When I was 6 and my brother was 8, we were outside playing. Two people in the garden caught my eye, it was a Male and Female dressed in all black and the woman was wearing a white bonnet, they were bent over picking beans. Our grandparents would invite the poor in the area to come and get them some food from this garden but we never recognized them. We called out “ howdy” but they never turned their heads our way and never said anything. I went inside the house and pulling on my grandmother’s apron, began to tell her about the man and woman in our garden. She came outside to see who it was and stood there and said, “ youngens, there ain’t nobody there”. .we demanded “ there they are picking beans”! I yelled out to them again and began to walk toward them, they stood up, turned their heads towards us and faded away. My brother and I saw the same thing but Bigmom never saw anyone. To this day when my brother and I see each other, we speak of it. I know what I saw and nobody believed us. True Story😳
I saw an elderly couple with an old car from the 30's everytime I went to a certain place to walk in the woods. The first time, I thought they were real. But when it kept happening, in exactly the same way, everytime-- I realized they were ghosts. It was wild!
I would have believed you. I had several similar experiences in an old farmhouse that we lived in for a time. We move when I was 10. I have had other strange things happen in other places, usually really old buildings with a colorful history, but nothing like that first house. There's so much going on on this planet, more than we will ever know.

I believe you. I've seen spirits. First time I was 10. I'm much older than that now. I've experienced psychic things all my life.

My mother was not into any supernatural stuff in general... But she was absolutely sure of one very strange incident..... When she was 5 ( this would have been in 1935) She was playing in the back yard of their mill house in a city in South Carolina. She looked up and an Aunt from Tennessee was on the back porch watching her... she kept playing and later went inside and Asked where Aunt such and such was. Her mother was perplexed and told her that that Aunt or no one else has been there. My mother was real confused...... A couple of days later they received word that The Aunt that appeared on the back porch passed away in Tennessee on the day she was seen on the porch In SC by my mother. .
Years ago, I worked night shift on an adolescent psych unit as an RN. I was sitting at my counter doing my nightly paperwork. I looked up to survey the room and the doors to the rooms. There stood a woman by the bookcase looking back at me. As I said, this was a unit for kids, not adults. She had dark hair parted in the middle and pulled back. She was wearing a white blouse with a little round collar, and a dark sweater. Only the top two-thirds of her was visible. As I leaned forward to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing, she slowly faded away. I drew a little picture of her, and slid it over to my tech. He had seen her too but was afraid I would think he had flipped if he told me. I believe in ghosts, spirits, haints, and demons. But we don’t need to be afraid because we are covered by the blood. Just the mere mention of the name of Jesus and they will leave. ❤️🙌🏼

I was born in Bat Cave and grew up directly across the road from Chimney Rock Mountain. I was always more worried about the Little People than I was of the ghosts....

I lived in Asheville in the ‘90’s, and loved reading “Roaming the Mountains,” John Parris’ column in the Asheville Citizen-Times! His phraseology was heartwarming and ever so enjoyable! I greatly appreciate and delight in your own “heartwarming and ever so enjoyable” vlog! You beautifully share his love of those glorious mountains, and memories “since time out of mind.” At 78, I am most content when able to view majestic mountains daily. The sight truly restores my soul!
I grew up in the woods of those parts. Been all around the country and I’ve never had the strange feelings that befell me in those woods. Never went close to them before sunrise or at twilight. Only in the brightest daylight would I venture to explore. Whatever was out there seemed as big as the forest itself.

Had a family member once removed who was said to have second sight! She would sometimes tell family members not to travel on a certain day and sure enough there would be an auto accident or catastrophe in the area they would have gone to. She once heard her mother calling her name and about 5 or 10 minutes later she received phone call saying her mother was in the hospital. Thanks Tipper I do believe there are spiritual things that happen and cannot be explained.
My Grandpa taught me about the fae. I've seen things I can't explain many times in my life, up in the mountains and woods of Nez Perce Forest in Idaho. I'm a believer 😄❤️

Aww Tipper I believe the stories. My big mama told me about the Appalachia ghoast people. She would tell us stories in the fall when our family was gathered around the fireplace with a crackling fire. It was always spooky for us little kids.
I've been on top of Chimney Rock for the annual Easter sunrise service. Only beautiful spirits!
I bet that is an amazing experience!
Seeing into the spirit realm. 2 Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
I've think that people who say the bible is boring must not have read much of it. As you point out, Audrey Ryan, the bible has many amazing facts and tales, both good and evil, instances of bravery and cowardice and all kinds of life lessons. It also tells of our Creator and Lord. It's the most fascinating books of all time.
Awesome reminder that God wants us to know we live in a complex universe. Lots we don't see around us!
My Mom, dad, and grandma were walking down a back alley. There was an old abandoned home that was there since the Civil War. All three of them saw a baby girl standing in the door frame by herself no older than three years old. My Dad went into the house desperately looking looking for that baby. He never did find the baby. Somethings are not explainable. This happened in Olympia Village in Columbia, SC.😊
A lot of ghosts still around from the Civil war. That war was horrible! People just don't have a clue!

I remember getting stuck in the elevator at Chimney Rock as a child. That was terrifying enough. Still don’t care for elevators. Happy Spooky Day!

My 5th great grandfather was one of the first Scottish settlers of Chimney Rock in the 1700s can't remember his first name but surname was Grant. He fought in the revolution and was rewarded.
Such a cool story! I lived in Rutherfordton for many years, so I especially enjoyed the connection to it. Thanks for researching and sharing such wonderful stories with us. My Mom and Dad were great storytellers! Mom used to thrill us with stories as kids, but enjoyed telling great stories all her life. My Dad could tell a great story, too. Such a wonderful part of our culture that is being lost in these generations of media. It kills me that if the stories stop, our culture will soon be lost forever. So grateful for your channel. We went to WM this morning to buy a few bags of candy to ward-off the ghouls that may visit this evening. We learned, from experience, that we can't buy these sweet treats ahead of time. They don't last, and we have to resupply at the last minute!

I never venture up the mountain side of home in NC, it’s like a wall of blackness…I hear cracking of leaves and limbs, strange calls and odd noises as well. I once found a huge hand type mud print on our truck after we had left a raccoon tail in the bed, couldn’t explain what made print…might have been a big foot..hummm....

Maybe they were the “Moon Eyed People” of Cherokee legend. The Cherokee said all the stone structures were already there when they first arrived in the area, and were built by the Moon Eyed People. The Cherokees battled and killed them off over time.

And yet history tries to tell so many crazy untruthful events like Columbus discovered America. Sure he found it but he wasn't the first and when I was in school that's what they taught us. We know good and well that long before the Indians got here black people were already here but yet they fight over who's land it was originally and who deserves money for the theft. If they lived in harmony together then they both deserve payouts from the ones who come in and stole it and we also know they all didn't steal the land. Some was given and sold. It would be much better to try to give facts to the best of their knowledge but knowingly editing history has been proven time and time again to be a failure. It's unfortunate because the truth or the closest we can get us always the best for everyone in the long run and short run. I find it very suspect that they also make Africa look so small on all the world maps. Africa is huge and it should be the right size. It's frustrating.
I thought native Americans were supposed to be so peaceful. If the structures were already there then they were there b4 native Americans so why didn't they leave them alone?
@@jackiemack8653 They didn't leave them alone, most likely, because most humans are war-ing people, who seek access to the easily available resources of others. Sadly, it is part of being human. Also, there is the possibility that the Moon-Eyed people aggressively tried to fend off "immigrant settlers," i.e. the Indians, and that battles ensued.
@Mad Mike there are some people that have really researched this - LA Marzulli, Dan Quayle and others. There are big structures all across the U.S. that were built by giants. They were here before the Native Americans. One place is the Serpent Mound in Ohio. I'm sure Marzulli, Quayle and others would love to hear legend from the Native Americans. The powers that be try to keep this all quiet because it just adds credibility to what the bible says. Thanks for adding this.

i love this story. i’ve heard it before. after all of you know any genealogy of the Searcy family, Robert was the first in the bills creek Rutherford CO, area. The searcy family back in the day was regionally known for the BEST molasses around. He is in fact my 6 G Grandfather.

Thank u for sharing.There's a couple of things left out in these stories.The first story is related to the "moon eyed people",who could have been an early tribe of Welsh in this area of NA,including an old rock wall in N Georgia.In the 2nd story,and I might have missed u read it,but the "cavalry" was said to have been "winged" as angels...This is important bc a friend of mine along with his brother and father claim to have seen "an angel" somewhere up on CR....I have some incredible stories about these mountains to share if u'd ever like to tell them.Every night is majickal here,and I work w wildlife outdoors every night.A lot goes on out in these old forests while most of the world sleeps.....Also check out the late Page Bryant's book "The Spiritual Reawakening of the Great Smoky Mountains" for more stories to share....Good to hear John Parris' name again,too.

Our family were there in september,great story.
I would like to know more abt the colonial cabin I saw during a hike in Bat Cave. We went inside and the hair was in the mud of the logs. It was the strangest thing. Our dogs would not go inside and they were whinnying. I can’t find any information online abt this cabin. But wow. What an experience
