We are lucky in South Africa 🇿🇦 to have both. Mahindra is slowly winning our hearts over for example, farmers here are shifting to the Mahindra Scorpio Pik up instead of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux because it is cheaper and still does the job very well and will last for as long it is required (5 to 10 years of hard work).

We did a ton of tours up mountain passes and even some rock climbs and they all use these and bolero's ( pick up version pretty much). Where i stay (south africa) farmers and people in more rural areas love these because oc how tough they are.

But at < $20K, I wouldn't be afraid to take a Roxor on an off road course, because I wouldn't be bothered by the inevitable paint and/or body damage that comes with doing that. Now if I buy a Jeep Wrangler JK here in India. There is only the LIMITED version. It costs 120000 USD on the road. At the present rates of currency conversion. The Mahindra Thar (present version) costs 1/10th of this amount which means I can get it on road at about 15000 USD in India. And this new Mahindra Thar which is significantly upgraded in its 2020 version, may cost around 24000 USD or so and it will be worth it.
The Mahindra Thar, has its DNA from the original Wartime WW2 Willys Jeeps. Mahindra Built these under license in India from 1947 onwards. This is India’s own Wrangler equivalent and the fact that Mahindra sells millions of their vehicles here in India, most of Africa and South America, in Easter and Western Europe and in America itself, is testimony to the fact. Also, Mahindra runs a very strong FORMULA E team. They own Pininfarina Design too in Italy. They are a very strong brand and a real solid company. And YES, the Roxor is doing very well indeed in America from what I read on the internet.

Rahul Menon No. Originally an independent company based in the north state of Ceará here in Brazil. The inicial car had a “similar” look to the Jeep with a composite body and a gasoline VW water cold engine in 1997. The engine was than changed for an MWM diesel. Than in 2007 was bought by Ford. In 2015 they presented a completely new model that is still produced.

Well, in my country the Wrangler goes from US $76 000, a Jimny from $24500 and a UAZ Patriot from $32000. For me, I prefer Suzuki because, through the years, it has the best reliability record.

I would like to thank all foreigners as an indian for understanding our creation so well. Indian companies no doubt produce high end superb designed and strong cars at a very very low budget. As for example we can take tata hexon, which can just pull an aeroplane of more than 10tonnes and is availaible at a very low price of about 20lakh inr rupees. Which is more than a value for money. If agree smash the like button.

Frankly, if they were licensing the design from Willys originally, and that's where their design heritage came from, they have a much right to the design look as Jeep IMO. Jeep actually inspired a lot of similar vehicles, it created the market for the original Bronco. The army asked the Japanese to make a Jeep for them in the Korean War, and that's where the FJ came from. And I wasn't even aware of Mohindra till now, but heck, I feel like they have that heritage baked in as well. Maybe they could do a little more to change the front face so it's not as Jeep looking, then I think they could easily sell this thing in North America.

You're right. Both Jeep and Mahindra own rights to Wiley's design that's why the design similarity between Wrangler and Thar.

Well in terms of changing the grill, Mahindra actually has every right to use their current grill along with theyre old 2018 design, the 2018 design was a five and a half, curved slot grill which is in fact 100% different than a 7 slot parallel grill that Jeep owns the trademark to. So in terms of the lawsuit, that was FCA's original complaint, however they soon found out that a five and a half slot grill is nowhere near a seven slot grill and they began to pursue other aspects of the roxors design to try and win the case. In my personal opinion the judge who ruled in favor of FCA was not only wrong in his ruling but also clearly biased. I mean let's take a look at the facts of the case, Mahindra is selling the Roxor as a UTV meaning they are not even in similar markets, and for FCA to argue that Mahindra is taking away sales from a Wrangler is in fact preposterous because they're not even in a similar class of vehicle. Then every single one of the aspects of the Roxor has been slightly modified and changed in a manner that would in terms of apples to apples make FCA's claim of copyright infringement preposterous. And yet somehow FCA won. Now before we get to far let's just realize that the ruling is actually simply a recommendation and actually there has been no legitimate action taken by the FTC against Mahindra. This is why Mahindra is now pursuing litigation against FCA and I hope they win it because they have every right to sell a vehicle that hasn't been developed by Willie's in over 70 years. (The roxors roots stem all the way back to the CJ2A or as best we can tell that erra)
In general I find this whole lawsuit to be ridiculous. It looks similar to a design from over 70 years ago that at this point Willy's does not own the copyright to anything other than the seven slot grill. And so you can imagine the frustration that many of us are feeling in relation to this entire case. You've got a company that comes in, sets up shop in Detroit, starts providing jobs and is now in deep muddy water because the courts aren't fair and unbiased. I mean the facts are there, you can take a tape measure out and you can measure a Wrangler and you can measure a Roxor and you will find that none of the dimensions of any of the components match up. Because one is stemming from a design from over 70 years ago and one is a much newer design. In fact the only thing that a Wrangler today shares with Willie's Jeeps from the past really is the seven slot grill and perhaps axles and other chassis components but that's about it. Either way I'm no legal expert I just find the situation to be ridiculous.

You forgot to mention MM540 which was the base for the previous gen Thar. Mahindra for many years has used the Peugeot diesel as it's more economical than gas engines in India. Mahindra used to make a model called Classic based on the old Willys Jeep which was the first incarnation of Thar.
