I am so sad to see some of the most wonderful things going without greater views and acclaim. Debussy is a world treasure and I hope that many more people will explore this stuff, especially with great and beautiful recordings such as this.
Thanks so much for posting it!

I have 29 superb recordings of this. Still the best, Mr. Boulez with the Cleveland masters. Such a GREAT orquestra!!!

@William oh yes, such a masterpiece. Fritz Reiner/Chicago Orchestra on RCA is another absolute TOP. Anything from Reiner and Chicago.

Then listen to the Jean Martinon, if you don't already know it. The Boulez is wonderful but the Martinon is so muscular and powerful- it leaves every other performance for dead.

Bought this CD (as well as the other Boulez Debussy one that came out at the same time) and listened to it EVERY DAY that summer!

No performance is as interesting and intriguing and captivating as the performance of La Mer
La Mer is unrivaled by any other sea music

Other than Ansermet, I can't recall any other conductor of Boulez's stature that had a background in mathematics. I would be very interested to know what they thought of each other, for obvious reasons.

Grande version.
