  • In the world of ham radio, there's a lot of mystery and technical theoretical concepts. If you're a "normi" like me, lots of this theory is lost between the ears and the brain. I'm going to explain it in terms I can understand.

Great video! Not all of us are scientists and enginerds. Average Joe explanations are always great to hear.

Finally after watching your channel for years off and on, and I finally got my ticket after passing the technician exam three days ago. Now I need to study for my general, I don't have equipment yet but at least I'm in the data base. Look forward to chewing the rag with you in the future

Hi Bob! I'm working a vertical right now and it works, Directional antennas have that advantage to focus and null out stronger signals. I think that's the ticket! Thanks for the Video. 73s Jeff KJ7JYJ

Thanks Bob for the Info interesting all these years operating did not know anything about pixie dust anyway bands have been noisy these days especially when I am operating POTA Yep I am like you Bob I want to hear the weak signals especially the DX ones I only run 100 watts and a Vertical 73’ Sal / KM4PPV

Damn brother. What antennas are you using for 40,80? Sounds like electrical noise there.
I run IPO only on 40-160. Amp 1 on 20,15 and amp 2 on 10,6. Dnf at 5 and rf gain rolled back on low bands. I do prefer horizontal wires for those bands. I do have the electric company on speed dial and they know me well. We’ve mitigated a lot of noise together.

Know how to work your RF gain control and know that leaving it at full all of the time isn't the best way to use it.

So I’m in a dilemma. For the last year, my ex fiancé and I have split ways but she has decided to make my life a living hell and MADE me look schizophrenic looking for voices that I’ve been hearing everywhere I go. My exs voice is one of them and 2 other people. Could she be using some trick to make her voice come out of anything that is connected to Bluetooth/bandwidth? One example is with my Roommates. I bought a new puppy who escaped out of the yard at night and while looking for the puppy in different locations of the field we were in, we all heard a man’s voice in the sky that echoed. The weird thing is the man was yelling my dogs name, Megalodon, and my roommates heard it as well. The echo was covered up by some weird white noise as well in the sky and whenever I tried recording it, I could NEVER get a good recording. I have a couple and that’s it out of hundreds of videos I recorded. My ex made me lose my 17 year job by broadcasting her moaning and masturbating while I lived in the house with her and stayed in the guest room. I shit you not, I can also hear myself talking to the 3 people telepathically. I have a good guess that it’s my ex because of all the other things she was doing like getting Mental health pickup orders on me involuntarily because she would come home unannounced when she should’ve been at work and finds me looking in vents and she somehow knew I was looking for something and that’s when she called the police and got a mental health pick up order. When we went to court, that was the clearest yet quietest I ever heard my exs voice and it was her non stop in the court room f*cking a guy named Brandon. The reason why I know it was Brandon is because she kept saying his name. During this time she was also on her phone quite a bit as if she was texting someone to let them know they have it too loud or maybe to turn it up in between breaks. No one else heard it or didn’t want to ask the question in the court room “Does anyone else hear someone having sex with a guy named Brandon”?
Does anyone have any answers to this? I HAD a good run in the stock market which is when I bought my ex and i this house that she did not contribute to any downpayment yet feels to be entitled to $40,000 for 8 months of living at the house I dumped my life savings in and now I’m broke me cannot afford an attorney while she is suing 😂. She purposefully put me in pine rest with the noises she or whoever is helping her 2 out of 3 times and I’m 99% sure she acted as my spouse to gain my health records and give them to her lawyer who would then use my “Psychiatric disorder” against me and file for obtaining property rights

For one thing your S8/S9 isn't likely to really be S8/S9 -- you'll notice that if you adjust your RF gain your S meter will change. It's pretty well known that non-SDR rigs have got inaccurate SMeters. So all the "you're S9+10" is horse pucky unless you calibrate your rig to a known signal level. SDRs on the other hand tend to have real SMeters that don't change with the RF gain. You're supposed to measuring the antenna level. And some rigs like the IC7300 Smeter do 3dB per interval below S9 instead of 6dB -- so they look "really quite" when in fact they are just "really inaccurate" as an S3 signal will actually show S0

The guys with the stacked antennas are going for the weak ones, stations your wire or small yagi can't hear.
Case in point, I work VHF+ weak signal, on 2 meters I run four 12 element 20 foot long yagis with 21dbd gain. I use a beacon 350 miles away as a propagation indicator. The beacon runs 10 watts to a pair of stacked loops so maybe 3dbd gain on that end. Today with a snowstorm going on it is just readable, barely... bad band conditions. When the band is normal it will run S3ish. Good propagation I can see as much as 20 over 9 or more...
I can hear the weak ones others can't, I can work further as the band may be fading out... I don't run stacked yagis to work the guys 100-150 miles away! I can do that with a single yagi.
And yes, 2 meters is more than just line of sight that everyone on FM tells you! My longest contact from EN24ho (grid square) in MN was to EL15hu, 1,315 miles! That was tropo ducting. During that same opening I heard CO2OJ in Cuba, 1700 miles! Didn't work him, I could be heard over the wall of 4 land stations calling him. Via EME(moon bounce) I have worked AU, NZ, RU, most of EU, South Africa, a few in South America...
