This is such a beautiful song by The Everly Brothers, and it's so memorable, lovely melody and such great harmonies. Yes, this came out in 1958 as you say, blimey, 64 years ago, it's hard to believe. The Everly Brothers had a lot of fab songs that I love including Cathy's Clown, Wake Up Little Susie, Walk Right Back and Bird Dog, so many others of course. Yes, you just float away listening to this song, it's wonderful! Thanks so much for such a good reaction, guys, I agree with everything you say. It was an incredible time with all this new music coming out and of course it was the 1960s when as a youngster I really started loving it! Take care now.

Their timing was perfection: every note, every pause, they never blew it. They didn't always get along, but you couldn't tell it by their performances. Let It Be Me has the same feeling as this song. Dreamy and romantic. They were a powerful influence on so many great musicians. I was so lucky to have two teenage sisters when I was born. They had all of these records and left them behind for me when they left home, bless them. I have tons of Everly Brothers records, along with every other star of the fifties. For more impeccable music from Don and Phil, try Walk Right Back and Let It Be Me. Or Ebony Eyes. They will never disappoint you. Ever.

One of my favorite songs from my youth. The Everly Brothers were a HUGE influence on an entire generation. They sang together from childhood with their parents' travelling singing group. Beautiful flawless harmonies. Now you are going down the 1950s rabbit hole. Have you heard Earth Angel by the Penguins (1954,) a beautiful love song, one of the most definitive doo-wop songs ever? Listen to the original recording, not their live performances when they were seniors.

Beautiful timeless song! One of the best duos ever. Had many great songs. Cathy's Clown, Let it be Me, When will I be Loved (written by Phil), Bird Dog, Till I Kissed you, Walk Right In. They were so popular so good a record company lured them from another in 1960 for a million dollars. That was gigantic back then.

These guys cud harmonize like no others. Between these guys and the Righteous Bros, plus numerous other singers Fr back in the day, they def had to have their game on to produce sounds like u do NOT get today. Most often they produced their songs in just one take. Cud u imagine??? They did EVERYTHING at the same time….knew when to lean in or out of the mike etc etc. of course being brothers they had their whole life to get where they were. THE TOP
    Great choice u two.

It's not just how great this song is, especially considering it's from 1958, it's how much of an influence these guys had on the artists that came out later on, most notably The Beatles. Listen to 'If I Fell' by The Beatles and you can almost think it's an Everly Brothers song. By the way, if you haven't already you need to do that song. One of their very best, just amazing harmonies.

A couple of other great rock and roll singers from the 1950s are Buddy Holly (That'll Be The Day, Rave On, It Doesn't Matter Any More, Oh Boy and Peggy Sue), and Eddie Cochran (Summertime Blues, C'mon Everybody, Three Steps to Heaven and Something Else). It would be great if you could react to some of their songs, guys, I'm sure you'd love them! Such an influence on the bands and musicians that followed. Some other great singers of the time - Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and of course the 'King', Elvis Presley (you've already reacted to three of his songs).

  • @jeffmartin1026

Wake Up Little Suzie is a more upbeat song by them that also reflects the innocence of Pop music of that time - Gee Whiz. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and of course The Big Bopper were much more Rock'nRoll. But it all came together a few years later with The Blues to give us the explosion that was the 60s. The further back you go the more you will learn.

Boudleaux and Felice Bryant are credited with writing this song along with hundreds of others but it was actually a song my father wrote -- he never spoke about it but my mother told me that he had sent in this song he wrote to a advertisement in the back of a magazine that promised to "Get your songs published" and it was stolen without giving him any recognition let alone any money -- He wrote it when he was a Marine before he met my mom (she has brown eyes lol) -- I wonder just how many peoples songs were "Published" back in the day -- I shared this story with a co worker and he said the same thing happened to his uncle -- He wrote Turn Turn Turn that the Byrds made famous and supposedly written by Pete Seeger -- he too answered a ad in a magazine -- Funny how both songs if you look them up were written in 15 min -- what a coincidence --- Anyway Im glad you liked his song and the Every Brothers sang it beautifully -- Hugs Daddy

I was born the year it was released and there is nothing like the groups of the 50's. Their music was groundbreaking at the time. I mean the Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly's deaths in the plane crash inspired Don McLean to write American Pie. Classic and timeless in my opinion....all of it.
