    Sarah Harmer official bio:
    Sarah Harmer is a multiple award winning, platinum selling singer songwriter and environmental activist. Her solo music career launched with the now classic debut You Were Here (2000) and includes six critically acclaimed albums, including her latest, Are You Gone, released via Arts & Crafts.
    A deeply personal and political collection of songs motivated by the beauty of life, the urgency of the climate crisis, and the question of loss, Sarah called the album a spiritual successor of sorts to her acclaimed 2000 debut. Its simple title, Are You Gone, is a meditation on presence and a bookend to the questions posed on You Were Here a sharpened, more electric confrontation with the realities of nature and human nature.
    Between co-founding the citizen’s organization PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) and leading the successful effort to prevent an open pit gravel mine in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment, Sarah has become a fixture in local politics and advocacy. In 2022, Sarah helped launch the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition in her home province of Ontario to protect water, farmland, and biodiversity. She is currently writing songs for a new album.

    I did see her sing a few times at her parent's farm house north of Burlington. I miss those days and her beautiful voice.

    I just noticed you have a couple of videos from 2022. Could you make a playlist of your Sarah Harmer stuff?Great channel, buddy!

      Yep! I actually did one for the 2022 concert already: ua-cam.com/play/PLwdc0qZNx0tYSWuuMTnLaT-h4hHTZVwml.html. I actually have a couple more songs from that show I never did, plus the dozen or so from the recent show. It's a nice problem to have so many concert videos left to post. But knowing there's interest inspires me to keep posting. 😊

    Sounds good and all but where's the bass player?

      You can see Zach when I zoom out at 3:09 and then again at the very end. I would love to be able to shoot with multiple cameras and then cut in and out of closeups of all the band members, but shooting with just the single camera presents some challenges. It gets a bit dizzying for people if I keep zooming in and out, and I've learned from the video data that people drop off and stop watching if I stay zoomed out for too long.

    What were these recorded on?

      I use a pocket-sized Sony zoom camera called the Sony DSC-HX99. By now the sensor and image processing on it are weaker than most new phones, but it's the 30x optical zoom that still gives it an edge. If I can get the camera steady enough--in this case I was resting it on a railing and trying very hard not to move--then I can get some crisp closeups that a phone can't get. 😊

      @TimBracken I thought it had to be a camera when I saw how far away you were and looked very clear zoomed in.I would like to get a handheld video camera for recording live shows but most of the venues I attend will only allow phones.

      @PROGROCK-tr9hw Yeah, the venues out here are a little more lax. They will allow an "amateur" camera, which they define as one whose lens does not come off. But I've never found such a camera with everything I want: big optical zoom, shoots videos in 4K, and shoots videos in HDR. If you know of one, please let me know. Cheers.

      @TimBracken will do.im just looking into getting some kind of camera. Are you only using the internal microphone, or do you have an external attached?

    • @TimBracken
      @TimBracken  Місяць тому +1

      Sadly this little camera doesn't have one of those shoe mounts to attach an external mic. Though the twin built-in mics are pretty high quality. To a fault, actually, since they pick up lots of other nearby noises, like a squeaky chair, a food wrapper, a cough, people talking. So as long as people are pretty quiet or the music is loud enough to drown out these noises, my videos turn out pretty good in terms of the audio. Good luck with your camera choice!

      Yep! I got about half the show. So far the only other one I posted was "One Match." I'll circle back to this show soon, especially now that I know there's interest. Any songs in particular you're hoping for? P.S. Feel free to subscribe and then UA-cam is more likely to show you when I post it. Cheers.

      Cool, I'll do "Don't Get Your Back Up" next. I love that song and her version here was amazing. By the way, she has an enthusiastic fan base out here, but sadly she's not that well known. This was a small venue and it wasn't sold out. Here's the setlist by the way: www.setlist.fm/setlist/sarah-harmer/2024/the-chapel-san-francisco-ca-2baa90c2.html

      @TimBracken awesome buddy, thanks! It's nice to know her talent is appreciated in the States as well.Seems pretty close to the same set she played when I saw her last. The show I saw she included Almost, Around the Corner and Opened with Pendulums. She played a little longer set then usual around 24 songs.I have most of them recorded but they are only in 1080 p.The sound is really good it being a 300 seat theatre.Shes fantastic live.Vocally spot on to the studio recordings.
