Sooo. The amiibo i want has the starting color of the controller but it wont let me set the leds while in that color. If i use the other green it says " failed to read amiibo" am i doing somethinh wrong?

Have you updated your controller with a laptop and their PDF? If not, you maybe do not have all the ‘latest’ ammibos as the company do not update the controller before they send it:)
I had this problem with animal crossing as there as so many options for amiibo, it took me a few tests to get Lone into my animal crossing town!
Try going through both the green and yellow options.
Also One of the colours on the controller is a standard mode that doesnt have a light setting - believe it is blue but will check asap for you
