Don't pull the pin chap. Can't buy as good organic tucker you can grow yourself. My go to things for slugs. (big prob here as well) *Beer or apple cider trap at soil level (mixed results) *UV light at night to seek and destroy them, takes a while to find them all. You'll need a couple of beers *Wet boards around the edges to harvest them *I use very strong cleaning strength vinegar with a surfactant for weed spray seemed to keep them at bay for a few days at least. (fully organic) *Plastic covers on the hoops would keep the soil a bit drier, maybe dig in the edges/ *Predator bugs under those nets, they are cheap breed up and keep working until they run out of food. *Borrow a couple of hedgehogs and rehome them there I've never had luck with copper tape around the beds the theory is the minor electrical charge or PH of the metal doesn't let them cross.
I feel your pain Mark. I got stuck in the car for 30 mins on Sunday as the heavens opened big style. The slugs are working their way through my lettuces and young flowers and as for my Hostas! I usually manage to keep them unchewed until at least August, but not this year. As a result I'm trying a couple of new things. Jane recommended a horse bedding made from miscanthus grass so I've started putting that around at risk plants. Linda from the Feel Good Garden recommended slug pellets made purely from Oregano - nothing else in them. I wouldn't use any other sort of slug pellet but these are really fine for people, animals (and my chickens of course). I have the beer traps out too and they def catch a few. Oh for some baking weather to chase the blighters under ground. Sorry about your carrots. All the best. Mags

I hear you re the slugs and snails!!!! 😫 Caught most of the large ones a couple of months ago in the beer traps then didn’t follow up for the later egg hatch. It’s the snails that have caused me the most trouble though. I dread to think what the farmers are going through! Stick at it. Resow as much as you can.

Hi Mark, you are so funny about the slug army 😂 feeding them your lovely plants! They won't want to leave 😂 this season has been very strange, no germination of sweetpeas & sweetcorn too for me this year first time ever. Have succumbed to buying sweetcorn plugs from the garden centre. At least you got some planting done, tgats progress. I spent 2 hours this morning as it wasn't raining for once and managed some planting too 😉 great video, thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Good luck with the marigolds. Only sowed African marigolds this year, planted out four and they were still intact yesterday so fingers crossed. The slugs are eating all sorts of plants I haven't known them to before. Lost four tomatoes so far and a row of dwarf beans amongst other things.

I feel your pain!!! My carrots germinated really well, I thinned them, and they were growing along great. Then just this past week I started seeing slime trails in the bed, and now every time I go back to the plot there are a few more carrot tops with the lovely frizzy leaves missing, leaving nothing but sad looking little stems! 😭 I've sown some more carrots, they're alternated with rows of spring onions which are doing well, I'm gonna try egg shells and beer traps, and I'm also gonna sow some more carrots in containers just in case the second bed sowing doesn't survive either! Any tips on actually finding the offending slugs/snails? I see trails, but can't seem to find the buggers to remove them!

Hi Mark yes it's fight with them bloody slugs I tryed memotoades before I planted and then got my beds covered so I'm hoping this will be a success and got most of my bed covered with rapeseed straw aswell

Today I went to the allotment and the slugs and snails had attacked my beans so I replaced a couple but my neighbours gave me a load of spent coffee grounds he’d collected from Starbucks for free. Hopefully this will deter the blighters!! 🤞🏻☕️🤞🏻☕️🤞🏻☕️🤞🏻

Sure am. Its got courgettes, leeks and nasturtiums in it this year. You'll get a sneak peak of this in tomorrow's video and then a proper look at how things are going in the plot tour video which should be out around the 7th July 👍🌱👍 Last year it had squash in it and had some great results 👍👍👍
I've had the rabbits in before and they were a nightmare. The amount of damage they can do in one night is frightening! Thankfully I think I've patched the hole in the fence they got through and haven't seen them since. I've got a few plans brewing on how to deal with the pesky slug problem. Hopefully get some thing in place for the weekend and Sunday's video 👍🌱👍

I'd love hedgehogs on my plot 🦔🦔🦔 I don't think they can get in though as all our plots have chicken wire fences around the which were put up by the site owners originally. I do wonder if frogs would come if I put in a small pond 🐸🐸🐸

Nice one buddy! I use a product called "greenclip" - no longer made sadly but they hold up my tomatoes every year!
