See these photos from Supernote: imgur.com/gallery/DSt6uCr - as far as I gather these refills will fit in a Safari and LIKELY (haven’t confirmed) an Al-Star.
Move over, Heart of Metal 🖊️ A quick & EASY tutorial to assembling my new favorite Supernote e-ink tablet pen: a Lamy with a super-fine ceramic nib you never need to replace.
Note: this ceramic nib refill was made for SUPERNOTE tablets, which have a special film applied.
⚠️ Using this nib on ANY OTHER brand of tablet-even one with a screen protector on it-may damage your device. (Don't say I didn't warn you!)

Have you been able to confirm that the new ceramic tip refills (carefully trimmed) still work with the Lamy Al-star rollerball? Perhaps you have replaced the one you gave to Mr. pixel leaves with a new colour?
Am anxious to hear some confirmation, as I am about to purchase all of the components for my own Franken-pens! Thanks.

I haven’t purchased a refill myself since they added the flanges, so I would ask on the Facebook/subreddit to be safe!

Can confirm that the al-star works with the new refill! Just picked up a refill and an "electric green" al-star rollerball. Works great!

@@jiyoungcha703 you don't have to cut the flanges with the new refill however, when installing it in the housing you will need to apply some force to get the refill tip to go through all the way. Do not recommend this though because the pen refill will kind of be stuck and you will lose the spring action on the refill when you press hard enough on your supernote which if the spring does not do it's thing, you can potentially pierce the screen surface on the supernote due to pressing too hard. Also, you only need to clip 1 side of the flanges not both as shown in the photo. Preferably you want to trim the flange on the side that does not have the coil running through for obvious reasons. Doing this will allow the install to be easier and the spring action of the re-fill to function properly just like official the supernote pens do.
Thank a lot for the tutorial and all the videos about the Supernote...to be honest I am a user of RM2 since a while and never considered the Supernote, but your videos are leaning me to the Supernote and the ceramic nib pen. Of course this hack of my Lamy is another point to that direction :D Congrats!

Geat tutorial. Just one note, purchased a LAMY Al-Star and Ring adjusters. The Ring adjusters only came with 1 of the small sizes, which made it a little harder to line things up. Due to this there was also some additional pressure on the SupterNote refill, causing the tip to press against the cap of the pen when closed. It would pop off from time to time. When I got my Lamy EMR, I swapped the body and cap, and that resolved the issue. I think the EMR cap has a bit of additional space. You should totally make more videos btw 🙂
I actually bought an extra ceramic refill and rollerball pen body (lamy-like) just to experiment and do this :)

Thanks for the DIY. Lamy is the best pen case for use. Done myself, but with another stuff instead rings. But rings seems the best option. Kaweco pen cases are ideal, too.
I was looking into this mod but absolutely hate Lamy's triangular grips. Thanks for the info about Kaweco pens!
Curious to know if you’ve done smth similar with the Kaweco Al Sport model?
On the flangeless refills (or flange-trimmed refills), what keeps the tip from just continuing to slide out the tip? I'm hoping it's not the coil itself....
What about this Frankenstein pen do you like over the Heart of Metal pen which already comes with the ceramic tip and thicker feel?
I like the grip on it (I’m familiar with the fountain pen version) and the weight when the cap is posted on the pen body. But it’s all personal preference, I have the HoM and it’s a great pen as well!

I don’t have a Supernote (yet) nor a Lamy. I tried a Lamy in Chapters and like the size of it enabling easy grip for someone like me who writes lightly and in small font. Would keep this trick in mind. But first I have to get myself a Lamy. 😊 🖊
I love the feel in hand of a Lamy (for fountain pens) so this was a no-brainer for me! The Safari pens especially are quite affordable for this hack, I think the most expensive part is the refill + shipping 😅

The Supernote has no frontlight. Some people use clip on lights but I don’t, maybe you can check out the Reddit or the Facebook group for more info
haha, I'm wait for my supernote to arrive, and after I ordered it I had the same idea. but I did not order a refill. is it possible to take the standard pen apart and take out the inner part?
I mean, I think so but it’s pretty risky 😅 I just opted to get a refill haha
Cumbersome procedures but hey why not make it simpler and sell them as they should be already out of the package. Just saying. That company supernote is not there yet unfortunately. But I’m waiting, maybe in a couple of years when they are a bigger company and actually offer a better website and improved customer service. Sorry Because the notebook paper like seemed cool.
I'll admit this is a DIY item based on my personal tinkering and preferences 😊 Lamy does sell an EMR pen on the Supernote website but it seems their official collaboration is a different concept. (I bought my original POM nib Lamy EMR pen from Supernote.com!) I actually think Supernote has maybe the best (or at least most responsive) customer service of the current "big" e-ink tablet providers, and I found it kind of insane they had people sleeping in the factory just to deliver orders during lockdown... I do agree it's more difficult to contact them now with the lockdowns in Shanghai.
