Mahindra Thar | First Look Review | OVERDRIVE

- The all-new Mahindra Thar takes a quantum leap forward in several areas. After years, with the Thar catering to a very niche segment, this all-new second generation Thar has the potential to make a more mainstream pitch. And there is good reason which is what Bert has detailed into what he liked and didn't, after a short drive within city limits, in the Mahindra Thar.

Bertrand just blurts out here. Sad and unstructured content! Sad to see
What's happening to the quality of content churned out by @overdrive?!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Really pathetic, seems the editors are completely oblivious to the competition @Powerdrift @Autocar 🤔
Instead of admiring the new Thar 2020, I was also thinking about how overdrive can give such a pathetic review. Seems like this guy isn't interested at all.
For quality click on Autocar or Zigwheels. Autocar can be biased sometimes to Indian auto giants.
Charchit Singh Mehta autocar lady bitch is hilarious. & rest all Champus from autocar are just happy to get the salary!🤣
Grill is not going at all with the design... plus dead paddles are missing... rear wiper missing...no arm rest a big disappointment ...back sitting space is not utilized properly and finishing is not upto the mark .... and don't understand the logic behind you need a key to open a open a fuel tank
Maybe they needed to keep some stuff for an update later at the beginning of the next cycle. Don't think the rear snafu would ever be fixed by Mahindra. After market only knowing it took them ten years to center the steering wheel.
Need lot of improvement in reviewing very messy review
yup.. clearly looking/searching for words.. looks like a hushed review.. bas jaldi se upload krna thaa to get more views.. sadly at the expense of quality
@@koenigsegg1237456789 😂😂😂
Agree
Exactly that's what I think
How can we go for long trips without being able to put luggages behind without putting down the rear seats?? Roof carrier would spoil the lifestyle look

#IndiaIndependenceDay !!!!
This time Mahindra nailed it
No jeep nailed it😂
was wondering if the hardtop on the thar lx version is removable just like jeep rubicon...?
@@AP-fc6mb no can't
@@RahulPrasadh this is very confusing Some Reviewers say it's removable some say it's not i would really consider Thar if the Hardtop Is Removable 💯Thanks for tge insights
@@AP-fc6mb Soft top version has two, convertible and fixed. Hard top is fixed only.
What was the point of parking the vehicle on a divider? Damage to public property in a way!
was wondering if the hardtop on the thar lx version is removable just like jeep rubicon...?
He contradicts himself. @2:43 he says the hardtop can be removed and at 18:58 he says the hardtop doesn’t come off ! 🤷🏻♂️ Does anyone have an idea on the fact ?!
@@anandrajc Yes this is very confusing Some Reviewers say it's removable some say it's not i would really consider Thar if the Hardtop Is Removable 💯Thanks for the insights
Anand Raj C.J it’s removable but not without tools , the soft top however is held by clamps which folds down manually
Hope one day Gurkha come up with a G63 like exact copy !! That would be a true battle.
that needs more investment than rights
🤣
@@au1947 Spot on the money dude.
at 2:48 you are saying the roof comes off later in the video you say the hard top doesnt come off ?
Yup...he first sae the top comes off n. Than me sae it dont
r c so it’s confusing it comes off or not?
*SOME FEATURES I STILL WANT IN THIS*
1. REAR DISK BRAKES.
2. JEEP LIKE DOOR HANDLES.
3. PROJECTOR HEADLAMPS.
4. PUSH START/STOP BUTTON.
Four door version could have more appeal to wider audience
It will kill Scorpio hai
It will eat small portion of scorpio(SO DOES XUV500). Thar is catered to different segments of people.
Finally..!!! The new Thar 😍.. but bro your presentation is very boring.😒
@Overdrive, so I was waiting for your first-look/walk-around video to be up so I can get to hear about the new Thar from the adults in the room. And this happened!
Why would you let this clown, clearly struggling with words, barely hanging onto a coherent thought, cover an important event such as this?!?
Next time bring out that Paradkar dude who knows his shit and can talk sense!
You guys need a better review of the petrol engine of the Thar. Cosmetic changes everybody can point out. You can easily look at it in Mahindra's website. Make a video dedicated to the petrol engine pls. The SUV has a new heart and you guys are telling ur viewers to look at the infotainment system. U guys r better than this.
you just wrote what i was feeling
Exactly
Jeep is going to shut shop when this gets on the road..
unlikely. People who buy Wrangler wont obviously take it offroad, may be 0.1% would considering how expensive it is. Regardless of its capability, in india, its mostly a statement to show you can afford it. coming back to the other Jeep product, the compass, Thar cant compete with it on the lines of comfort. Thar would obviously be far better off road. They cater to different segments. Those who aspire to own a Wrangler for its offroad capability but cant afford it, will be happy with the Thar, and no that doesnt make it a cheap product in anyways. Mahindra has done a commendable job upgrading Thar from utilitarian to Lifestyle product. I wish it all the sucess.
I doubt it mahindra has long acquired license for assemblying jeep from willys for indian market longer than it was acquired by fca 1940s to be exact so as long as they will not step on US soil they will not face any lawsuit its not like fca's gonna win anyways mahindra roxor has been selling in US categorized as UTV
It could have better if they two more doors
@@TheLazyWandererMys people who take wrangler is hardcore off-roaders broo
😂
Other people will prefer sedans or luxury suv
Wrangler is a different segment altogether. Pricing and brand is one aspect while performance is another. One simply can’t compare.
Watched the other reviews but this one answers all the questions from an experienced off-roader's perspective. Plus some practical Mahindra ownership advice.
Is this guy really knows about the product. OD poor review...
Some unfulfilled expectations..
1. Rear disc brake (must for better safety)
2. Remote opening fuel lid (how can Mahindra even thinks about putting fuel tank lid opening with a KEY 🙄, on such premiumly made car)
3. Rear camera (no mention in any videos)
4. Dead pedal & Arm rest for front seats for daily driver- Lifestyle models (when Mahindra provides cruise control then why not Dead pedal)
Thinkable 🤔
Mahindra does it the Mahindra way. Consistent. But I think it is the Thar team. Mahindra does other vehicles and they are really well finished. So the Thar is the foster child of the lot and I guess their mantra is to make do. Ironic when Mahindra literally owns a proper design house.
Overdrive where u find this guy..I just unsubscribe u man...
It will sell nly if it priced sensibly if , if it cost more than 16 lakh on road , RIP to the marketing team
Boss you said all wrong about locking hub, locking differential and brake locking differential...which axel has locking diff? Not clear
Mechanical locking differential is at rear wheels and brake locking differential is available in all four wheels. BLD is comes with ESP
I thought its Arnab Goswami doing the review
A very messy review. Couldn't even watch it fully😔 Expected more from OD
Finally Indian company is thinking international level.
14:40 quite sure that it is a toyota engine starting up. Sounds like the old 2.5L from the innova
toyota D-4D undoubtedly
Mahindra pretty much nailed the car and Overdrive pretty much screwed its review
Worst review of a car I have seen on this channel.
Still ordinary, bad oration btw.
Dude it's a mahindra not Wrangler it's stupid to expect 360 cameras, wrangler doesn't have it for that matter, why would you expect a mahindra to put them in for you 😂😂
Looking for a better review.
He sounds like he lost his script and he did a bad job improvising his lines 😄
Well, the cheap maintenance of the old Thar is excellent. The less electronics the better. Having driven my old Gypsy since 1987 ,or was it 88, I find the Thar very comfortable and lets face it, do you really want to drive over 100kph on north Indian roads ?. This new one doesn’t look like the old Willys jeep. The petrol option is interesting for the future but it all depends on the pricing. There is the Isuzu and toyota to consider. There is no such thing as adventure whilst driving, only a destination or purpose.
Two variants: AX as adventure and LX as Luxury/Lifestyle. Why isn't there LED lights (head, fog) other than brake lights or atleast remote fuel lid opener for the so called LX variant? 🤔
Haven't seen such a worst review like this. Is he even reviewing a car or teaching to kinder garden students? An amateur journalist can do a better review than him. And most of all the basic thing is if you're reviewing a car parked in public places means you must have to park it properly in the side lane. You media people have the capability the influence the people whether it is good or bad. Can't accept such a reputed organization doing reviews like this. And finally, checking his or whether he's explaining the features by looking into phone is kind of embarrassing while giving out a review.
9:56 meri wire to kharab ho hi naii sakti..... usb port mein kya diff aayega prod and dev stage mein :p
Not Range Rover Defender, Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes G wagon has this options like in Thar showing tyre radius indication, engine temperature it's an amazing thing mahindra did. But Mahindra would've done far better having four door and five seats that families can sit and go off-road.
We cannot make this a family car, only 4 can sit. Don’t know how much noise the soft top going to make. Not reasonable trunk space to do a airport trips or family tours. Not able to put luggage carrier in the top so we can use this as special vehicle. If they haven’t reasonably priced they will get only limited customer and you can price at 10 to 12.5 lakhs bracket for all the variants...
1. It's the hard top version, roof can be taken off on soft top version.
2. Engine is placed longitudinaly , in other cars it's transversly put.
Also I was hoping you'd tell how it feels to drive . Almost everyone knows the specs by now.
Like most, he is also a pretender. Doesn't have any real knowledge of vehicles.
Price should equivalent to bolero and the top model must be under 10 lack onroad otherwise sales will be very very low . Also there is huge vibration while driving on highway if we go above 80km speed which must be corrected before 2nd oct to make it successful in my operation.
After review anchor admitted to hospital due to covid 19 , No mask in public road ha haa
Shame on Breeza, Creta and its lines who recklessly fool the Indians as a hybrid offroader SUV. There was never a time i count them as a SUV. Thar is here to clear our doubts. That being said this vehicle may be the most beautiful car an Indians will ever drive off and in roads. Mahindra Thank you.
roof doesn't come off buddy. i have spotted quite a few other mistakes in your presentation. not expected fron overdrive. thums up for the vehicle but a dislike for the video
How about the safety ,,,,,
Can it meet the benchmarks set by
The nexon and xuv300 .
Secondly,,,no luggage space
Lastly ,,,no ease of entry and exit to rear passengers.
Very bad reviews and lack of knowledge is very evident and u r not even aware of the variants and you r saying that it will be announced on the launch 😂😂. U don’t know which wheels get differencial lock and which has a brake lock. Please don’t miss guide viewers. Totally bad review.
Mahindra got a Jeep Wrangler and basically copied everything Jeep did with their brand new wrangler. I must say its a pretty close copy. Looks ugly in my opinion. No longer the butch thar i know and loved.
This looks exactly like a jeep wrangler. If mahindra offers 2 more doors like jeep with a real hard top, it will be a great family car too
True! It would sell like cheese cakes🔥
Dear Bertrand D'souza, nice review. One thing is, it's a 6 speed automatic transmission.
Very poor review . Did not expect this from OVERDRIVE. The anchor seems to be lost...👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Why does nobody seemed bothered about the absence of a center arm rest? If you expect me to use this vehicle as an everyday commuter apart from off roading; I would certainly expect a center arm rest. I don't think it's too big of an ask.
It's such a shame to see. A company with a lot of financial power, can't come up with their own design. I won't be surprised if these guys gets taken to court for literally copying.
Awesome off-road vehicle proud of Mahindra and Mahindra.
But Overdrive this guy is a shitty auto journalist and not prepared at all and made me loose my interest while watching this video
Its looks stunning.....but as an Indian...Iam heart broken....Mahindra ..... why do you want to copy a wrangler, that too a company which owned.. .pininfarina...soo sad.😪😪😪😪😪
So many people r praising the thar and saying things like "wait is over". But i dont think thar is going to make big numbers on sales charts.
This is the worst review , I don't think this guy even has done off-road trail! And seems so confused and overall review looks like a paid review with very bad narrative, please fix his throat first and then go either ways 😅
Bestt video at #blackinfo
Poor audio and editing
One of the most anticipated product by Mahindra however very out of thought and out of words kind of review. The speaker looks underprepared and has lot of good ups, very substandard for overdrive
Hyderabad Roads are most Suitable for This Mahindra Thar 2020. Since it is designed for OFF ROAD.
I am a Cinematographer. Content here is very basic. I can make way better than this in your budget..

Sure looks a lot like a Jeep Wrangler, FCA isn't going to be happy about that!
I love the product but space management in the back could have been much better. Also the plastics used in the dashboard looks very cheap at least in the video. Thumps up to Mahindra.
Only thing which is to modified now Front grill and Headlamps..just w8ing for bookings to be open..
I just hope it doesn't have a. Bumpy wobbly ride near 80 to 100. Overall a great car now.
Kaafi cars ka career khatre mei😂😂
Shame your review should have been in off-road....but holding umbrella it was pathetic
Everyone is after making videos of top model. Can someone make a video on base model also?
Are you sure the hardtop roof is not removable, also is it FRP? :( Guess it is ABS plastic
Bro hats off to your efforts in this heavy rain....but it worth for this product... classic it is
I didn't expect this kind of review especially from overdrive!!

Thar with petrol has more power than diesel.... Thats tempting more towards it.... Defintly go for petrol engine
What if the water goes in the ac vents while pressure washing inside?
A lighter diesel 4 x 2 hard top for the Philippine market in automatic with sports mode please !
how do you lock the mechanical rear diff? and can you remove the hard top?
Jeep Wrangler 5 door costs nearly 75 lacs INR plus in India the only competition Thar will face is the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimmy (Gypsy)...
Why do you forget the Isuzu V Cross. That is a killer machine as well.
They should also make 4 doors version
What is the material used for the hard top?
What about the fuel lid opener?
Still do we have to switch off the thar and go out and fill the fuel. Why the dont provide a remote fuel lid opener. Strange
Anyone can open the fuel lid if its in a soft top version. So its lockable
@@sharadms so anyone can access engine bay which has all the costly and important parts. Fuel is important than that.
Why dont they put the remote fuel lid opener switch in glove box with a lock.
Yes. Anyone can access the engine bay. That's how it is in the old Thar. I own one.
Lockable engine bay access is a good idea yes. Maybe someone can try fitting a mechanical lock to the hood release lever mechanism aftermarket. Needs to be explored.
8km per ltr ??🤔🤔😕😕 it is surely not a daily life veichle..
Overdrive team just a quick question ,since you were driving in rain was there any water leakage inside from any of joints as it use to leak in old Thar.
Many people made it a point to say no leakage despite pouring rain.
I hope they launch it in 10-11 lakh price range for the petrol version then only it will appeal people
Superb, expected mileage and price please. Hope the top spec doesn't cross 15 on road
No offence but the description was boring and this is Thar we are talking about!
India ki Hummer......
Review has 1990s feel to it. Rohit should have reviewed it. Bert looks out of depth compared to the other reviews of the same car. Kia Carnival review was also a mess. Lack of proper script and devoid of flow.
Sameer Dhere
I was browsing through the comments just to check if it was just me who felt this clown totally fucked up this preview video!
Gaadi ki length thodi badaake thodi dikki badi banavani chahiye and pichhe waali seats comfortable nahi hai. So length gaadi ki aur honi chahiye....
Aur front view kuch khaas nahi hai, aur badhiya design banaya ja sakta tha..,
this dude repeated "it's 15th Aug and we're driving the new Thar" for the 1st MINUTE. jeez! get a scriptwriter
@@adarshsharma6113 I suppose you wrote this script
@@adarshsharma6113 maybe thats what make Powerdrift reviews look much better and mature...if not scripted , we should atleast expect a autocar level review....this review was way too boring and amateur at multiple levels

it's suckers like you that celebrate mediocrity, that at are blame for the frankly sad state of affairs in the country.
FYI- Overdrive is owned by Network18, a production house as big as Yashraj. all quality reviews are scripted to ensure quality of the content. so NO, im not being unreasonable in criticising this sub-par video.
@@adarshsharma6113 @Adarsh Sharma if you want to talk in terms of numbers, just check autocar review. 22k people have already shown what they like against your 1.5k likes.
Celebrate Independence day by shamelessly copying the Jeep Wrangler?
Need a detailed review about petrol Manual
Hell of struggle every day every time to get in back sit ..that sucks
Is there apple car play and android auto I have seen so many videos and nobody even mentions it
It's well thought design except for that narrow front fenders.
EXTREMELY BUYABLE. Better than expected. Eagerly waiting for the price reveal and bookings to begin. The AT Petrol LX version is really the one to buy I think. Convertible top. Ah!. Small stuff they should consider - 4 Disc brakes would be good. Plus a rear wiper for that large straight block of a rear slab.
Any feed back on the performance of hard top? Does it stay quiet or shudders when car is driven over broken surface
Very typical problem with the older ones.
This video has a very “sponsored” feel to it 😀
U r confused between diff locker and manual locking hubs
Bertrand D'Souza is the absolute worst reviewer in auto journalism. Incoherent, messy and non linear.
Absolutely
