I'm going to watch three videos per day and try to watch this whole class in a month, on dog walks. You're a great teacher, thank you for your Service.
You a GREAT teacher! I don’t even need to take notes(although I occasionally jot things down). I also love the interaction with your students! I still cannot believe they are high school students! I am a retired teacher and am so grateful that can listen to “lecturers” like yourself to fill in the gaps in my education!
am enjoying your lectures... u teach in such an entertaining way I was just going through videos to find explanations in building my SOP for Masters Application, now i got very interested in ur classes.. thank you very much Bruce
Have been interested in the Ionians (presocratics) for quite awhile. I stumbled on to this lecture via Carl Sagen's ¨Cosmos¨on UA-cam. If Professor Gore is still teaching, may he have continued success. I understand from the comments this is a high school class. I recall my high school days with affection due to such instructors.
Great video! The fact that it's actually in a classroom is, at least, very entertaining. I study philosophy mostly by myself and your videos has been serving as guide to me (Philosophy in Brazilian public schools and colleges is, basically, a history class.) Keep it up, and thank you, very much!
How come there's no comments ? This teacher is awesome ... I study philosophy in Belgium, and right know I am learning thanks to some American teacher :D this is awesome (although I have to translate everything)
Sir, I am inspiring your Greeks philosophy lecture as yours is critical, historical, political, epistemological reasoning and easy to understand. Thank you sir
"Common knowledge." Give that man an A. He is clearly blessed with far sight! I've read that Thales identified as Phoenician (and male) and held religious affiliations that spoke of an education in Egypt.
Great presentations and I am enjoying the classes as if I am actually attending them in college. One correction to be made about the main characteristics of Ionian philosophers is that the concept of Hylo-zoism is not restricted with water but related with "the matter" in general. They were believing the matter was alive. (Also, it would have been Hydro-zoism if the concept was restricted with water)
Thank you for this lecture, Mr. Gore. I'm a Catholic living in the UK and I'm supplementing my own reading through your lectures. Could I just ask this: At what level of education is this class?
These lectures were given to some very bright high school seniors, about 18 years of age, in a philosophy class in a private Christian school here in Spokane. Thanks very much for your interest!
I am just starting this lecture series, having finished the historical context (and currently reading through the book you wrote on that subject) and the series on church history. Have you written any other books besides this historical biblical context book? Also, any attempt at a video to get in the minutiae of the biblical tribes of Genesis?
It's certainly possible, especially given the Sumerian and Babylonian interest in science and astronomy. I'm not aware of any firm historical evidence for this connection, however. Thanks for your interest!
Actually the Sankhya Philosophy is the first naturalist philosophy in the World. And it is way more complex even then modern naturalism. One think to understand is that there is also a theistic Sankhya Philosophy even older then the atheist Sankhya philosophy, but this is another story.
I've just finish reading the biography of John the Gold Mouth. He also was suposed to be killed "discretly", so it does not look as a crime, not even by God. For if a human being did not exist, how can he die ? Simple!

Thank you for sharing this! Your passion is great!
Thanks for teaching the philosophy sir. Very interesting and useful for studying the theology also.
I so love your lecturers.

I'm Catholic too, and I also love these lessons, all of the series in this channel!
What is your educational training ? You are a bright mind for sure
Btw I used some of your history bible lessons when I led a bible study on Daniel
Undergrad philosophy minor. M.A. in history. J.D. (law). Thanks for your kind assessment of my increasingly feeble mind.
I pray these young folks (now older) are walking in the Truth in 2023🙏
THANKS
UR LECTURES IS REALLY HELPING ME IN MY EXAM
I am happy to be of service!
Bruce gore is the best teacher ever.... 😻
Thales used the word water as a metaphor for the flow of life.
Heraclitus - change is the only constant.
I find that Anaxamander is very overlooked. His idea is very distinct. Like Heraclitus.

Watched all of it 42:16
Which book do you refer to for these lectures on Greek philosophy .....?
I have several references I refer to, along with an undergraduate degree in philosophy, and years of casual reading in these matters.
@@brucegore4373 okay I am also an undergrad student pursuing philosophy and since Greek philosophy is our core course so I was a bit inquisitive...
Does anyone know where Bruce Gore teaches or his webpage
I like Dorian mode. But I didn't know that Asia minor was a major scale! :D
Dorian is best!
I don't think any of these names appear in the Monty Python philosophy song.
Thank you
Interesting thank you.
I was eating my lunch while I watched. I found this hard to masticate to. 😉
Would you agree that Ionian thought came by way of the Mesopotamian civilisation?
It's certainly possible, especially given the Sumerian and Babylonian interest in science and astronomy. I'm not aware of any firm historical evidence for this connection, however. Thanks for your interest!
wonderful teacher, just one thing. hylozoism is the the belief that life flows through all that is. has nothing to do with water.
