This comic really takes me back to watching the animated series as a kid. It manages to pull off the classic concept of the original series while making it as cool as it was in your head as a kid. BTW, his name is Cliffjumper
Gotta be honest, I'm never buying a comic again that isn't creator owned. The quality can change so drastically when the crew inevitably switches out. I'm still annoyed about Haunt from years ago.
@@jonugent42not even close of how it works in manga. Either the manga gets canned for lack of popularity in their magazines or a big hit will get milked as much as possible. One Piece is still around cause of popular demand and the publisher pretty much not allowing it to end.
If only channels like yours ever gave positive recommendations for modern comics… Seriously, though, it’s great to see you enjoy something! Thanks for the rec!
I have enjoyed the series so far. The Decepticons are gleefully evil (not cartoonish) and squashing people. Using xenophobic Cliffjumper in the role usually reserved for Bumblebee is refreshing. Like the Easter eggs of making all the town police cars the same model as Prowl. The writer knows the property and acts like he loves it.
NPR Zack is a pretty good look lol, but having you review Transformers positively makes me feel like I'm in the twilight zone I swore you said you hated them, the difference a creative team can make is eerie 😂 I felt your rage at the end before you realized you were in fact recording but I'll definitely pick these up next time I'm at my LCS you sold me!
Oh trust me, as a long-suffering Transformers fan, I've already ordered myself to get this third issue. This series brings the same energetic wonder of those wonky 80's comics, but tied to a more modern world.
I’ve got my three issues but there’s no subscriber option coming up on Amazon. The site has suggested I subscribe to Void Rivals and that’s a pass; too slow, too clunky, too predictable. Now, I want to to go back to my Skywarp groupie days of purple and black clothing with purple-dyed bangs. I also NEED that second sigils tattoo.
Just ordered the all 3 from my local comic store. They have the regular covers of 2 and 3, but only had the "blank sketch variant" of 1 so i paid an extra $2 to get a blank cover. Gonna pick them up on Saturday.
It's like a marginally more violent take on the G1 series with crazy wrestling takedowns and I'm loving every. Single. Pixel of it. I don't know how things will go after Warren Johnston leaves, but it keeps close to this approach then I'm 100% sticking with it I haven't read the G.I. Joe books, but I've actually been enjoying "Void Rivals' more than I thought I would too. What a nice feeling to enjoy reading comics! On another note, ever since I saw E.T back when I was very little, I wanted that walking, wailing turd thing _dead._ 'Child-friendly design' my ass!
That cover art clearly harkens back to the roots of early Transformers comix: specifically those square (yet) rotund shapes/human-like expressions. I will be checking it out 4'su!
Already on my pull list, glad it's picking up in quality. Kirkman's Energon universe is really promising so far and I've been enjoying every second of it
I went through coughing for a couple decades, I finally told my physician I wanted to get to the bottom of it. even when i didn't cough I had a wheeze in my lungs. I started with an ear nose throat doctor who found nothing, then went to a lung dr and got Xrays couldnt find anything then they did a scope and found a lesion on the entryway of my middle lobe. It would become infected and I Would need antibiotics every couple months. I wound up having the middle lobe removed to get rid of the lesion. I no longer have to worry about coughing fits, or constantly battling lung. infections.
This issue was amazing, really hope that when DWJ's run ends they get somebody just as good ( from what I understand there's only twelve issues and he's only gonna be on them for six idk ). Also red guy that got shot was Cliffjumper, which is kind of funny because he's normally the one dying but sort of took Bumblebee's place here.
Is there a source confirming this? I tried to look this up but I didn’t see anything. If it’s a rumor, I hope it’s not true because Layman is in my never buy list.
@@lukejohnson3715 there is an Energon Universe FCBD issue coming out that has 3 new stories and the word is that the new transformers creative team will debut in that issue. Jon Layman and Ryan Ottley are doing the Transformers story.
Can you look at the word balloons in the dialogue that they're using in this comic. Something I really do love. Also it's not commonly seen in American Comics but they're doing a great job
It's a pretty cool transformers comic up until now but what is kinda of a bummer is their using old designs instead of making new ones idk I like it when they use new designs for characters like in(transformers prime ,animated, armada,Dreamweave) it feels like they trying to cash in nostalgia by using the same designs again and again
I recall a while back when you reviewed the crossover they had with terminator and saying you didn't really care about the franchise as a whole. To go from that to singing the praises of this series based off basically two issues, speaks volumes
I do not get how Daniel Warren Johnson isn’t bigger than he is. He’s such a talent, that if this was the ‘90s he’d have some X-Men title all to himself. This guy should’ve been given Star Wars on the back of his Old Man Skywalker comic along. His Beta Ray Bill comic should’ve just been a run in the normal Thor series (so people would actually know it was a thing) and when it was over, if he wanted to keep doing Thor, they should’ve just let him have Thor. Like, he should be headlining some premier title at Marvel, not doing one off things for the last few years that just get buried at DC and Marvel. Giannis Milonogiannis is like that too. I don’t know how that guy wasn’t ever given a run on X-Men. I get the the very distinct impression the guy loves X-Men. He seems to love the X-Men and Masamune Shirow, and if the ‘90s are any indication, Masamune Shirow influence and the X-Men are two things that go good together. You’d think after the Prophet revival and Old City Blues you’d see him get more mainstream work...but nothing really. And the mainstream work he does get (which is oddly not much) sadly always seems to get colored wrong. Prophet wasn’t. But his GI Joe stuff was.
I knew that Johnson was warming up in the first issue, when you felt he was going through the motions a bit. I’m at the point now where if all these comics are as good, in a year or two, Hasbro needs to take them all (Void Rivals, Transformers, and Joe), hand them to Studio Trigger, and just let them animate the whole lot of em.
Man, I still lowkey (highkey actually) hate it when people are able to harm Transformers (I know it's way secondary for the plot and one's own enjoyment of it, but I still find the concept ridiculous), but even with that bias, I do find the comic rather interesting so far, so I'll definitely be looking forward to more.
I thought he said 6 issues then staying on to write at least. It’s been great!!! He’s been using the Gundam The Origin manga as inspiration. The arm beat down was used in a scene in the Gundam 08th MS Team OVA.
I love DJW work, but it’s like he has ADHD and works only on mini series. I’ve heard him on interviews say he gets bored on projects quickly. What worries me is that when he leaves transformers it’s not going to live up to DJW stuff
Just glad this issue isn't promoting a non binary trans disable black woman autobot.
Yet...don't give them any ideas.
As IDW Megs sorta said, WMDs have no time for namby-pamby stuff during wartime. Fingers crossed.
I was sold on it before, but an order? At your command.

Robert Kirkman should get the comic rights to TMNT because IDW keeps ruining everything
