    That was a big help! I was so confused when XO wouldn't respond to MIDI while in a drum rack. Now I not only made it work but I even understand drum racks better that I did before. Thanks!!

    What a great way to set up a Multi-Out Drum Rack in Ableton. I was doing it a different way but this is much tidier IMO - cheers!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Hey thanks so much for putting this together! The effects-per-track thing is a lot easier/simpler this way than how I was doing it - I had everything grouped together in 8 separate audio tracks to capture everything.

    awesome. this is exactly what i was looking for, as wanting a quick easy way for more control over the drum patterns so can nudge individual elements like you just would in drum rack.
    seems the one downside to this is that this setup somehow kills the ability to create send/returns for the drum rack so can send some of the signal from each of the pads/sounds to the main sends. or you can create the sends like a normal drum rack, but sound not getting through. (nor can process each of the 8 channels individually). 🤔

    • @1chrisanderson
      @1chrisanderson 9 місяців тому

      Have you found a solution for this yet? I love using the drum rack with my Push 2 but i can't apply any processing to the individual elements while still using XO during the writing phase of a loop.

    • @RokSivante
      @RokSivante 9 місяців тому

      @@1chrisanderson yeah. had to reverse-engineer some stuff now to get it working and explain, but...
      seems like was just an additional step beyond this tutorial: create 8 individual audio tracks for each of the pads, then route the "audio from" corresponding (Monitor setting IN). then you can group everything together "Audio To" the main group so can have that final control over everything as well.
      might be one other way as well - there's a video here by Kaysharpe called "The ULTIMATE Ableton 11 Template For Arranging Drums Quickly" - she created a template where doable, and is selling it for $10; the sales page linked in that video description has a screenshot with a different routing structure than I'm using, though I suppose either would work.

    Great vid thanks man, i just picked up XO and don't know how i lived without it for so long. This is exactly what i wanted to know and you did a great job explaining it. Video quality could be better for less advanced users trying to follow along but thanks for your effort. Any chance on a tutorial on how to assign each drum part from XO to it's own track/lane in the group functionality? I saw someone else with this setup but they did not explain how to do it. Or is it not really worth it in your opinion?

    Thank you for this video !
    Quick question : I am facing a problem with xo : when i export processed samples directly in ableton Drum Rack (with effects applied in xo, for exemple filters or pitch correction), the volume of the exported samples never matches the volume directly heard from XO (from output busses), even with the differents normalization settings. This is very annoying as I usually tweak the sounds and mix them within XO before exporting them. I was wondering if you came across this issue and if you found a way to correct it ?
    Thank you if you take time to answer

    Thanks for the vid, i just downloaded a trial of XO to have a play and this is just what i needed. I tried your way which worked fine, and i saved the rack so all good there although you missed the part where you need to route the bus in XO for the EQ to work (no dramas).
    I just stumbled on a different way which has pro's and con's, by doing the same thing with the drum rack and putting XO in C2 for example, but not doing the external instrument or bus routing and just exporting the midi, then dragging the "processed kit" (or Raw if you prefer) into C1 which fills C1 to G1 with the 8 samples post processing in XO with track name etc all included, this way each post processed sample is loaded into a simpler on each track, and then tweaks in ableton become so much easier in simpler and with effects.
    I wonder if by doing this i am missing something obvious from your method that i will regret later?
    Edit: Found a reason to use your template after a day of playing. Mine was simpler at first but the obvious issue was the need to drag the kits in, which means any tweaking of the sounds in XO or changing of the samples which is what XO is so slick and quick for would mean a need to re-drag the kits in again, however this is still only 1 more step than dragging the midi in which is needed anyway. For me i am torn, both work, i do love the simpler/sampler way of working with my method...but then i also like the ease of use in yours...dang i am seriously over thinking this!

    • @ivangruzdev7250
      @ivangruzdev7250 Рік тому +5

      @@jasoncohendrums I've done it :) in XO plugin you should route tracks (lanes) outputs to buses 1-8 (by default all tracks (lanes) are routed to the MASTER of a plugin itself). in XO there is a section PLAYBACK for all tracks (lanes) and there is a button M on each track (lane) in playback section. click M on any track, then choose "auto-route all outputs", then click "slot 1-8 to bus 1-8". after that ext.instruments in drum rack will recieve a sound from XO buses

    Does anyone know if there's a way to assign a MIDI controller's drum pads to play the sounds in Ableton's drum rack slots? When I try to assign the MIDI controller to the drum rack it looks like it's not an option.

    Is there any benefit to instead adding an external instrument to 8 channels, and routing the XO Midi to each of those? I know you can add effects to each pad of the drum rack, but is that any different than adding it to it's own seperate channel per one shot?
