You're the first "in depth" tour I've seen and the video pretty much answered all my questions - and I wasn't dissapointed in any of the answers... I think I'm gonna buy one too, but I'm waiting for the Dante version - that's a must for me :) Thanks for the review!
Dante is the standard model, the non-dante ships now as the variant. Dante comes soon. Eyeballing that, for sure. I'm wondering if DCA will be a thing at some point?
Compared with other manufacturers is not cheap. The card should be add one like on TF, CL and QL. Not a different mixer. You could buy without Dante and add later
I am a little confused as I have never used Dante. Does Dante add additional inputs and outputs when you add a piece of gear connected by Dante? Or is it only to extended the existing Inputs and Outputs distance from the DM3 for example to a stage to only have one cable running long distance instead of 16 analog cables?
I’m torn between this and the Behringer wing compact? Looking to do recording and mixing at home and use it for live sound with my band. Thoughts? I have experience with the Wing, it’s pretty great. Haven’t tried the DM3 yet.
Hello! Question: what needs to be done so that the top bar on the iPad reacts with green misters of all channels like on the console itself? thanks in advance🤝
Hi! This is a very nice video, thank you! I'm using a DM3 with Cubase 13 LE Elements, but I don't get how to set it for DAW Control. I thought it was plug-n-play but it is not. I cannot find the "Mackie" or "HUI" or "Mackie HUI" option in Cubase, like the DM3 manual says, and it's driving me nuts. I thought it was plug 'n play. Do I need to manually set every fader or button? Thank you!
Hey Robert Just picked up the DM3 for our 5 piece band. We upgraded from an mg16xu. I understand that the FOH are coming out of output 7 and 8 and have set the gain, Fx, etc and seems to work fine. But how do I get the sound to the monitor speakers on outputs 1-6? We use wedges, no IEMs yet. I've pressed every button on the unit. The mg16 called them aux. Please explain it to me in 12 year old language from start to finish (screens to go into, buttons to press, etc) so I can understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someday we'll have a sound person, but for now, my up most respect to all of you. I'm just a musician.
So, mix 1 and mix 2 groups are the same thing that your mg16 called “auxes”. To send channel one to output one and to a wedge you would have to: 1. Select “mix 1” on the strip on the right side of the screen 2. Faders now should go down to -infinity and represent the signal that’s going to mix1 3. Slide up the fader of the channel you want to send to mix 1 Hope that helps :)
Dear Sir, with regards to the DM3's multi track recording feature, can it record multi track direct to a USB solid state drive & then later can be played back into ther DM3 for mixing or for virtual live sound mixing? I have been using the QSC Touchmix 30 Pro & it has the ability to record up to 32 tracks direct to an external USB hard drive & then it can ber played back into the Touchmix for mixing. One thing that annoys me about the Touchmix is the absence of physical faders. Initially when i bought the Touchmix that i would be ok working with a digital mixer that has no physical faders but after a few months, i really missed not having actual physical faders.....
it's only possible to record stereo mix to to the usb drive. You need a computer to record multitrack. It's really pity for a console that is released in 2023..
@@aksakalli Ya hope they can fix this with a firmware update at some point. Even its only an usb2 interface it should be possible to manage 16ch at 5mb/s. Several other manufactors either have buildin or expandable with a plugin card to multichannel record via SD cards. it's a pitty as I'm pretty sure the Sound /Quality on a Yamaha board is better than both Presonus and Behringer, just to name a few. It's handy to be able to record a live show without a computer and take it home to mix it. The i/o's is a little lagging on the DM3, but the seemless DAW control with Cubase is a nice touch when they don't seem to want to make a new controller for Cubase instead of having to rely on the old Mackie api.
Awesome video! Question: how does Yamaha DM3 compare to the new Allen & Heath CQ-18T? Also, does the DM3 offer any feature or benefit for use with the Yamaha DZR12 speakers? Sometimes digital mixers and speakers made by the same manufacture have a built in processor that works together so that you get the best sound.
So this doesn't seem to have Copy / Paste of channels. That's a big oversight by Yamaha. I hope that becomes available in future firmware updates. That's a vital piece of a digital console. Even the QSC TouchMix8 has Copy/ Paste
I emailed Yamaha support directly and got the answer. It's very hard to see, but if you select the channel and go to the very far right of the screen, there is a very tiny tab with an arrow pointing left. If you swipe that to the left, a pop out window comes up the option to copy the selected channel, then select the channel you want to paste to, and the paste button lights up.
Can it play a stereo file from the USB? As a backing track? Does it have a Playlist maker? Thanks in advance. This mixer is pointed at small bands and many need this kind of functions, but no reviewer touches on them (yet)
@@stella_rt That might be an idea, but if you don't want to mess with any external devices that can fail in hostile conditions (heat, cold, etc), just inserting a small USB stick to have a Playlist would be great.
Thanx for this video. I have a question: can I send the channels from the DAW to the mixer, sum them and then return to the DAW with the L+R sum via USB?
I’m curious about this as well. In the video I can see they are paired. I need 6 separate monitor mixes for my band. Is it doable with how they are paired?
Great video. I run a laptop into this to play backing tracks, and I’m wondering about PC and CC messages- can I use midi to switch the FX on and off, and/or change scenes? Can’t seem to find much in the manual about this.
So I got mine in today, but I’m having trouble getting it to connect with Cubase 12 pro. I’m more concerned about using it as a controller, so are you familiar with Cubase? I’m assuming that it would be through Mackie control but I can’t get it to communicate that way any ideas?

Got two questions. What's the simplest way to set up two different monitor mixes? I need a monitor 1 and monitor 2. And I was messing with the effect and wasn't hearing them and they were on( green) I'm sure I don't have something turned on somewhere.
There’s each channels efx send level to the two efx units that need to be on, there’s the efx sends that need to be on and up and the. The efx returns that need to be on and up. Also need to make sure your not bypassing the efx units themselves
Nice review, thanks. I have been waiting for a real world review and it just proved what i needed to know at 7:08 time, the touch screen fails to respond to your touch, having to touch a particular parameter 3 times to get it to respond is ridiculous thats the same problem with the tf mixers. Did you find that it happens regularly on other sections of the touch screen? Hopefully yamaha will fix that with a firmware update.
I first thought the same but using it at a gig last night I discovered that the first tap allows you to use the one touch knob and the second tap gets you into the parameters.
I haven’t had any issues with the touch screen responding. I’m not sure what you saw in the video but the console did what it was supposed to do. The only time I noticed any lagging was with the GEQ UP ON faders. The gui got choppy but was still responsive
While its 96k, would you say the preamps sound about the same as a TF, or are they better sounding? Im not expecting full Rio quality, but im hoping for better quality than a TF.
Thank you for the in-depth review. The on-screen GUI reminds me of the Allen & Heath consoles with the classic Yamaha mixer build. I'm curious if you can hook up 2 or more of these to expand your fader banks.
