  • In this recent episode of Spies & Spymasters Virtual Happy Hour, Dr. Alexis Albion, Curator of Special Exhibits, reveals the story of Queen Elizabeth I’s spymaster, Sir Francis Walsingham. The plots, the secrets, the epic battles won and lost. And how do you talk someone into beheading her cousin anyway?
We’ll be joined direct from England by a very special guest: Good Queen Bess herself! AKA actress Airlie Scott, who portrays Queen Elizabeth I in the Spy Museum’s exhibition, she shares some of her thoughts on the burdens of wearing the crown.

I think you did a good job thank you for putting in the time. It's a lot more than I did and that's why I'm watching it. It's interesting enough for me and I learned something.

Anne Boleyn was executed by sword. King Henry VIII brought in a swordsman from France to execute her by Sword.

I learned everything I need to know about the Brits from two sources: Dineen's Story of the Irish Race and Rowan Atkinson's Black Adder!

7:42 So frustrating to genealogists how most people have no clue of kinship. First of all; Mary Queen of Scots is not a descendant of Henry VIII. You are correct that Henry VIII is her granduncle, but we do not descend from our aunts and uncles, we descend from our parents. Secondly; Elizabeth I is Henry VII's granddaughter, Mary Queen of Scots is Henry VII's great granddaughter, therefore they can not be 2nd cousins (second cousins have the same great grandparents), they are 1st cousins once removed. If Elizabeth I had had a child, that child would be Mary's 2nd cousin. Got it?

I've just noticed something very odd: there is no museum video on the infamous Russian spy Anna Chapman; and in fact there are no full-length youTube documentaries about her from any source whatsoever.
We now return you to the comment-section...

What would one put in a video about Chapman?
What secrets did Chapman find for the Russians? Did she recruit any Americans to hand over secrets?
Here's the script for a video on Chapman:
Chapman was trained by the SVR and came to the U.S.
Chapman set up a real estate business as a front.
      The end.

All that clutter at the beginning makes viewers wait and wait before finally getting to the story. The quality of your video and audio is declining.
Placing Ms. Albion in a window to one side does not illuminate the story, rather it distracts.
Walsingham pulled off a spectacular coup by obtaining the Spanish Armada's plans, yet this is raced past in the video, when there should have been much more about it. More time and detail is given about an alcoholic drink that has nothing to do with the story and no one even drinks in the video.
Someone on the staff seems more intent on showing how clever they are than telling the stories.

The channel has been plagued by one oversight after another for years, from wonky audio, to washed-out presentation-screens because nobody thought to draw the window curtains. The only bright spot is the inherent interest of espionage topics.

Yes. The intro was just one cringe after another. Walsingham deserved better.

@@craighenry2979 I agree. It was an opportunity lost. It is hoped they will redo it.
The object of the exercise should be presenting the story and everything else should serve that object.
Here all this other stuff serves to obscure or distract from that.
