This video is an interesting one. The team isn't terrible yet, but has the pieces in place for a sharp and dramatic collapse. The cracks have been showing on the Cavaliers for a few years now, and it began to exacerbate over the past month and a half.
The team has been purged, but a lot of questions and tension remain. The Cavaliers organization is either damned if LeBron goes one way or damned if he goes the other. The question is how will Cleveland pick their poison.
It takes a decent bit for me to be interested in an NBA team, but the Cavaliers have done it. It's going to be fascinating to see how these next six months unfold.
I know, I'm either a few weeks too late or a few months too early, but screw it, the Cavs are an interesting discussion point.

As someone from Pittsburgh I can agree that it's a very non-basketball market. Like we have fans, obviously, but no one has the fervor of a Yinzer for a team out of the area. Plus it's the 76ers to our right and the Cleveland to the left.
But like cmdridah said, it's such an individualist game with 2-3 good teams per year that there's only so much to be said. There's more to be said about a dysfunctional football team or hockey team who fail consistently.

There's this thing called the Luxury Tax that Dan Gilbert is getting sick and tired of paying. Considering that Cleveland has done nothing to relieve their financial woes, we're looking at an implosion that either leads to the selling of the Cavs to a majority owner or tanking of mass proportion followed by a gutting of the roster. Neither are fun to watch and one of them is bound to happen regardless of whether or not LeBron stays in Cleveland.

Nobody wants them and you can't waive players like JR Smith and Tristan Thompson, because then you get nothing back for them. Whether you want to admit it or not, they're not going anywhere and they're staying in Cleveland until their contracts aren't scary, so in both JR Smith and Tristan Thompson's case, until the 2019-2020 season, of in which JR Smith will be 35 and declining and Tristan Thompson will be 29 and unable to spread the court. That's a big L. Why else did those guys not get traded at the deadline? It's because they aren't worth their contracts. That's just something Cleveland's gonna have to live with.

I actually like what the Cavs have done. They replaced the old guys with young athletic players that can keep the team a float even if LeBron leaves. The cap won't be a problem for long as LeBron is sure to retire/leave in the next 3-5 years. It's working out great rn too

While the Cavs won a championship, it was arguably the catalyst for the Superteam arms race going on in the Western Conference. The Warriors pursued KD to give them a player who could consistently defend LeBron without doubleteaming him.
I was waiting for someone to do this and couldn’t be more thankful you did it Tree. I’ve closely followed the Cavs payroll for the last several months and quickly realized their system will implode with or without LeBron. Couldn’t happen to a classier organization.

Which is part of the problem. When you've got a franchise that's too reliant on one player, you're bound to fail when said player either leaves, gets hurt, or declines. It happened with the Edmonton Oilers with Wayne Gretzky, and it's gonna happen again with the Cavs with LeBron James, one way or another.

Are you kidding me? Cleveland's always been financially inept or very bad since 2000. This video's been 18 years coming. Literally the only reason the Cavs have ever been relevant is because of LeBron James. Take that aspect out of consideration, and their best player is Kevin Love, who's only been around for four years. The Cavs' saving grace is that this time when LeBron James leaves them again, they actually prepared for the future by acquiring young talented players that can defend.
