- As part of our New Zealand hop journey in 2024, we visited Egger's Hops. Eggers Hops are known for growing exceptional hops, specifically Riwaka. In this video, we go behind the scenes, meet with Kem Eggers, and learn about the history of the farm and their very unique, energetic approach to hop growing and the philosophy behind it.

Nelson is a great place for hops, beer and a bloody good hike. Come back again chaps for another pint.
Can someone make a scratch and sniff version of this video please
we did! every can of Tree House!
@treehousebrewco I get it as often as I can but live in South Carolina right now. Going to pop my Vanilla Bean Truth this Saturday though! 🍻
Kem seems like a cool dude and I know he likes good music, love the sweatshirt.
Very cool. Hoping for some epicly nerdy riwaka notes in the follow up video. Riwaka is the coolest and weirdest hop I’ve experienced
Loved this one, its really great to see it from the growers perspective! hope you guys continue to showcase the personalities and viewpoints of all the great people you get to work with, really adds to the channel!
agreed - Kem is an interesting guy and his hops carry the same type of whimsical energy
Cool experience being one of the kiln operators for Eggers this season.
From Oakura and the classroom to the hop kiln in Nelson ...
Count me in!
Can we get your beer in NZ??? Cool to see how far our hops go!
Ha! the lady from Eggers visited us in Oxfordshire only a few weeks back... gave us a few samples and let us in on thier new distro in the UK. they let you pick early/mid/late harvest. They say they make the best Riwaka so looking forward to trialing them.
👍🏻👍🏻
Love the NZ hops. Love the beers even more. Nate, if you're looking for your next ingredient inspiration perhaps consider a visit to Oaxaca Mexico. So many choices here.
I’ve heard that, thanks for the suggestion!
Super cool to see the agricultural direction some of the beer storytelling is going. I think you guys are on to a winner here with focusing on Terroir as a topic of intrigue in your products.
This worked super well for Bruichladdich back is 2004 when they started with the Islay Barley series because the great product came with a great story about people and history of place.
we are so in love with regional hop character. it's a bit selfish of a pursuit and if it resonates, even better!
Afternoon Nate.
Evening Nate.
2021 Riwaka was amazing! Unable to buy any in 2022. But the 2.5kg of 2023 Riwaka I bought is terrible. Sourced through Bintanni so not sure where it came from. But wow, consistency is not Riwakas strong suit.
this is why we grind, and travel. sorry to hear you got some bum riwaka.
Have you ever chewed on one? Would it have a taste that you might find in a finished beer or just bitter?
do. not. recommend!
🤙😁
Hate the NZ hops 🤢
