    • @teardowndan5364
      @teardowndan5364 Рік тому +4

      Much of the smoke coming out is likely excess fuel from the amount of blow-by reducing available oxygen and increasing the amount of HCs present in the intake. Add an EFI system to balance that out (subtract the fuel that has no O2 to react with) and it would likely be much cleaner still.

      @@joshmanis9860 An excessive amount of blow-by would pick up oil from the crank case and send it up into the intake. They did notice an excessive amount of smoke and blow-by volume coming out of the crank case and they did decide to pipe that into the intake before their test-drive.
      With a carburettor, you still have the same amount of fuel going in regardless of what the blow-by gasses are made of and you get a lot more of everything-smoke coming out since there is less oxygen all around to burn everything with. With EFI, excess HCs would get balanced out and whatever oil goes through either way would burn much more cleanly.

  • @3rdpig

    Compression rings serve a dual purpose, by keeping the pressure in the combustion chamber they also keep it out of the crankcase. You're to get a lot of crankcase pressure and all the problems that go with that pressure. Might not happen right away, but it will happen.

    It will work for a little while, but the reason the compression rings are made of harder heat resistant material is they do get very hot, especially the top one, so oil compression rings will not last that high up on the piston, he would have had very similar results by just putting in a full normal set of rings on those pistons. A better idea than is to at least hone the bores. They would last longer than.

    But you did a great job trying something that’s not been done before that I know of so keep up the good work & trying different automotive projects to fix everyday car issues.

Make one crankshaft lead the other by 23 degrees to improve scavenging. Beware of Pascal's Law: you cannot compress a liquid, so don't flood the engine with fuel.

    Maybe put oil controll rings in the two bottom groves of the piston and drill the holes they need to get rid of the oil. Then leave the top compression ring in place and make another grove in the piston for a second compression ring between the top of the piston and the original first ring grove. There is some space there for another ring. That might solve the smoking and the blowby issue.

    Those oil rings will lose tension over time cause they can’t handle the pressures from combustion. That’s why compression rings are different materials.

    can you try putting a torque convertor into a manual transmission

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 Рік тому +2

      This actually works pretty well. At least on heavy equipment. I've driven a front loader that had that. At first it was a bit strange, but soon you learned to love it. Thing is you can pop the clutch while standing still and nothing happens other than the engine RPM going down slightly. Let go of the brake and the machine will start moving. For low speed maneuvering you moderate speed with the brakes and never touch the clutch. For a front loader this was just about perfect. Another thing is that it didn't have a reverse gear. Instead there were a separate gear for selecting back or forward without touching the main gearbox. With the torque converter switching from forward to reverse was very quick and seamless. With the way you work with a front loader there's about as much going backwards as going forward, so this was second only to a fully hydraulic transmission or possibly a electric drive system.
      So yes, a torque converter is an interesting addition to a car.
      Oh and with enough engine it's all you need, at least according to Koenigsegg who showed off a hyper car where they skipped the common gearbox, only retaining forward and reverse, and used a massive torque converter. Well that was with a 1100 HP engine so not necessarily the same as putting one on a clapped out Lada...
