If you call Synergy (electrical company), you can set up a weekly or fortnightly direct debit, so you've paid most of your electric bill before it arrives. Esky in Australia or Chilli bin in New Zealand. The Red back spider is the one to keep an eye out for at this time of year (spring to mid summer), because they're most poisonous during these months - most commonly found in a dark damp corners, underneath dark areas, such as a chair or table...Getting away for a weekend, you can hire a caravan very easily, and stay in many caravan parks, which is normally a much cheaper option

@@cathybotha Thank you Cathy. You're doing a great job with your video's hon, and keep up the good work.....I've travelled a lot in my years, and it still amazes me just how a mystery Australia seems to be, to most other countries of the world, so I'm always happy to share as much knowledge about Aus as I possibly can. It seems that Australia is all of a sudden, becoming popular with young families from all over the world, which I think is just so wonderful, but it also seems that there is a lot of bad info out there, that seems to scare a lot a people unnecessarily, so I think it's wonderful seeing a young family (your family in WA, the Bam family QLD, the Johnson family QLD) producing these "real" video's about our country, and how it really is living here. Not full of scare mongering, and making people believe that there's a dangerous animal waiting to kill you around every corner lol. Yes, we have 'some' dangerous animals, but so does every country on this planet, so it amazes me when I hear people saying "oh no, I couldn't go to Australia, it's far too dangerous over there", until I point out "I've managed to survive those dangerous animals for 57yrs now, and so did the 5 generations that came before me, so if I can do it, then so can you" lmao

@@cathybotha really the Sydney Funnelweb spider is the only one that's a danger to life in Australia, but 1) thats only found in areas around Sydney (not WA), and 2) there's antivenom. I havent even seen a redback in the past 20 years here in Perth.

If you live close to a nesting magpi and they are a problem , give them some food and it wont take long before they recognise you and wont swoop you . Eski's are called that because the Eskimo is a popular brand of ice box from very early on . Spiders and snakes are something to be respected but not feared . If you leave them alone they will leave you alone . The problem with our speed laws is that we have done a lot of research into road fatalities and know that with the increasing speed you have a disproportional increase in road deaths. Most of the better highways are listed at 110 Km per hour but a lot of our roads are not up to a standard where you can safely do 140 km . I believe there are far more road deaths in South Africa than Australia and this is probable one reason.

  • @JenenaMaughan

The "esky"was originally a brand of cooler box. My parents had their first one back in the sixties made from all metal. It was made by a company called "Willow"& it had a small picture of an eskimo, so in Aussie tradition it was shortened to "esky". So when other brands came out the name "esky" stuck in reference to cooler boxes in general.

Understand your concerns but really household spiders arent a big issues. Kids and dogs have survived living with them for generations. Like your other advice just keep your eyes open and dont bother them. The other issues with spraying a barrier is the chemical will kill bugs as well. And that means birds lizards cats dogs will possibly eat those bugs and be affected as well. A friend obsessively sprayed flies in the house and didnt realise her little dog was finding and eating the dead ones. She consequently got quite sick and it took a while figure out why. So in solving one problem you could create another.

Hi Cathy, me and my husband are moving to perth in early next year from dubai and your videos offer the most useful content, thank you for doing it and for sharing your experience.
We have watched all your videos by far and you haven't seem to mention anything about the make of white goods that you took from dubai to perth and if it has resulted in more electricity bill than what it would be if you used white goods of Australian make/standard. We have read at a few places that it results in higher electricity bill if the goods are non australian standard. It would be of really great help if you could share your view on this.

Hi Komal- thank you for supporting my channel and so happy that these videos came in useful!! So interesting that you mention the electricity bill.
We shipped 2 x White Goods appliances-
Fridge and Dishwasher and Chest Freezer.
Upon arrival - our fridge was damaged after the shipping so we had to buy new. Then the dishwasher we are not using - because the houses here come with a dishwasher. Our chest freezer we have not used yet because our new fridge as a lot of freezer space.
I will be happy to research regarding the increased electricity bill and will let you know! Valid and interesting point!

Thanks so much for your comment. I am sorry to hear your friend has not been able to immigrate to Australia if that was their intention. I am not aware of that specific law - and have seen a lot of fellow South Africans still making the move to Australia.
It is quite expensive to immigrate from SA due to our weakened currency - and as South Africans - we also need to do all of the English tests/ Qualifications assessments etc. Australia has strict migration rules as well- I recommend your friend connect with a licensed immigration agent to seek advice for his specific case!
