BROTHER, ITS 98 DEGREES F OUTSIDE. I spent an hour trying to jimmy the handle from the outside using a coat hanger. Trying to pull the lever from the outside. Took me awhile but i finally got it, for the door not even to open!!!!!! I never put my door handle back on before closing it (was waiting for new handle in mail.) Then of course i cant take the frustration anymore so i look up a video and find this. That little metal rod that pushes those washers down was removed with the the rest of the door handle (DUH) and so all i had to do was push down on that little metal tab with my finger, pop the door opens ! THANKS SO MUCH, saved me a trip to the store this afternoon and more extreme amounts of frustration.
Other CRZ owners have done this fix using cable ties (zip ties) which can be done without the need to remove the latch, I used washers as it allowed fine tune in the amount of slack removed from the mechanism.
Have had this problem for ages but with your video information and other peoples disassembly videos I have fixed it . Thanks, but what a pig of a job to do !
I found taking the handle off was the worse part. I think you should be able to do this fix without the need to touch the handle. Hopefully it lasts a good few years and you know what to do when the passenger side does the same. Glad it helped.
You're welcome. the door card was hard to pull off but found it comes off easier if you start near the speaker cover. If your handle is broken this company sell colour coded handles for about £77 delivered www.amayama.com/en/part/honda/72141szt003zc I ordered a sensor for my Lexus from them UAE to UK took just over a week and they sell genuine parts. Good luck.
Thanks for the great video! Would there be a way to put washers (or something similar, maybe a zip tie) around that rod without taking the door handle out? So only by removing the interior door panel?
Hi Thomas, I doubt cable ties would last a too long if it worked at all. You can get access to that rod by removing the latch mechanism rather than the handle as that handle is a pain to get off! The latch is much easier to take off. When my passenger door goes I was planning on trying to simply bend that rod at one of the angles to open the angle and get rid of some of the play, this should have the same affect as putting the washers on, a strong squeeze on a big pair of pliers on the 90 degree angle of the rod might do the trick to open that angle, perhaps try that first before taking the door latch off. Good news is my door is still very easy to open even through the heatwave we had.
How did you solve it buddy. I have the same problem. Only thing is I put the door card on and closed the door. I am going to have to butcher the door card to get my hands back in. Many thanks for any help
@@alanmountain5804 Hey Buddy Never put the Door panel on if u didn,t test the Function on the Handle and locking mechanism. I really think that you have to cut the Door panel and get a new one. I always tested first and then reinstalled the Door panel.
@@nachtschatten5790thanks for replying buddy. I actually managed today to get the door card off Without butchering it and with the door still closed. It took patience over 2 hours but I did it. I got my hand in and removed the washer. Luckily I had used a rubber washer and it was easy to cut off. The door unlocked and opened on the first attempt after that. Lesson learned. The nut/washer hack is extremely risky. Better off just buying a new door handle. Cheers buddy
On a side note the reason the washer hack is risky is because if the washers are too prominent either height or width wise they prevent the actuator lever from returning to its proper position. This tells the locking mechanism that the car is unlocked when in fact it is still locked. Thus you cannot unlock the door. Once the obstruction is removed it works fine. And we are talking less than a millimeter tolerance. You have to extremely clever or very lucky to get it right.
@@alanmountain5804 Greetings. I'm glad that it still worked. I have already removed and repaired the door handles several times. In the end I just bought two new handles. But after all, you have gained the experience and know how it goes.
