A French conductor who totally relates to Debussy’s impressionism. National ethos does make a difference when it comes to best musical performances.
A reminder of how much I loved this performance. 1970's, recording when in the pre-digital days when recording engineers didn't do funny stuff just because they had some technology easy to abuse.
This is truly the majestic, solemn and wild scenery of the Debussy‘s sea . The sea of Japan is nothing short of amazing From A corner of Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun🇯🇵
Beautiful, with a graceful movement like the waves... and probably more historically informed than other conductors who like their Debussy slow and misty
I hear this is a benchmark recording of the work. I think you can't beat homegrown artists to capture the atmosphere of this most French of composers...
I had this on vinyl before I sold off all my LP's before a move. I miss it even though I have since gotten CD performances by Munch, Reiner, and Ansermet. All great, but not Martinon, who got it even better.
David Hurwitz sent me here; how right he is about this incredibly good performance!
Me too
Moi aussi.
Ich auch
Dave Hurwitz brought me here too! It's a superb performance.
I came from "Dave."
I love the sumptuousness, wildness, and deep poetry of Martinon's La Mer. It's absolutely gorgeous and the best interpretation I've ever heard.

inolvidable registro
Unsurpassed. Really stunning
Wow,!!! ...an absolutely thrilling performance. Martinon was a great conductor, especially of the French masters, and is far too little well known.
Beautiful! Thank you!
this is a wonderful set of recordings by Jean Martinon that i look forward to uploading in the following week(s)
@@cgoroo That will be great!
thank you so much for the post! One of the best here.
