is probably the best though, that's a very ergonomic handheld. I wish Analogue had based their design on that so I didnt get cramped palms after 15 min of play.
The Analogue pocket would've been perfect if it had better form factor and no scalpers exist. Just grab one of those Anbernic, Retroid and AYN devices. Even an FPGBC is also good given it's higher availability.
Coming from my experience…. Roll with the Analogue Pocket, it is so versatile. Better console/screen, plays physical cartridges, dock to TV, and open to the fpga universe.
from the technological point of view the Analogue Pocket is really great, but the ergonomics are catastrophic! So, I prefer original modded DMG, GBC or GBA(SP) with better screens. I just ordered an FPGBC and I'm very curious about it.
Getting through this without commenting was hard lol. Mostly because my answer to this same question was different. But good to know every other comment is worth a heart except mine. Not sure what that means but I don't care! Have a nice day anyways. Also: You totally can use save states on real hardware... with the flash cart.
Analogue Pocket all the way... but it is an investment. I have an Analouge Pocket, GB, GBC, GBA, GameCubes with GBA Players. GB, GBC, and GBA all have IPS screens from FunnyPlaying. There is no replacement screen that will give you that authentic DMG look that the AP can. DMG on the AP looks AWESOME and better than any emulator I've used. If you want the best TV out for GB/GBC/GBA games vs. the GameCube, get an AP and the dock. While docked the link port is not accessible so if you want to use any feature that a GBA and GameCube w/ GBA Player can do, you're out of luck with just the AP. However, if you want to have almost perfect emulation of all games from almost every cart based game system, from the Atari 2600, to the NES, NeoGeo, PC-Engine/TG-16, etc. including PCE/TG-CD the AP is the obvious choice. Add the proper cores and ROMS and its like having any of thoes systems with HDMI and an Everdrive. I was thinking of getting an NES, Everdrive and HDMI mod but the AP is cheaper. I do still use my GBA with my GameCube so I use the EZ-Flash Omega DE and Junior flash carts for playing GBA, GB and GBC games on all systems. As for controller options, I have two of everything, all 8bitdo SNES, PCE, Sega M30, NeoGeo gamepads for each occasion. All use 2.4GHz for the least lag as possible (I might have gone overboard)
Paid $90 for a pink see thru Gameboy Advance. It came with a light, a pink gummy bezel thing to prevent scratching, a (non working) pink rechargeable battery back, a pink car charger, and something else.
