You need to charge double to straighten out DIYer's wiring messes. I have bought a couple of semi tractors over the years that were adorned with a myriad of add on lights and doodads, and everyone ended up being a wiring nightmare. After the first couple of experiences with that type of installations, when I bought a used truck, I stripped off anything not factory and made sure there were no surprises to be had once the salt hit the roads in the winter time. Good video, Eric.
I did a head gasket job on a B9 Tribeca. Even though I loved my WRX I will never buy another Subaru ever again. Heard recently about a class action lawsuits due to valve spring issues that turned into oil starvation engine failures AFTER the crap quality recall work. Nice vehicles, shit engines.

My 03X (now my daughters) had the HG done around 150K miles - more preventative than any catastrophic failure (light external weeping), now up around 210K. I've fixed/maintained quite a bit on it otherwise, but it still ended up as a good purchase overall. Subaru's aren't the most reliable cars, but better than many i've had for sure. I tell people who ask about it "if the HG is OK, you might have to fix a few things here and there, but they are solid overall".
@@VBshredder The later EJ25’a seem to leak oil from the hg externally, much prefer that over the way the early engines have them fail. We’re lucky we got the n/a EJ20 alongside the EJ25 here which don’t have any hg issues. I’ve had 5 Subaru’s, none have had any problems.
You'll enjoy this one Mr. O I had a 2000 Buick LeSabre come in with the big 3.8 customer said it run ruff. They said that a little mouse was under the hood eating wires. I thought okay we have a missing wire some place no big deal. I opened the hood for my diagnostic look, low and behold I found someone was already in there fixing the damage. I found that all the injector wires had been cut back and respliced. They used wire nuts that a home electrician would use. Long story short I figured out which wire went where. Customer picked it up and they were pretty sheepish to tell me their grandson was going to mechanic school and this was his project.
A 7440 bulb is 25W. A 7743 is a 25/5W. But what they need is a 5W single filament. I've seen that in a Chevy where they used a dual filament bulb for the tail light so it matches the brightness of the brake/tail light bulb.
Great video but ya forgot to say, "There's your problem fella!". I know that ya say "lady" bit this was a fella's car. Easier for the manufactures to use the three wire sockets than spend the extra money to have the two wire ones made up, just a guess.😎

I am now more satisfied that I did not install the rear backup camera with my aftermarket Boss radio and I now am happier with no regrets. As conformed by the guru SMA, the improper installation actually put the driver in risk by causing problems with the brake lights and etc.... I did not even try installing the backup camera. I suspected it was a lot of work running and hiding the dedicated camera wire from the radio to the backup camera and then hooking it up safely to the power from the brake lights. * The Boss radio has a lot of other goodies over the stock radio and the Boss is a great value.

I think the sketchiest wire repair I've done on my own vehicle was soldered, then smothered liberally in neutral cure clear silicone... then after it all dried wrapped in tape. Was a Sunday evening, nothing was open and I had to make do. Still intact seven years and counting hahaha!
Oh Great Grand Master Eric- Please enlighten this uneducated person: What is the name of the nifty tool you slipped down under the tape to protect the wires when you were cutting, and where did you obtain that magical device?

The white wire to that one bulb is used in England and Australia where rear fog lights are used. Instead of having separate wire harnesses per country Subaru and other manufacturers use the same type of lighting but have it disconnected without having the extra switch and wiring connected in countries where rear fogs are illegal. I discovered this on a 2001 through 2006 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback. Center lights here in the USA only use the dimmer light where in England and Australia the brighter filament is used as the rear fog light

Oh my... the new POV style! It's like Ivan with less shakiness but more roller coaster motion sickness.
Undecided on + -. I like it from the close in "do you see what I see" aspect but the motion..... eurrrgh.
Always good regardless :)
"l'll give you a Dollar to blow into that Josh"". You say that to all the boys? lol
Congratulations to the owner, he just got his backup camera properly installed. :-) And by that I mean, his botched installation got repaired.
How did you hear me say 'bad ground' that is creepy! ;)
The same way I just saw you type this when you were in the bathroom.....

Looks at my Forester in the drive way..... don’t listen to him Forester Crying is head gasket lol
The AC clutch on my outback sounds like a pod of humpback whales.
@@djosbun ya I actually did buy a 2020 forester I really love it so far, that being said I work at a Ford dealership and the escapes are shocking bad! And they suck to work on. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts I actually got a job offer from the dealer I bought it from. I am really thinking about it
My 03X (now my daughters) had the HG done around 150K miles - more preventative than any catastrophic failure (light external weeping), now up around 210K.
“Bad ground folks, I know, I can hear ya.” 😂😂😂😂
Great video but ya forgot to say, "There's your problem fella!". I know that ya say "lady" bit this was a fella's car.
Easier for the manufactures to use the three wire sockets than spend the extra money to have the two wire ones made up, just a guess.😎
Been a while sinse I visited your channel....forgot how good it is....and funny too, great sense of humour....
"bad ground folks, I know I can hear you"
I was wondering for bit if he had the wrong light bulbs in; sometimes that leads to wonkyness also. Not that I ever did it myself.....
Another great video. The time crunch you were under forced the instinctive Eric to come out which is as valuable and informative as when you pull out scan tools. Thanks for sharing.
BTW - this is one vehicle where you could have said "let's flush this toilet and move on" and it would have been totally accurate.
56th! Lol. I'm late for dinner as I found some strippers in the trunk.
i had to watch this . the neighbor across the street had been working away from home the last couple weeks .well his vehicle has been gone all week ?? this afternoon a huge Hummer limo pulled up loaded up the kids and some of their friends then left. mom and dad stayed home .
Hopefully you made it to dinner on time!
I'm wiring a car myself and this helped me figure out what lights go where on the chassis thanks!

He was also in Magnum Force, I think. Mustafa.
@@repro7780 yes he was In a couple of them. Sudden Impact. The Enforcer. Coogans bluff. Etc

Grounds are a mother to chase in this kind of weather. At least you are in a nice warm garage! The garage at my place has 7' tall doors and my Super Duty is a shade over 8' tall. Yeah, it gets worked on when the weather is nice.
Beads! Party Blower! Squirrel! What was I doing? Beads!...🎉 And remember viewers if you can do it, I can fix it! 😂🤣
Awesome how they left all the evidence in the re for you to find... speaker wire, cutters, tape... and vampire connectors.
Not sure why the AI overlords deleted my first comment, but the tool is called a "wire spoon". Astro 35250. Eric wasn't really using it for its intended purpose, so it took me awhile to figure out what it's called.
@@andronicuscomnenus2642 Thank You very much for the information. I work on electronics and that will be great for old military looms.
I use a clothing stitch ripper found anywhere sewing supplies are sold, including wallyworld
Gosh Eric is so talented.
Also that little tool to stop you cutting wires is great.
i’m a simple man, i see Eric O, i click
I used to love finding those types of "repairs". Good fun figuring what the person was thinking.
Maybe a better question is IF they were thinking. 😉
@@michaelblacktree as a mechanic and shop owner for 35 years I can say that I actually have seen worse from so called other repair shops. Now they had to be thinking, just not sure on what but it was not the job at hand.
I caught the "I gots ta know" reference right fron the "get go." That actor went on to play "Big Ed Mustapha" in "The Enforcer".
He also played the pimp in Magnum Force and Harry’s partner in Sudden Impact.
Strippers in the trunk? Kinky!
Good job Mr. O! The solder will do LOTS better than the tape alone. Looks like this Subi is not far away from the crusher!
What is the buzz when put in reverse?
That's the self-detonator mechanism counting down...BOOM. I'm sure that's why Eric was in a hurry to get done.

Wire up some hack wiring or pull the Fuse.

Lol dude it’s a 14 year old car in the rust belt that’s been hacked up by people putting aftermarket in it. Of course there’s gonna be problems.
@@Smuffins42069 the way the newer ones burn oil the EPA needs to class them as diesels.

Anything new is just plain crap from the factory! They don't make cars like they use to!!
Do or have you owned any Subaru's ?
I own several older Subaru's since new & in all my years not one burns any oil or has had any issues because of proper preventive maintenance.
As soon as I saw the blue scotch lock vampire connectors i knew it would be good video
Hey What's that little tool you're sliding underneath the tape?
I want to know that too.
I just asked this and was scrolling to see if I could find the answer when I found your question. I feel better knowing that I am not the only one that wants to know.
It is a fabric seam ripper.
Thank you for the answer
Thanks.
I gots to know - that was actor Albert Popwell. He appeared in a few Dirty Harry movies, once as a good guy, actually. Sadly, Albert Popwell passed away in 1999, aged 72.
Don't be bad mouthing subarus I love mine ♥
The white wire to that one bulb is used in England and Australia where rear fog lights are used. Instead of having separate wire harnesses per country Subaru and other manufacturers use the same type of lighting but have it disconnected without having the extra switch and wiring connected in countries where rear fogs are illegal.
I discovered this on a 2001 through 2006 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback. Center lights here in the USA only use the dimmer light where in England and Australia the brighter filament is used as the rear fog light
