Hello Cathy! Thank you so much for this video. I’m moving to Perth with my family (husband and 2 little boys), and I have the same concerns as you. I have been searching for a safe neighborhood. Your video is helping me a lot.
Thank you for starting this channel! Very useful information! We are waiting for our visas and plan to move beginning of September, so everything is interesting from getting a sim card to schools and kindergartens with as many details as possible
Hi Dmitry! Thanks for your comment - I will be uploading a video on where to shop tonight and will be sure to cover some of your topics requested! Good luck with your move- it is so exciting!!
Thank you very much for all these very informative videos Cathy! I recently came across your channel and finding them very useful as we are also going to migrate to Perth in the next few months.
Really like the cover letter - great idea and just what a landlord would want to see when considering tennants! Which suburb did you end up choosing? north or south?
Thank you for all these infos. 🙌🏼As An expat, they asked you about previous Rentings in your previous home country? Most expats I follow say it is difficult to secure a home without having aussies references. How did you manage it? What documents were asked?
I'm so sorry to hear you are struggling Mona - you will find something eventually and will settle. It took us 3-4weeks of searching. Be kind and patient with yourself. Good luck.
I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling, Mona. I'm planning to move to Perth too, but the rental crisis holds our back. Have you already found a place? Hopefully you have! And how's the condition of the rental crisis now? Is it getting better or worsen?
Hi Cathy, new subscriber here! Thank you for creating these videos. They're informative and definitely helpful! Do you happen to have videos showing your home set up? We do have dogs and were planning to bring them in. Thank you in advance!
Thanks so much, your cover letter example helped me so much. We are moving to Perth soon and I appreciate the effort you put into helping us out with the rental advice.
Hi Cathy, My wife and I are beginning with an immigration agent and Perth seems like a great option. We both work in the business or finance sector, what is a great suburb for a family with a teenager and a toddler close to schools and work?
Hi, Cathy! Great video. So, what is your top 3 Perth neighbourhoods to pick from? Couldn't you film such video describing your top neighbourhoods, could you?
hi cathy thank you for this video. we are moving to Perth this July. I just wanna ask regarding your initial accommodation while you were still looking for a permanent property? thank you again.
Thanks Rajni- I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope it comes in handy for you. Of course- it's all budget dependent and also how far north you would like to go- For us - we found the best value suburbs, not to far from the city and with great community facilities: 1. DIANELLA 2. OSBORNE PARK 3. YOKINE BUT if you want to move further north - and don't need access to the CBD everyday- Joondalup, Kallaroo, and Hillarys are also lovely family suburbs! Inner city -I would recommend Subiaco - such a beautiful, green suburb with a lot of apartments. Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@rajni8834 so exciting. I am sure you and your family will love Perth! GOOD LUCK with all of the travel arrangements- I hope everything goes smoothly 🙏🏻
Here in South Africa I reckon the facebook market place is the best place to find real gem rentals, especially bachelor pads or cottages on rental groups. It also allows one to bypass real estate agents. Is that the case in Aus too?
We didn't have much luck with FB marketplace when we were looking- but that being said we were looking for a family home - looking for a cottage or bach -as you mention- may be an easier task! Join the FB community group of your chosen suburb / community you would like to be located and then do a post! Good luck. 😁👍🏻
Hi Cathy, greetings from Indonesia! Your videos are very helpful, thanks! I'm planning to binge watch your videos since my husband just got a job offer in Perth & will have to move before this August. So yeah we have to prepare everything quickly 🎉. Anyway, where did you live upon your arrival to Perth? Have you already got your recent home before your arrival? Thanks a lot.
Hi Diana - we stayed in a serviced apartment for our 1st month. As far as i know - it is required by law to view a house/apartment before you sign a lease- so you Will need to get here and then begin house hunting. Perth is a really lovely city and we are so happy to call it home. Good luck with your plans and arrangements 😁👍🏻
Thanks Cathy. It is my understanding that you can only apply for one rental property at a time in WA? In that, by applying you are stating you would sign the lease if accepted. How long did it take you to find a rental/how many rejections did you receive (if you don't mind sharing)?
Hi Cate- we applied for 4 properties - we went to a LOT of viewings.. but definitely didn't find a LOT of choices for our shortlist. We had 2 rejections (outbid) and 1 we withdrew once we accepted "the one"😅 It is a bit of a risk as the applications are quite in depth...and you don't want a negative record as a tenant withdrawing applications BUT at the end of the day- not a tenancy agreement or listed bond lodgement. I do think it's good to try and work with only 1 or 2 agents.. and then have open communication about the properties you would like to apply for. They know how tough the market is. This was just our take on it - 🥰
@@cathybotha Thanks Cathy, that's really helpful. The applications are in depth. I am also in the process of attending viewings and find them quite stressful when there are so many others also attending. I'm glad you didn't face too many rejections and found the right property for you. Thanks for this helpful video. :)
I subscribed to you because I am slated to be assigned in WA in the health care industry from nz. I hope my experience is as smooth as yours and I won't have too many difficulties to encounter. Moving is risky, expensive and harder for someone on their own such as myself. I'm looking at those vanlife vans as an alternative to the housing crisis. I think the crisis has only become more prominent over these past few years. not just in Australasia but all over. Do you get any sleep-outs there in Perth to rent for solo professionals?
Aaah that is so exciting- I am sure everything will fall into place for your planned move! I don't have much knowledge about sleep outs but happy to do some research and legwork for you - will let you know. We have seen a couple of people around making the most of van life 😁 there are also TONS of house shares on marketplace - I'm sure you would find other solo professionals looking for a housemate- perhaps even others in the healthcare industry? Good luck!!
Hi Cathy, thanks for this video. We will be moving to Perth end of this year. Did you apply for rental property while in Dubai?or did you book in hotel while waiting for a rental property?Thank you

Hi Cathy... My visa is approved leaving for Perth Western Australia on the 4th of September. It's been a busy and exciting times so much to do and think about in so little time. Do you know of any health care insurance providers that I can contact for expats. Thank you for all the info much appreciated. Stay blessed. 🙏
Hi Cathy, Thanks for sharing your experience. For renting a Room/Apartment/House, does the owner/Agent prefer a temporary stay tenant(1-2 years) or a tenant with long term lease? Would it be possible for you to share your experience and insights if any on this please.
Hi Greynold- we were only ever in discussions for a short term tenancy of 2 years as we are going to try and buy property as soon as we can. Rent does tend to increase in some areas - especially with the current market and some people I have met and chatted with have said they will move to a new short term rental because landlords want to keep increasing the rent each year. I am sure that if you find a decent landlord and have an open discussion with them- you could negotiate your tenancy duration and terms. Good luck!!
Hi Cathy, thanks for the video. We have just moved back to Perth from the UK and also struggling to find a rental. Where on the rental application did you attach your reference documents about your pet and family? All the applications we put in only seem to allow attachments in personal identification documents. (Through 2apply) thanks
