As someone who has been watching your videos since your Hitmonchan video seeing you revamp the first Pokémon I saw you post after subbing to your channel but in yellow gives me warm and fuzzies in a different kind of way. You've come such a long way since your early stuff and it's really cool that I can say I've seen you and your content grow and improve from more of less the start. The only reason that Likitung isn't totally forgotten to me is because of the really memorable Pokemon Stadium mini-game I played as a kid. I kind of hated him as a kid but honestly now that I am old I am very partial to pink pokemon and I love the ones with dumb, vacant doughy faces so he's growing on me. What an absolute goon.
I always liked Lickitung in gen 1, but hated you could only get one as a trade. I used one for a "team rocket run" where Weezing, Arbok, meowth (one run as persian, one run as just meowth), Lickitung (Jessie's), and Victreebell (James's) with a noncombatant HM friend. Lickitung was usually the star of the team with the versatile moveset! Also, Braeden Mclean mentioned the channeler should be named Mandy after "mandatory" and a little based off the creepy girl Mandy from "Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" that I'd like to second! Perhaps a title of Mandy the status witch, or just Mandy. :)
Yeah I'll be totally honest I also forget this Pokemon a lot. I remember Lickilicky more because its name is really funny but I didn't even know where you could find a Lickitung in Yellow. What a journey this run was. Sub Hour by a very convincing margin. Congrats!

"I know you're saying, 'But Scott, I don't have time to watch a 3rd playthrough.' Don't worry, here's my 4th attempt." Kudos for the perseverance. Lickitung didn't deserve the royal treatment but it certainly got it.
I recently stumbled on this channel, and it's been so interesting to see the evolution from the earlier videos being just RIFE with PP jokes and girlfriend references to the newer, flashier and more "professional" ones. Both types have entertained me equally. Thanks for all the hard work Scott!
Man, can you like imagine trying to do a solo run through a modern Pokemon game with something like Aggron and running into the Fighting/Fighting type that is Venomoth? 180 Defense won't mean a damn thing! Also half of your stab moves will be double resisted, but that's not the main story here. You got the double weakness to Fighting which is already horrid. But then you gotta remember that Venomoth gets double STAB on its Fighting type moves. Remember that it's hidden ability became Adaptability in the latest games? Let's not forget the mandatory double Juggler trainer battle as well. One Venomoth with Close Combat and an Expert Belt and then all the other Pokemon are Prankster Sableye's with Helping Hand, Quash, Fake Out and Confuse Ray. The hell was Gamefreak thinking?
Had to stop about 20 minutes through to shoutout the Freeze + Stat-Boost strategy used multiple times in this video. There is something so refreshing about getting an early freeze for a guaranteed setup and potential sweep in Gen 1. Super fun video, Scott!
Lickitung is a trolly tank and plays kind of like a Clefable, Wigglytuff, Polywrath, Golduck or slowbro you gotta either set up early on with a move like amnesia or swords dance or rely strictly on a good move pool like having ice beam and thunderbolt.
I have an idea that maybe, MAYBE, you could do that wouldn't give you a workload that isn't unreachable for you, who is very timely and efficient. Gen 1 pokemon in Gen 3, to see if super powerful gen 1 pokemon, such as Tauros, for example, seeing if they still feel good and hold up to being solid pokemon still. Obviously a direct comparisons would be.. difficult, at minimum, but if it could be done, reasonably, it would be neat to see! But, regardless, I'm always happy watching all your stuff, Scott! It's all great work
The last run really shows the strength of RBY XP Router. Statistics and great analysis is so fantastic to improve the runs. Really glad that you finished this run, Scott!
I first found Lickitung in the Pokemon stadium minigame with sushi and Lickitung as potential character. I played a run of red only with it later before gen 3 came out I think
I really like the final set you came up with, for Lickitung; I feel like you often rely a bit too much on Rest and especially Mimic, but I think, this time, you truly used Rest to its strengths without over-relying on it, and you have the time and consistency to show for it (of course, I'm a layman, when it comes to speedrunning, so I'm only just saying my take from observing your playthroughs).
I’m trying to challenge myself to use rest just a little less. Sometimes it’s from fear. Like winning a battle on red health consistently feels scarier than winning with green health. Even if the outcome is equally favourable. Rest is certainly part of my “style” but I don’t want to get stuck using it because of bias or laziness and never investigate alternatives.
Lickitung is really adorable in the thumbnail 😊. It looks so happy, after finally getting the time it deserves, even after 5 attempts and after so long. Well done! Lickitung's speed and it's wide movepool was making the routing kind challenging in a way. Usually whenever I do a solo run, I look at the stats, and then I can determine what type of attacker that certain pokemon needs to be. But with Lickitung, it was kind of confusing. Because in order to get its best time it had to be a bit of everything, which was surprising and interesting approach with a normal type. 🤔 By the way, what's kind of funny about Lickitung's level up moves is that doesn't get lick😂.
Nintendo: There are four of the toughest trainers at the end of the game called the Elite Four. They are Lorelei... Scott: We don't talk about Bruno, no, no, no.
Ah, Lickitung; the licking Pokémon that couldn't lick. I love the design of this Chewit coloured lizard-like creature but never used one before. For a mid-to-late-game only Pokémon in most regions, it's stats are rather... lacklustre (wouldn't think it would have less Attack than Special, even after the split). Curious to see how this plays out though. 3:28 - Wouldn't result in Bide accumulating all the damage for those 3-5 turns of Disabled damage though. That sounds like you just made Bide stronger and thus a fair riskier play. 10:19 - Ironically, the tubby and hungry slow-moving lizard has tons of stamina. 15:23 - I'm pretty sure this counts as a pun so it's going to pain me to say this but... how about Mandy, because the Channeler is "mandatory." 21:03 - Sad Lickitung hurts my soul. C'mon buddy; it's just a spot of bad luck. Chin up! 28:35 - Deletes Ice Beam for Earthquake, then in the following fight, proceeds to use Mimic to get Ice Beam back. Just rather amusing how that played out. 38:10 - I think you may have gone a little insane here. Is a faster speed worth it when you're accumulating a higher reset count? I would assume the ranking at the end would take both metrics into account. It's funny that you mention that you're not a fan of Lickitung and then proceed to play through Pokémon with it five times in a row.
I bet Scott could be in the running for the guiness world record for most playthroughs of a Pokémon game I know he started after Jrose but each of Scott’s videos includes like five playthroughs
Ah, Scott's doing seventy playthroughs per pokemon, just like in the good ol' days. Funny that he's so passionate to make Lickitung of all things be as quick as possible
Yo, just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos! Also, I beg of you, please update your playlists. I enjoy putting on a playlist to sleep, as that when I usually start your videos, and like to start with one of the new ones because I know I won't fall asleep for at least an hour. I know this sounds stupid, but I like experiencing the new vids and then helping in a small way with ad rev through the night. At least in my mind if it's most nights it'll add up eventually lmao
Is it ever useful to save Bubblebeam TM until right before Giovanni and just use watergun for the self-destructing hiker? Then you don’t have to waste a slot on surf, but have an okay water move for his ground types.
I always think about this. If the Pokemon has access to Ice Beam, I don't think that saving Bubblebeam is worth it. Yes it does more damage, but Rhydon's special is so bad that Ice Beam is good enough. Plus, Ice Beam is useful against the following rival's Sandslash and Exeggcute (which can cause some problems, specifically Stun Spore paralysis).
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I love catching this fresh comment by random chance. You responding to a comment that's 3 months old highlights exactly how big your "gotta read them all" comment backlog is! 3 months worth of comments to go... How many comments did you receive across your super busy (and hopefully profitable) December? That's gonna be a big speed bump ;)
Weirdly enough the Pokemon I always forget in gen 1 is Wigglytuff. For some reason I think Jigglypuff you it's evolution in gen 2, even if I've seen it in Pokemon the first movie so many times.
I think you can also find it near the power plant. Or maybe it's just a trainer who uses it. I'm surprised they didnt make Jessie and James use a victreebell and lickitung in yellow.
I saw you get the third run just over an hour and I was like "There's no way he's gonna settle for that. Not Scott." And I was glad to see that I was right
I hate to say it Scott, but when you mentioned not using Surf all I can think of was "RIDE THAT SURF!" from Pokemon Stadium. I might be biased to the move as a result of that audio cue.
I’ve always loved Lickitung! I love that it’s a silly lizard, I loved it’s animations in Pokémon Stadium, I loved its mini-game, I loved it in the anime! I used to pretend to be one as a kid, and stomp around with my tongue out! I was a weird kid lol. I wonder if it’s tongue gets stored in that massive tail?
The beta names for Pokemon like Tonguetyd are so fun. Koffing and Weezing were NY and LA respectively, and Gyarados had the incredibly metal name of SKULLKRAKEN
So like I made the nickname comment as a joke dud comment for the algorithm, but learning the justification for why you called it Tonguetyd warrants another one. That's super cute.
About to do this run. Saw this a long time ago and forgot I did. Sorry if I bother you by leaving random comments, but I love these vids, even the old ones.
I could have sworn you can get lickitongue from oak’a aide who is at the fuchsia city side of cycling road looking through the binoculars… am i thinking of the remake?
Dude. This isn’t Jrose channel. There’s a reason we’re all here. Why in the world would you think we WOULDN’T wanna see a fourth run…?😂 It’s what we live for. You’re our favourite channel hahaha
Its so funny that lickitung is only available in cerulean cave, yet has a similar bst to an unevolved Pokémon. At least theres marc the in-game trade. Ive never used this Pokémon or lickilicky
29:25 wonder if body slam would have KO'd there, even resisted, since it looked like the badge boost got reset but swords dance and stab were still there.
Hey dude, love the content. Would you ever consider mixing it up on the background music side? I am an audio-only listener and would love some diversity if possible!
You know Id love to see the current growth rate next to the level. I may not know the leveling type chart, so telling me something has a slow growth rate only means so much, but having a 0.65% Growth rate at level 32 gives me alot of information about how rough hes gonna be having it coming up
Growth rate isn't a percentage. It's a formula that determines how many experience points a Pokemon needs to reach the next level. It's not a simple modifier that is applied to the experience earned. I've been thinking about how to show this on the overlay without it becoming too congested. It is information I'd like to see during the runs.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I know this comment is a couple weeks old, however I think the best way to show the effects of growth rate would be to show a comparison to what the pokemon's level would be if it was part of the most plentiful experience group; the medium-fast group. This information is really only relevant for the slow/fast groups in Gen 1/2 and the erratic and fluctuating groups in gen 3.
This is definitely a ditto, I'm a dittology, I can see features that only a ditto tranform in a licktung would have, like the tongue being 0.0001cm bigger.
i think licktung is probably one of the best designs in my opinion. it actually looks far better than something like wigglypuff or dragonite(not that i dislike dragonite, but it doesnt really fit the dratini and dragonair looks). and it feels far more natural than something like magnemite or hitmonlee(i mean, its supposedto be a living being, but it has no mouth or nose or anything).
I nominate Scott for the honourary title of Professor. He's done more pokemon science than any of the lore Profs.
Yes

"Professor Scott"? I really like the sound of that. 👍

An improvement by almost a third! Very impressive.
That Lickitung art is so freaking cute
Weirdly enough the Pokemon I always forget in gen 1 is Wigglytuff. For some reason I think Jigglypuff you it's evolution in gen 2, even if I've seen it in Pokemon the first movie so many times.
Finally!! The best mon ever
15:20 If I have the correct Trainer (first one on 4F), I believe this is Channeler Laurel.
North of the border just did this pokemon as his clay figure, so I'm watching it again.
I think you need to do this one one more time
Soo many reruns, glad you achieved your goal!
Wow, I would not have expected lickitung to be such a beast.
Lickitung's back sprite looks like Kitty telling Michael Bluth to say goodbye to THESE!!!
This madlad healed 2 times after Brock until celedon.
I think you can also find it near the power plant. Or maybe it's just a trainer who uses it. I'm surprised they didnt make Jessie and James use a victreebell and lickitung in yellow.
Just a trainer with it by the power plant
I saw you get the third run just over an hour and I was like "There's no way he's gonna settle for that. Not Scott." And I was glad to see that I was right
You were :) I had to do it.
This is one I wanted to see :) lickitung is one that usually a forgotten one
I gesso Bruno's father is a rich chairman or president of Indigo League association or something like that. Nothing else explains him on Elite 4
Thats probably it.
It may have taken five runs, but you got there! Congrats!
The beta names for Pokemon like Tonguetyd are so fun. Koffing and Weezing were NY and LA respectively, and Gyarados had the incredibly metal name of SKULLKRAKEN
Skullkraken is so awesome. I love that!
Amazing video, I love your stubborness
I wonder if one day there will be a crazy pivot to suddenly preferring helix fossil with strong conviction
I could have sworn you can get lickitongue from oak’a aide who is at the fuchsia city side of cycling road looking through the binoculars… am i thinking of the remake?
Ah looks like in red and blue you can trade a slow bro for one, misremembered lol
Dude. This isn’t Jrose channel. There’s a reason we’re all here. Why in the world would you think we WOULDN’T wanna see a fourth run…?😂 It’s what we live for. You’re our favourite channel hahaha
You should do pokemon run using only pikiachu clones (you can't use any of the pikiachu line)
So many you'd have full team
Chandra the Channeler!
Its so funny that lickitung is only available in cerulean cave, yet has a similar bst to an unevolved Pokémon. At least theres marc the in-game trade.
Ive never used this Pokémon or lickilicky
29:25
wonder if body slam would have KO'd there, even resisted, since it looked like the badge boost got reset but swords dance and stab were still there.
kinda crazy how much the layout has changed since this vid which was only 3 months ago.
Curious as to how much more it will change.
You heard it here first. Lickitung's PP is outstanding.
Hey dude, love the content. Would you ever consider mixing it up on the background music side? I am an audio-only listener and would love some diversity if possible!
Thinking about it
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon would love u forever lol
I love lickitung. He’s just a goofy little guy
I ended up getting a shiny Tadbulb from an outbreak while watching, thanks Scott :) He's happily named McDonalds now
Congrats on the shiny!
What a rollercoaster. Loved it
Despite likitungs low speed its the most fair wrapping pokemon in the game. Good game design for gen1.
That back sprite is brilliant.
My brain: Tongue Tied
My heart:Tounge-Et-Ee Dee
This is definitely a ditto, I'm a dittology, I can see features that only a ditto tranform in a licktung would have, like the tongue being 0.0001cm bigger.
i think licktung is probably one of the best designs in my opinion. it actually looks far better than something like wigglypuff or dragonite(not that i dislike dragonite, but it doesnt really fit the dratini and dragonair looks).
and it feels far more natural than something like magnemite or hitmonlee(i mean, its supposedto be a living being, but it has no mouth or nose or anything).
