I have a hard time buying the coaches talking about young players on D when they spent the last spring and summer practices telling us we have great depth. So which is it? I think our staff is becoming adept at telling us what we want to hear.
Maybe this is dumb, but until the defensive secondary gets their legs under them could we possibly play the linebackers a little deeper (at least sometimes) to help out the passing game?
Offense needs to spend more time on the field than defense. No 1 play touchdowns (unless we need to just take a shot) but clearly, we need as fresh legs as possible on defense
I think fresh legs are needed, but I think more than anything the defense just needs to play with instinct and not “think” That comes from knowing the game plan and allowing themselves to play free
Defense should blitz and blitz some more. Pressure can alleviate some of what we saw last weekend. Wazzu will have no problems or qualms putting points up Texas Tech’s wazzu, so might as well make it as frustrating as possible for them. In other words, defense needs to swing their sword. Offense needs to wear that clock down as much as possible. Absolutely no point in rushing to score 50 the whole game when the opponent puts up 49.
Issue with the blitz is how fast WSU throws the football. They on average got the ball out in 2.2 seconds last week. Hard to get pressure on the QB let alone get him down in that amount of time. When you blitz and they get the ball out that quick, that leaves your secondary in a vulnerable spot
1. Tim Deruyter meeds to attend the game. 2. He needs to have expectations of our secondary. 3. He needs to make adjustments if what he tries ain’t working.
TT sending RBs up the middle will test (and wear down) WSUs light d-line and suspect LBs. That was an issue last week against lowly Portland State, who ran 200+ yards. That should open up the passing game for your more experienced QB and receivers. Of course, as a WSU Alumn, I hope that they make adjustments and be up to challenging that strategy. Go Cougs!
That’s where Tech struggled most in the run game was between the tackles. That said, still using those run plays and then go PA will open things up drastically for Tech imo Should be a fun game to watch for both fanbases
Be able to make adjustments in game (ex. Colorado )it at least looked like they made adjustments in game, we did not. If we can’t do this we will get torched. linebackers need to make some plays they looked lost and uninvolved last week. NEED TO Cover the flats.
Haha! Love ya RC, but Tech a top 10 offense with Kittley?! Bwahahahaahaha. Not gonna happen. I vow that if Kittley calls a top 10 offense this year, I will never post a negative thing about Tech on this channel again 😉.
The offense will need to be efficient the entire game. Fading out at halftime is not option. Move the chains and put up 4:23 TD’s. The defense is still going to give up more than we would like even if they improve. We will have to outscore at least through the NonCon schedule.

Stunt D tackles wide ends contain push everything to the middle. Offense is fine. We need a couple of stops. Terrible start on defense but alot of it can easily be fixed.
The Dline needs to get pressure on the QB this weekend I don’t even really care if they don’t get a sack but if they get pressure and force bad throws or throw aways or turnovers that would go along way to the confidence of the defense and huge to help us win
I'm not ready to trash the defensive line yet . . . ESPECIALLY when they barely have over 2 seconds to get to the quarterback. But the mounting injuries may do that for me.
I’m afraid our defense is too young. Contrary to the median Tech fan belief rn, they ARE talented, they do have size and speed, but they’re not experienced and old and fully developed like many Big 12 foes will be.
It’s a more than fair take and a thought that has crossed my mind too. The defense is 100% talented, but I think fans often don’t understand how much experience plays a factor in a teams success
Portland state isn't good but they are better than Abilene Christian. WSU also took there starters out towards the end of the 2nd quarter when they had 49 points. TTU has alot on their hands and stuff to fix especially with the Palouse ibeing very hard to play at. TTU secondary needs to step up and the line to get pressure if they want to stop the WSU offence. With the WSU punter out the special teams might be able to make some plays
I think the communication was bad because the leader of the defense wore the green dot for the first time, and he was busy listening to the coach in the helmet, instead of talking to his teammates. He was reacting to the coach , but then it was too late and the opponent would snap the ball
Get pressure on the Quarterback. Db’s to grow up in a hurry get their eyes right and just play the position. Offensive line to get 5% better more so run than pass protection.
Since our defense can’t stop anyone, keep their offense off the field with long, sustained drives. Might be hard to do with Brooks questionable for the game, but it is worth a shot Decrease penalties No turnovers. Get a couple
As a Lubbockite and a lifelong fan, this defense and coaches SUCK!!!!!! I’m so tired of this program, I’m done with this season 2 games in, not giving them anymore of my time, win or lose.
They literally have back-back-to-back winning seasons something Texas Tech hasn't done since 2008-2010... they've done plenty and will continue to get better
Run the ball. Control the clock. Stop the constant nascar nonsense. I would like to see wsu make some key mistakes. Turnovers and big play dropped passes would help the cause.
As long as Behren is healthy and slinging it to all those weapons we can stay in any game. You don't need the defense to be great, you don't even need them to be good. You just need them to have a pulse. History says deruyter can at least do that. Tech 47 - WSU 34
Draw all the conclusions to kingsbury and Mahomes, but I still Believe this defense is more talented and can get the job done at an unequivocally higher success rate than any defense Kliff ran out there.
What is the biggest key for Texas Tech to beat Washington State?
We need the defense to show up.

Forget about last wk. Focus on wazzu!
Much, much better coaching.
Preparedness. You want the opposing team frantically trying to adjust to what you're doing, not the other way around. C'mon coaches, do your job well.
More play action passing sounds awesome!

I think Tech has depth, but it is unproven. That depth is talented just young.
I don’t think it has to be one of the other

In theory yes, but would open up the run lane more and put more pressure on the DL

No argument that the best defense is a good offense but I will always look for the next TD. If you put up seven every time, you won’t lose very often.

They should cut way back on screen passes. Throw the ball down field to gain yardage.
