Bear Butt Bowl! - Wood Turning
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2021
- I saw the image of a bear's butt on this piece and I couldn't un-see it! So, I decided not to turn the outside of this bowl due to that and other beautiful features. I'm really happy with the way this FOG (Found On Ground) Wood turned out and it's become one of my favorite pieces. If you know what kind of wood this is, please tell me in the comments, thanks! Finished in shellac.

Phil is the Bob Ross of wood turning. The absolute best.
I don't see a physical resemblance, but the vibe is definitely there. Chill, joy, and educational all rolled into one, and making art too.
Wow! Thank you, Bigtex! 😊
Hi Phil, You always find a diamond in the rough. Your pieces are made with so much consideration and respect. Just amazing to see.
Thank you kindly 😊
Here is something about the bark that I just love. Beautiful ❤️❤️
Cool, me too, Sandy! 😊
..almost feels like, your finished piece shows the respect and heritage you’re giving the gnarled tree, it once was
That is exactly how I feel and what I'm trying to convey, Wolf. Thanks for noticing! 😊
Less is more. Its great to see you turn less in favor of the natural shape. And again turning pieces that few others would. FOG wood. I love it Phil. Thanks for another great bowl.
I seldom come upon such a great shape to start with, I just love it, Steve! 😊
The Bear is proudly showing off his bottom and exposed to the world for all to see. You had a couple of challenges BUT succeeded. It turned out just stunning. I commend you on all your videos you stress safety first, before you start to turn, the first thing you do is put on your dust mask and make sure your faceshield is on . SAFETY FIRST keep reminding us to be safe while turning. 👍 be safe out there and KEEP ON TURNING
Thank you, Howard! 😁
That's a beauty! Fog is sometimes the prettiest.
😊
You certainly do push your skill to the max. Again you made a piece of fine art from scrap. Well done sir.
Thank you, Kev! 😊
It's called bare-assed nice job on the bark loved your comment this is a wood turning channel not a wood collecting channel the end speaks for itself
Haha, thank you, Rene! 😊
I am told that the resemblance between a skinned bear 🐻 and a man are remarkable. So bear butt bowl is a winner, and the bark reminds me of bear fur. Great job! This one is a definite favorite.
😊
I am a newbie. I just bought a Jet 1840 EVS. Your artistic skills were my inspiration to get started. I am moving away from wooded boat building to go to turning. I literally am going to school on your UA-cam videos. Thank you for being there.
Enjoy, David. That's how I learned to turn, too!
Love the piece!!! Phil's talent creates another master piece.
Thank you, Mary! 😊
Looks like a bear scratching against a tree. Nice stuff.
It does! 😊
I thought it looked like a squirrel butt with the tail down. What ever anyone wants to call it. I call it amazingly beautiful! Thanks for sharing Phil.
❤🙃
Thanks, Dotty! 😊
Oh, Phil! She’s a beauty! 💖
Cool, thank you, Betty! 😊
I could see a couple of dinosaur faces and the elephant man, but there’s just so much to see you could probably stare at it for hours and still keep finding things. It’s another fabulous piece
That's the fun of a piece like this, Tracy! Thank you! 😊
That is a bear butt if I ever saw one! 🐻 Great job of talking through the project as if we were there with you...and we are!!. Thanks
Of course you are! 😄
I'm not a woodworker, but I enjoy watching turning vids, and you're the first I've seen who explains what is done. Thank you.
I'm glad you are taking your time to watch and comment, Paul, thank you! 😊
Another Phil signature piece. Well, not just Phil, mother nature played a big part. i approve of the safety strap - a neat idea - of course it wouldn't prevent the glue from not holding but it would prevent a bit of the bear's butt from hitting you in the face or flying through the shop window! Good of you to include that cos I think we/I can sometimes be a bit reckless or overconfident that a piece will hold. I like the way you harness what nature already provides.
Yeah, that was the purpose, Ray, just to keep the piece together. Luckily, it wasn't needed. Thanks for watching! 😊
I think that's a piece that would put a smile on your face each time you look at it. I agree, bear butt and looks cool. Like it alot.
It does just that, Don! Every time I walk by it, I smile. 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop does it smile back?
@@donlute3444 LOL!
Very cool ! A fist full of features
😊
Beautiful wood and clever turning 👍👍

Your bowls are always so unique and more daring than most!
Thank you, Eldon! 😃
FOG wood is a new one on me. Great turning Phil.
Never stop learning, Jack! Thank you! 😊
I believe that is Butternut. Great videos!!
Thank you! 😊
That bowl is definitely a conversation piece. Depending upon the angle, you can see interesting shapes. Reminds me of a lilac tree but don't quote me on that!
It does look quite a bit like Lilac, Mary. 😊
BigFoot butt. 🐻 HaHa. Have a great week! 🌲💚🌳
LOL! You too, Roma! 😊
Another great peice of art
😊
Surely the changesaw scrape is a mouth and the little branch is the nose with some funny little eyes formed in the folds in the wood? Just me?
Great piece Phil, love the way you are awed by what materialises from the wood... even if it turns out to be a bit of glue you put in there! Not telllin a soul don't you worry.... 🤐😆😁
Not just you, Jude. Several people have mentioned a smile, grin, mouth. Cool, thanks for keeping the secret! 😊
That looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
today i learned what FOG wood is. amazing what i learn here. :D
Glad to hear that, Arla! 😊
Another great bowl
😊
Phil, I must say, you saved much of the bark....it looks Great 👍👌
😊
I see a face where the small branch comes thru. The chainsaw cut is the mouth and the branch is the nose. Another terrific piece. All the best
Cool, thank you, Wile! 😊
I love this piece.
I'm glad, me too, Lois! 😊
Looks like honeysuckle to me. Great job, as always.
😊
Magnificent work Phil. Wonderful result.
Thank you, Robert! 😊
I sure enjoy watching you.
This means more to me than you might know, Bill. Thank you, I really appreciate your time and comment! 😊
I agree with the bear butt, and it looks to me like it is rubbing against a tree… fantastic piece

Beautiful piece, beautifully worked Phil
Glad you enjoyed it, Barry, thank you! 😊
At a loss of words on how much i liked that Bear Butt ! You seem to always make something really nice. Great Job Phil !
Thank you for watching and commenting, Jason! 😊
Can't believe I missed this video Phil. There is a WELL CONSIDERED lack of turning in this delightful piece. This piece of tree screamed out 'don't over work me' & as usual, you 'listened' to the piece of wood & worked it according to what you 'heard' or saw in the piece. It's a case of 'less is more' in this piece, just enough to show the beauty of the wood but not enough to destroy the 'bear but' so clearly evident. In short, 'it is a work of Art'. Well done my friend, I hope you are gaining strength for 2022. Don from South Aust.
This was a fun one to turn, Don. The image was so substantial I just couldn't turn it away. I like it and I'm glad you like it, too! 😊
The bark looked great after sanding! It almost looked like ceramic.
I think so too! 😊
Excellent bowl Phil the Big foots butt ha! ha! Have a great day Phil.
😊
Great work. It’s truly a beautiful piece.

Thank you very much, Ann! 😊
As usual another beautiful piece of art, your pieces are always unique in design. ♥️ 🐻 bear butt bowl
I didn't have much to do with the design of this one, Maddie! Thank you for your great comment! 😊
That wood looks like desert willow which is very common here in Arizona. Beautiful "Bear Butt" bowl.
😊
The presence of mind to leave the unique features of the piece al naturale, and then coax the wood into speaking for itself, was inspired. Way to go, Uncle Phil ❣️👍✌️
Great comment, Dwayne, thank you for that! 😊
Very nice Phil!!!
Thank you, Kandie! 😊
As always sir very nice 👍👌
😊
As always looks great!
😊
Very unique Phil! I really like it. Great video!

😊
I LOVE IT TOO PHIL....
😊
Thank You. From La Pine
😊
Phil Another beauty
😊
The chainsaw cut makes a mouth and the protruding branch a nose, I'd call it that part the Yo Adrian, from the Rocky movie. 😆👍
😊
Another gorgeous piece of art
😊
nice bear
😊
Mr Phil, I shared your channel with my wife, she is totally in love. She had never seen wood turning before, and is totally amazed. Thank you Sir for sharing your talent on some magnificent art pieces. God bless.
Wow, very cool, Norman, thanks to you and your wife! 😊
So unusual Phil I’ve revisited this because I’m learning what you’re about and what you see in a piece good job wow👍
Thank you for that, Jeff! 😃
Beautiful Phil. Looks like holly to me.
Wisteria seems to be the consensus, Doug. 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop that’s sounds reasonable.
Love this piece Phil I’ve posted on Facebook for you💕🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Bear's butts, prickly hedgehogs, you've a right old menagerie going on in your workshop! Another great, creative piece!

Awesome bowl....
I watch many turners on UA-cam and you are the Turner that inspires me the most and I model my style from your work!!
Thank you so much for sharing!!
How nice of you, Timothy, thank you! 😊
Like so many other comments, I, too, look forward to Thursday evening's time with Phil! Of all the turners I watch, you are head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to your love affair with the pieces you turn. Your respect for the intrinsic beauty contained in the wood is really special. This is one of your best Phil+nature pieces. Thanks!
What a thoughtful and kind comment, Greg! Thank you so much!
Truth
I LOVE your channel and your humor. You create absolutely beautiful designs. Please keep it up
Thank you so much, Rocky! I'll do my best! 😊
If you look at where the little chainsaw mark is and imagine that is a mouth, the sub end of stick that is above it is a nose. Cool Bear Butt Bowl Phil!!!
You are right, Bill, several people have mentioned that! Thank you, I'm glad you like it! 😊
Cool piece phil,it's a beauty 😍
Thanks, Mark! 😊
great again buddy
Thanks again! 😊
