I researched her original recording(s) after reading your posts and I totally agree, she was magnificient. I wonder why they didn't use the recordings in the film?
Josephine Baker represents every gay person in this Nation. "What u mean coming here, shaming this family". At some point you have to walk through that crowd n hold your head high. And have the audacity" to live!!!!! Inspite of
Not true let’s use Michael Jackson for example all he wanted to do was give and love and help children in need but all people wanted to call him Was bizarre
For once Dylan must have been speechless! Such a beautiful soul, an example for us all. Will check out this film. Like most people all I knew was the exotic, sexy, ahead of her time- that's the act, the reality? Until 2021 never heard her interviewed- adopting all those kids, hmm, before Mia and Angelina- Josephine Baker was what a global citizen should be- what do the French "get" that America doesn't? Namaste
@mrlopez2681 i understand but it was THIS movie that made me love Josephine. before this i only heard stories about her but to see a movie held my attention.
You just can't please everyone. Yes purist, you're right, Lynn sang the song at the end, not Josephine, but I loved her version. I walked past pictures of Josephine Baker on the walls at my school like they weren't even there, but this movie made me ashamed of that and inspired me to find out about her. Years later I shared what I learned with my kids. Please don't make it Lynn or this movie vs Josephine. It's a tribute. I think JB would have enjoyed it.
Jehovah God promises that those who have died will live again in Isaiah 26:19: "Your dead will live. My corpses will rise. Wake up and shout for joy, residents of the dust! For your dew is like the morning dew, and the earth will let those who are powerless in death live again." He will bring them back to life; that is the hope of the resurrection.
Sorry, Lynn Whitfield did a great job of portraying Josephine Baker, but Diana Ross had been a fan and studied her for years. She would have made this role EPIC! Just like she did with Lady Sings the Blues. Josephine was a recording artist like Diana Ross so along with the film, she would have given us an album of Josephine Baker's music. And while Diana Ross can dance, I think she would have probably insisted that clips of Josephine Baker actually doing the dancing be used instead of her trying to do them herself, like Lynn Whitfield did. Josephine's dancing was legendary. She danced like she had no bones, and she learned to dance on point like a ballerina. And if you look at her closely, you can see she was doubled jointed, even in her fingers. That's one of the reasons she rose above all others when it came to performing. Diana Ross would also shown that Josephine was a business women with a line of hair care products and owned her own nightclub which attracted the most famous people of her time, including people like Ernest Hemingway and Princess Grace Kelly. she would have shown that Josephine also learned to ride horses and fly planes. There were so many important things about Josephine Baker that Diana Ross would have put on the screen. Lynn Whitfield did a great job, but Diana Ross would have made the role Legendary! Diana Ross is a diva, but so was Josephine, according to her adopted son. It's our loss that they passed over Diana Ross for that role.
Lynn killed this role PERIOD, nobody can be more original then the original of course but Lynn introduced Mrs Josephine to the world as only she could.
@@jbailey8612 I AGREE WITH YOU J BAILY IF YOU DIDN'T TELL THAT FOOL THIS I WOULD HAVE.....LYNN WHITFIELD BROUGHT JOSEPHINE TO LIFE IN HER PERFORMANCE.....NO ONE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER!!!!
Kim d you wouldn't have told me a damn thing..ive watched many of josephine Baker's videos AND like i said Lynn Whitfield didnt do the classy and beautiful josephine Baker justice..now move around.
This is a horrible movie. Bakers real recordings weren't even used (she was a singer of FAR better talent than the garbage heard here). Her spectacular stage shows weren't recreated, and most of the portrayal of her life is a lie.
All she gave & forever will be. What amazes me is the same government that kicked her out of her mansion that housed her & her children she worked and sacrificed for, put on this lavish funeral procession. Politic BS isn't it something.
Still one of my favorites in 2024❤❤❤

I researched her original recording(s) after reading your posts and I totally agree, she was magnificient. I wonder why they didn't use the recordings in the film?
This was the saddest part to me...
The beautiful Lynn Whitfield....
Josephine Baker represents every gay person in this Nation. "What u mean coming here, shaming this family". At some point you have to walk through that crowd n hold your head high. And have the audacity" to live!!!!! Inspite of
Amazing
Une grande Dame 🙏
What a voice
Upon listening to mrlopez2681 rants, I decided to research the original recording here and it is so marvelous! I wonder why they didn't use it here!
A beautiful, poignant, and powerful ending.
What a beautiful beautiful lady
josephine baker was right when she said giving was the one thing people never get punished for
sorry those things happened too you but the blessing is not in recieving it is in giving
well don,t complain of your misfortunes keep giving in time you will reap the blessings and benefits
Not true let’s use Michael Jackson for example all he wanted to do was give and love and help children in need but all people wanted to call him Was bizarre
@@theprince_jay because they couldn't understand his pure childlike heart hr was a Genius and his blsssings came even after death
RIP Josephine Baker
For once Dylan must have been speechless! Such a beautiful soul, an example for us all. Will check out this film. Like most people all I knew was the exotic, sexy, ahead of her time- that's the act, the reality? Until 2021 never heard her interviewed- adopting all those kids, hmm, before Mia and Angelina- Josephine Baker was what a global citizen should be- what do the French "get" that America doesn't? Namaste
She's exquisite even if they did leave out the last verse.
VIVA LA 🇫🇷France!!! ❤
@mrlopez2681 i understand but it was THIS movie that made me love Josephine. before this i only heard stories about her but to see a movie held my attention.
Eric Gregg You didn't want to research her after hearing about her? That's how I found her, then I found this film and was absolutely blown away.
Esse filme não foi divulgado no Brasil!!!! Que absurdo!!
The Voice you hear is Carol Dennis. Former wife of Bob Dylan.
I think JB would have enjoyed it.
stupenda
Everyone should know that Walter Winchell died a nobody . She will be the one remembered !!!
I watched this it scared me as a kid
Boy O Boy did we Americans lose one of our finest performers to France just because of her color ! I will never get it ! Never !!!
Much Respected comment the usa is so small minded but she made them RESPECT her HAIL JOSEPHINE
@@dextergriffin53 I'm an American & I Sir am not small minded .!!!
Jehovah God promises that those who have died will live again in Isaiah 26:19:
"Your dead will live. My corpses will rise. Wake up and shout for joy, residents of the dust! For your dew is like the morning dew, and the earth will let those who are powerless in death live again."
He will bring them back to life; that is the hope of the resurrection.
3:59VSHE LOOKS GORGEOUS

Josephine had a much better voice.
Come on, it wasn't that bad. To me it was pretty good.
So glad DR didn't get her claws into this.
Children, lemonade!
@mrlopez2681 i disagree. i love Josephine's story but i like this better.
ALGUIEN E PUEDE DECIR EL TITULO DE ESTA CANCION
The Times They are a Changing
thats not Lynn Whitfield singing its the elderly josephine baker as Lynn is portraying.
Encore un truc à l'américaine.
@mrlopez2681
I think the woman singing this song was the exwife of the actual author of the song....
ummm...... there exactly the same
Often copied but never equaled!
I love Lynn Whitfield but after looking at videos of the real Josephine Baker she really didn't do her justice
@Dorothy Crawley WHO CARE WHO THEY LAID WITH...ARE YOU JEALOUS????
Kim d you wouldn't have told me a damn thing..ive watched many of josephine Baker's videos AND like i said Lynn Whitfield didnt do the classy and beautiful josephine Baker justice..now move around.
@Dorothy Crawley Who gives a damn how much dingaling u done had. The only kinda people who brag about that are........nevermind. 😔
DIANA ROSS SHOULDVE DONE THIS ROLE
